Pattern: See diagram M.1, M.2 and M.3. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side. Garter st, in the round: K 1 round, P 1 round. Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows. Decreasing tip-1 (applies to neckline): All dec done from RS. Dec as follows before/after 11 sts: P2 tog. Decreasing tip-2 (applies to armhole): All dec done from RS. Dec as follows before/after 4 garter sts: P2 tog. Top: Worked in the round. Cast on140-160-180-200-220 sts on circular needle size 5 mm [US 8]. K 1 row and continue in M.1 on all sts (7-8-9-10-11 horizontal repeats). Work 3 vertical repeats of M.1, and then work 1 vertical repeat of M.2. Remember the knitting gauge. Now repeat the last 4 rows of M.2 until piece measures 25-26-27-28-29 cm [9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜"]. Work M.3. When piece measures 35-36-37-38-39 cm [13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼"] work next 4 round as follows: 9 garter sts – see above, K3 (over K3 from previous round), 17 garter sts, K3 (over K3 from previous round) 108-128-148-168-188 garter sts. Work next round as follows: 9 garter sts, K3, 8 garter sts, bind off 1 st (= mid front), 8 garter sts, K3 and 108-128-148-168-188 garter sts = 139-159-179-199-219 sts. Now cut the thread. Insert 2 Marking Threads (MT) 34-39-44-49-54 sts in from mid front (to mark the sides, back piece = 71-81-91-101-111 sts). Now work piece back and forth on needle from mid front as follows: 8 garter sts, 3 stockinette sts, 117-137-157-177-197 sts in reverse stockinette st, 3 stockinette sts and finish row with 8 garter sts. At the same time inc 1 st on each side of both MT on every 3 cm [1⅛"] a total of 3 times = 151-171-191-211-231 sts. P inc sts. At the same time when piece measures 41-42-43-44-45 cm [16⅛"-16½"-17"-17¼"-17¾"] dec to shape the neckline each side towards mid front– see Decreasing tip-1: 1 st on every 6th row a total of 8-9-9-10-10 times. At the same time when piece measures 46-47-48-49-50 cm [18"-18½"-19"-19¼"-19¾"] work 2 rows garter st on 7-7-7-8-8 sts each side of both MT (= total 14-14-14-16-16 garter sts), work remaining sts as before. On next row bind off 3-3-3-4-4 sts on each side of both MT = 6-6-6-8-8 sts bound off for armhole, and now complete each piece separately. Back piece: = 71-81-91-99-109 sts. Continue in reverse stockinette st with 4 garter sts each side. Now dec to shape the armhole each side on every other row – see Decreasing tip-2: 1 st 4-8-12-15-20 times = 63-65-67-69-69 sts. Continue until piece measures 62-64-66-68-70 cm [24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½"] and work 4 rows garter st on the middle 35-37-37-39-39 sts, work remaining sts as before. Now bind off the middle17-19-19-21-21 sts for neck and dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 22-22-23-23-23 sts left on each shoulder. Continue with 8 garter sts towards neckline and 4 garter sts towards armhole and bind off loosely when piece measures 66-68-70-72-74 cm [26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛""]. Right front piece: Continue with 4 garter sts towards armhole. Continue dec for neckline. At the same time dec for armhole as described for back piece. After all dec are complete there are 22-22-23-23-23 sts left on shoulder. Bind off loosely when piece measures 66-68-70-72-74 cm [26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛""]. Left front piece: Like right front piece, but mirrored. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. |
