------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. STRIPES: Work with 1 strand DROPS Air and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk as follows: 2-2-2-2-2-2 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾" with color off white. 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾" with color pearl grey. Repeat these stripes as far as the rib, then finish with 1 strand Air, color pearl grey and 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk, color pearl grey. STRIPE-TIP: For a neat transition between the rounds when working stripes: Change to the new color and work 1 round. Then work the first stitch on the next round as follows: Place the first stitch from the previous round on the needle and knit it together with the first stitch on this round. GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows (from both the right and wrong side). 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. I-CORD: FIRST 2 STITCHES: Worked on all rows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise, with strand in front, knit 1. LAST 2 STITCHES: Worked on all rows: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, with strand in front, knit 1. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread is in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked top down in the round with circular needle, from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is continued in the round while the sleeves wait, then divided for the split in each side and the front and back pieces finished separately, back and forth. The sleeves are worked top down in the round. The neck is folded double and sewn down to finish. NECK: Cast on 66-70-72-76-78-82 stitches with circular needle size 8 MM = US 11, 1 strand DROPS Air color pearl grey and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk color pearl grey (= 2 strands). Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 11 cm = 4⅜". The neck is later folded double to give a neck of approx. 5 cm = 2". The beginning of the round is on the back right shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 22-23-24-25-26-27 stitches (= approx. mid-front), the piece is measured from this marker. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 8 MM = US 11. Knit 1 round and decrease 0-1-0-1-0-1 stitch = 66-69-72-75-78-81 stitches. Work stockinette stitch in the round. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. When the yoke measures 2-2-2-2-2-2 cm = ¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾"-¾" from the marker, work and increase using PATTERN A.1, which is repeated 22-23-24-25-26-27 times on the round = 88-92-96-100-104-108 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch until the yoke measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾" from the marker. Now work STRIPES, read description above, AT THE SAME TIME as working A.2, 22-23-24-25-26-27 times on the round = 110-115-120-125-130-135 stitches – read STRIPE-TIP in explanations above. Continue with stockinette stitch and stripes until the yoke measures 10-10-10-11-12-12 cm = 4"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾" from the marker. Work A.3, 22-23-24-25-26-27 times on the round = 132-138-144-150-156-162 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and stripes until the yoke measures 14-14-15-16-17-18 cm = 5½"-5½"-6"-6¼"-6¾"-7" from the marker. Work A.4, 22-23-24-25-26-27 times on the round = 154-161-168-175-182-189 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and stripes until the yoke measures 18-18-20-21-23-24 cm = 7"-7"-8"-8¼"-9"-9½" from the marker. Work A.5, 22-23-24-25-26-27 times on the round = 176-184-192-200-208-216 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and stripes until the yoke measures 20-21-23-24-26-28 cm = 8"-8¼"-9"-9½"-10¼"-11" from the marker. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While working the stitches, divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Knit and place the first 34-36-38-38-38-38 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-10-12-14 stitches (= in side mid-under the sleeve), knit 54-56-58-62-66-70 (= front piece), knit and place the next 34-36-38-38-38-38 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-10-12-14 stitches (= in side mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 54-56-58-62-66-70 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 116-124-132-144-156-168 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in each side of the body, in the middle of the 4-6-8-10-12-14 cast-on stitches under each sleeve; allow the threads to follow your work onwards – they are used when working the split in each side. Work to the first marker-thread; the round starts here. Continue in the round with stockinette stitch and stripes until the piece measures 42-44-46-47-49-51 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-18½"-19¼"-20" from the marker – working the last round as follows: Start 2 stitches before the beginning of the round (= side of body), place the next 2 stitches on a cable needle behind the piece, knit the next 2 stitches, place the marker-thread on the needle, knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle, work to 2 stitches before the second marker-thread, place the next 2 stitches on a cable needle in front of the piece, knit the next 2 stitches, place the marker-thread on the needle, knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle, work to end of round. Now divide for the split in each side, dividing at each marker-thread; place the back-piece stitches on a stitch holder and work the front piece. FRONT PIECE: = 58-62-66-72-78-84 stitches. Start working rib back and forth as follows, starting from the right side. AT THE SAME TIME, increase 35-35-39-41-45-49 stitches evenly on the first row = 93-97-105-113-123-133 stitches: Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8, work 2 stitches in I-CORD – read description above, then 2 GARTER STITCHES – read description above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase), until there are 5 stitches left, knit 1, work 2 garter stitches and 2 stitches in I-cord. When the rib measures 7-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2¾"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛", bind off a little loosely. The sweater measures 49-51-53-55-57-59 cm = 19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼" from the marker and approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the top of the shoulder. BACK PIECE: Work in the same way as the front piece. SLEEVES: Place the 34-36-38-38-38-38 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 8 MM = US 11 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-8-10-12-14 cast-on stitches under the sleeve = 38-42-46-48-50-52 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 4-6-8-10-12-14 new stitches under the sleeve – start at the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch and continue the stripes in the round – AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 3-3-3-2-4-3 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-¾"-1½"-1⅛" from the division, decrease under the sleeve as follows– read DECREASE TIP: Decrease 2 stitches every 10-6-4-4-3-3 cm = 4"-2⅜"-1½"-1½"-1⅛"-1⅛" a total of 4-6-8-8-9-9 times = 30-30-30-32-32-34 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-36-35-33-32-30 cm = 14½"-14¼"-13¾"-13"-12½"-11¾" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 5 MM = US 8 and work rib (knit 1, purl 1). AT THE SAME TIME, increase 18-18-18-18-18-20 stitches evenly on the first round = 48-48-48-50-50-54 stitches. When the rib measures 7-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2¾"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛" bind off a little loosely. The sleeve measures approx. 46-46-46-46-44-42 cm = 18"-18"-18"-18"-17¼"-16½". ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
