---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Choose diagram for desired size (applies to A.1 and A.2). Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 105 stitches), minus bands (e.g. 14 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 15) = 6.1. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 6th stitch (do not increase over bands). On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows: Work until 7 stitches remain on row, work 5 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 5-5-6-6-6-6 buttonholes, approx. 9½-10-9-9-9½-9½ cm apart. Place bottom buttonhole in the transition between stocking stitch and rib. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Fold the neck edge double against the wrong side and fasten. NECK EDGE: Cast on 93-97-101-105-109-111 stitches on circular needle size 5 mm with DROPS Nepal. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm (cast on on a larger needle to get an elastic cast-on edge). Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH in each side - read explanation above. Work until neck edge measures 4½-4½-5-5-5½-5½ cm and next row is worked from right side (= approx. height of neck edge when it is folded double). At the end of each of the next 2 rows cast on 6 stitches for band = 105-109-113-117-121-123 stitches on needle. Work next row as follows from right side: Work 7 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above - * knit 2 stitches together, make 1 yarn over *, work from *-* until 8 stitches remain, knit 1 and 7 stitches band with I-cord (= folding edge). Then work in stocking stitch and band as before until neck edge measures 10-10-11-11-12-12 cm from cast-on edge - finish with a row from wrong side. Insert a maker on the inside of band in one side of piece, measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 mm and work first row from the right side starting from mid front as follows: Work band as before, work 91-95-99-103-107-109 stitches in stocking stitch while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 15-19-21-23-25-27 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work band as before - remember BUTTONHOLES – read explanation above = 120-128-134-140-146-150 stitches on needle. Then work in stocking stitch and band. Remember to follow the knitting tension! When yoke measures 2-2-3-3-3-3 cm from marker, increase 18-24-26-32-34-38 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase over bands) = 138-152-160-172-180-188 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and bands. When yoke measures 4-5-6-6-6-7 cm from marker, increase 18-24-26-34-36-38 stitches evenly = 156-176-186-206-216-226 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side with bands as before. On next row work PATTERN – see explanation above, i.e. work next row as follows from right side: Work band as before, work A.1 14-16-17-19-20-21 times in total along yoke, work A.2, work band as before. AT THE SAME TIME on every row marked with arrow in A.1 increase stitches evenly as explained below - remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase over bands): Arrow-1: Increase 30-30-34-34-40-44 stitches evenly = 186-206-220-240-256-270 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 30-30-36-36-40-46 stitches evenly = 216-236-256-276-296-316 stitches. Until arrow 3 work as shown in diagram = 257-281-305-329-353-377 stitches on needle before arrow 3. Arrow-3: Increase 10-9-4-11-3-7 stitches evenly = 267-290-309-340-356-384 stitches. When A.1 and A.2 have been worked, yoke measures approx. 20-21-22-22-25-26 cm from marker. Now divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows from right side: Work band as before, work 40-44-47-50-54-59 stitches in stocking stitch (= front piece), slip the next 46-50-54-62-62-66 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 81-88-93-102-110-120 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 46-50-54-62-62-66 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 40-44-47-50-54-59 stitches in stocking stitch and band as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 191-206-221-236-256-276 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side with bands as before. Then work pattern, i.e. work next row as follows from right side: Work band as before, work A.3 35-38-41-44-48-52 times in total, work A.4 and band as before. When A.3 and A.4 have been worked vertically, work in stocking stitch and band as before until piece measures 49-51-52-53-55-57 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side begin rib while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 32-33-38-39-43-47 stitches evenly on row (do not increase over bands) = 223-239-259-275-299-323 stitches, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm, work band as before, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1 - remember increase) until 8 stitches remain, knit 1 and band as before. When rib measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm cast off. Jacket measures 53-55-56-58-60-62 cm from marker mid front and approx. 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 46-50-54-62-62-66 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under sleeve = 54-58-64-72-74-78 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread, and insert 1 marker mid on top of sleeve (between 2 stitches). Marker thread mid under sleeve is used when decreasing under sleeve and marker mid on top of sleeve should be used to count where to begin pattern. Now work pattern while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing mid under sleeve – so read PATTERN and DECREASE before continuing. PATTERN: Remember decrease below before continuing. Begin round at the marker thread mid under sleeve and continue pattern from yoke, i.e. work 2 rounds in stocking stitch, then work A.3 around sleeve - A.3 will not fit mid under sleeve but count outwards from the middle of sleeve where pattern should begin. Marker mid on top of sleeve should fit with arrow in A.3. Work pattern as far as possible towards mid under sleeve, knit or purl the remaining stitches under sleeve to fit the pattern. When A.3 has been worked vertically, continue in stocking stitch. DECREASE: When sleeve measures 1 cm from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 1-2-2-3-3-4 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-2-1½-1½-1½ cm 3-3-5-7-8-8 times in total = 46-48-50-52-52-54 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 40-40-40-39-37-37 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 8-8-8-8-10-10 stitches evenly on 1st round = 54-56-58-60-62-64 stitches. When rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm cast off. Sleeve measures approx. 46-46-46-46-44-44 cm from division. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck edge down on the inside of garment. Fasten neck edge to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. Sew opening towards mid front together on bands with neat little stitches. Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
