DROPS circular needle size 10 mm / US 15 or size needed to obtain the correct knitting gauge
DROPS crochet hook size 5 mm / H/8 (for string)

Knitting gauge: 11 sts x 13 rows on needle size 10 mm / US 15 in stockinette stitch with 2 threads Vivaldi + 1 thread Alpaca = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''

Knitting tips: If your knitting gauge doesn’t match vertically and is too tight, the raglan will be too short and the armhole too small. You may compensate for this by knitting random rounds without dec when dec for raglan.

Garter st, back and forth on needle: Knit all rows

Stripe pattern: The top is knitted in 2 threads Vivaldi + 1 thread Alpaca (3 threads).
Color 1: Vivaldi 03, Vivaldi 15, Alpaca 3620

Color 4: Vivaldi 20, Vivaldi 16, Alpaca 2921
Color 5: Vivaldi 20, Vivaldi 16, Alpaca 2915

Back and front piece:
Knitted back and forth on circular needle from mid front.
Cast on 86-94-102-114-130 sts (incl 3 front band sts each side towards mid front, knitted in garter sts throughout) on circular needle size 10 mm / US 15 with color 1 – see above. Insert a marker 23-25-27-30-34 sts in from each side (= 40-44-48-54-62 sts on back piece). Knit 2 rows garter st – see explanation above, and continue in stockinette st with 3 edge sts each side in garter st.
At the same time work stripe pattern – see explanation above.
When piece measures 5 and 10 cm / 2" abd 4" inc 1 st on both sides of each marker (4 inc per row) = 94-102-110-122-138 sts.
When piece measures 14-15-16-17-18 cm / 5½"-6"-6 1/4"-6 3/4"-7" knit 2 rows garter st on 8 sts each side (= 4 sts on each side of both markers) – knit remaining sts in stockinette st.
On next row bind off the same 8 sts each side for armhole = 36-40-44-50-58 sts on back piece and 21-23-25-28-32 sts on each front piece.
On next row cast on 30-32-34-36-38 new sts for sleeves each side over the bound off sts = 138-150-162-178-198 sts.
Insert a marker in all transitions between body pieces and sleeves = 4 markers.
Work 5-4-3-4-4 rows stockinette st, but on the sleeves knit the first 2 rows in garter st.
At the same time dec 6 sts evenly on the 3rd row on the sleeves = 126-138-150-166-186 sts in total.
Continue in stockinette st with front band sts in garter st as before, at the same time dec for raglan – see Decreasing tip – on every 4th row: 1 st on both sides of each marker (= 8 dec per row) a total of 2-2-2-1-1 times, then on every other row a total of 5-6-7-9-10 times.
At the same time when piece measures 23-25-27-29-31 cm / 9"-9 3/4"-10 5/8"-11 3/8"-12 1/4" put 6 sts each side towards mid front on a thread or a stitch holder for neck and dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 1 time.
After all dec for raglan and neck are complete = 46-50-54-62-74 sts left on needle.
Pick up approx 15 sts on each neckline at front (incl sts on thread or stitch holder).
Knit 4 rows garter sts with color 5, at the same time adjusting no of sts on first row to 70-73-76-80-84.
Bind off, piece measures approx 34-36-38-40-42 cm / 13½"-14 1/4"-15"-15 3/4"-16½" up to the shoulder.

Crochet string:
Crochet a ch-string measuring approx 120 to 140 cm / 47"-55" on crochet hook size 5 mm / H/8 with color 5. Pull string through neckline below the border in garter sts.
Make a tassel for each end of the string as follows: Cut 24 threads of color 5 measuring 20 cm / 8'' each. Fold them double and sew the ch-string round the bend and tie one of the threads round the top of tassel to keep it together. Cut and sew thread.
