How to cast off elastic – 3 different ways

In this DROPS video we show 3 ways to cast off elastic.

1)
Knit 2. * Insert left needle into the 2 stitches on right needle.
Use the right needle and knit the stitches twisted together. Knit 1 stitch* = 2 stitches on needle. Repeat * - *.

2)
* Insert the needle through the 1st stitch and pick up the 2nd stitch and knit. Slip both stitches from left needle. Place the stitch on the right needle over the left needle *.
Repeat * - *.

3)
* Insert the needle through the first 2 stitches from right to left.
Then insert the needle through the 1st stitch from left to right, slip stitch from the needle *. Repeat *-*.

How to do an Italian cast off with Knit 1 and Purl 1

In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian cast off to a rib with knit 1 / purl 1 by sewing the cast off edge with needle and thread. With this technique we get an elastic cast off that is perfect for example on toe up socks, edge around neck, a shawl edge or sleeve edges when working top down. Cut yarn long enough for your cast off, approx 3-4 times the length of the edge you are casting off. Part 1: Start from the right side (the first stitch should be a knit stitch). Insert the needle into the 1st stitch as if to knit, lift the stitch off the needle, insert the needle into the 2nd stitch on the left needle (= knit stitch) as if to purl. Pull the thread through these 2 stitches (= 1 stitch cast off). Part 2: Insert the needle into the 1st stitch (purl stitch) as if to purl and lift the stitch off the needle, then insert the needle from the back side between the 1st and 2nd stitches and insert the needle through the 2nd stitch (purl stitch) as if to knit, pull the thread completely through the 2 stitches. Italian cast off – Knit 2 / Purl 2

In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian cast off in a piece work with Knit 2 Purl 2. Before starting the cast off, work 1 round where 2 knit - 2 purl becomes 1 knit - 1 purl. Cut yarn long enough for your cast off, approx 4 times the length of the edge you are casting off. 1) Insert the needle into the 1st stitch (knit stitch) as if to knit and slip the stitch of needle. 2) Insert needle into 2nd stitch (knit stitch) as if to purl. 3) Insert needle into 1st stitch (purl stitch) as if to purl, lift the stitch off (the thread is now at the back of the work). From the back, insert the needle between 1st and 2nd stitches. 4) From the front, insert the needle into the purl stitch (2nd stitch). Repeat from the beginning. How to cast off with an i-cord edge in garter stitch

In this DROPS video we show how we cast off with an i-cord edge in a piece worked in garter stitches / ridge stitches. Cast on 2 stitches, knit up 1 stitch in the outermost loop of the bottom ridge = 3 stitches on the needle. *Push the stitches back to the beginning of the needle and work again from the right side without turning. Knit 2, slip the next stitch as if to knit, knit up a new stitch in the next ridge on the hood, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted-up stitch *, work from *-* until an edge has been worked. Knit up 1 stitch in each ridge, if this makes the edge tight, knit up 1 more stitch evenly (we have knitted 2 extra stitches in this piece). Knit together the last 3 stitches on the row. How to work a diagonal shoulder and how to work an i-cord cast off

In this DROPS video we show a technique how to get a diagonal shoulder with short rows. Then we show how to cast off the shoulder seam with an i-cord. How to show a puff sleeve flap and assembly

In this DROPS video we show how to cast off stitches for the "flap" to a puff sleeve. We only work ½ the part of a yoke and we start the video by showing how we cast off stitches on top of the middle of the shoulder which is to become a «flap». Then we show how to cast on new stitches "under" the flap. We also put some markers in the work where it is to be increased later (read in the pattern how to increase it). When the body and sleeves have finished, baste a strand up and down through cast-on edge at the top on sleeve. Wrinkle the sleeve cap so that it fits in a straight line to the opening where stitches were cast off on shoulder. In the video, we fold in the cast on edge a bit and fasten it with needles before sewing it in a straight line on the top of the sleeve. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in video. How to cast off with picot

In this DROPS video we show to increase and at the same time cast off to a picot. We have already worked a rib ((knit 1 twisted/purl 1) and start the video with casting off like this: Knit 1 twisted, * insert right needle between the first 2 stitches on left needle, make 1 yarn over on right needle, pull yarn over forward between the stitches and slip yarn over on to left needle *, work from *-* 2 times in total, knit and cast off at the same time off 5 stitches (= 1st stitch on right needle + 2 yarn overs+ 2 stitches). Continue to work from *-* and cast off 5 stitches the same way along the entire cast-off edge until there are no stitches left to make a new picot. Cast off the remaining stitches.
