How to knit English Rib

In this DROPS video we show how to knit English rib. This large fluffy rib is identical on both sides. It's great for scarves, blankets etc.

We knit back and forth on needles, using an uneven number of sts.
1st row: 1 edge st in garter, *K1, yo, slip 1 st as if purled*, rep *-*, end with K1, 1 edge st in garter.
2nd row: 1 edge st in garter, *yo, slip 1 st as if purled, K next st and yo tog*, rep *-*, end with yo, slip 1 st as if purled, 1 edge st in garter.
3rd row: 1 edge st in garter, *K next st and yo tog, yo, slip 1 st as if purled *, rep *-*, end with K next st and yo tog, 1 edge st in garter. Repeat row 2 and 3 (This video is showing row 2 and 3).

Hei P Heimdahl. Vil jo mene at det kommer an på hvilken bomullsgarn/kvalitet man strikker med, hvilken oppskrift og overholder man strikkefastheten. Men test ut ved å lage en prøvelapp med det bomulsgarnet du ønsker å bruke, vask det etter vaskeanvisniningen og se hva du syns som resultatet. mvh DROPS Design

Bonjour Valérie, tout dépend du diagramme / du point fantaisie du modèle que vous tricotez, vous avez ici une vidéo standard des côtes anglaises tricotées en allers et retours, mais parfois, entre chaque maille endroit des côtes anglaise (vu sur l'endroit), vous tricoterez soit 1 maille en côtes anglaises (comme ici, le motif est alors réversible), soit 1 ou plusieurs mailles jersey envers/point mousse etc... Suivez ainsi attentivement le diagramme du modèle que vous tricotez, n'hésitez pas à vous entrainer sur un échantillon avant de commencer avec toutes les mailes de votre ouvrage. Bon tricot!

Hei Lovisa. 1 maske + kast = 1 patentmaske. Strikker du et plagg i patent med knappehull vil det stå i selve oppskriften hvordan det strikkes. Som regel vil knappehullet være i en stolpe som ikke er patentstrikket. mvh DROPS Design

Dear Mrs Ford, when we talk about a knitted stitch in a pattern, this should be the stitch that is worked alternately every other round yo, slip as if to P and knit together slipped st and yarn over - most of the time, the yarn over is not counted as a stitch since it belongs to the slipped stitch. Dear Mrs Syed, the yarn overs made over the stitches are most often not counted as stitches as they belong to the slipped stitch. Count them as 1 stitch and check if your number of stitches looks right - please feel free to ask your question on the pattern you are working on, it might be easier to help you. Happy knitting!

How to work 2-coloured English rib with second colour in the edge and colour change

In this DROPS video we show how to work 2-colour English rib in stripes where it works with the second colour on the edge stitches/band stitches and how to twist the strands together when changing colours. The edge stitches/band stitches works in garter stitches. ROW 1 (from RS): Work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch with the second colour, switch to the main colour, but twist the strands together to avoid holes and work English rib to the edge stitches on the other side. Lift the edge stitches over to the right needle, push the stitches back on the circular needle so the next row is also worked from the right side. ROW 2 (from RS): Lift the edge stitches over to the right needle, work English rib with the second colour and work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch, turn. ROW 3 (from WS): Work 5 edge stitches in garter stitch with the second colour, change to the main color, remember to twist the strands to avoid holes and work English rib to the edge stitches on the other side, lift the edge stitches over to the right needle. How to knit row 1 – 8 to the shawl in DROPS 204-3

In this DROPS video we show how to work the 8 first rows in the Burning Leaves shawl in DROPS 204-3 that is knitted with English rib. We have already cast on and purl 1 row, and start the video from the 1st row from the wrong side (WS). We also show how to cast off, where we cast off the yarn overs as normal stitches. We do this to avoid the cast off edge being tight. You will find the written description under the pattern/click on the picture below. How to work English rib in the round with 2 colour

In this DROPS video we show how we work English rib in the round with 2 colour. We have already cast on, worked round 1 with green like this: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 2 together *, work from *-* to end of round. The 2 rounds we shown in the video are round 2 and 3. ROUND 2 with colour Mauve: * Purl the yarn over and the slipped stitch together, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl *, work from *-*. ROUND 3 with colour green: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit yarn over and slipped stitch together *, work from *-* (be careful; the last yarn over does not look like a yarn over, but the strand of colour 2 is at the front of the piece; lay the strand over to make a yarn over).
