---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- KNITTING TIP: When working short row there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. INCREASE TIP: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from RIGHT SIDE (= new stitch is twisted towards the left): Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and knit stitch in back loop of stitch. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from RIGHT SIDE (= new stitch is twisted towards the right): Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in front loop of stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. First work piece back and forth on circular. Begin by casting on stitches at the top of front piece. Then work front piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME working short rows to form a slightly diagonal shoulder. Then work down to armholes. Now put front piece aside and work the back piece. Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder from front piece, cast on stitches for neck and then pick up stitches along the other shoulder from front piece. Work back piece downwards while AT THE SAME TIME working short rows to form a slightly diagonal shoulder. Work down to armholes - work back piece somewhat longer than front piece. Now slip back piece and front piece on to same circular needle and work body downwards in the round on circular needle. Pick up stitches for sleeves around the armholes and work sleeves downwards. First work back and forth with short rows to form a sleeve cap, then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. FRONT PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 77-81-87-93-101-107-113 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 with DROPS Bomull-Lin. Insert 1 marker in the side. Now measure piece from here! Work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl 15-16-19-21-24-26-28, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) over the next 46-48-48-50-52-54-56 stitches, knit 1 and purl 15-16-19-21-24-26-28. ROW 2 (= right side): Purl 15-16-19-21-24-26-28, work rib (purl 1, knit 1) over the next 46-48-48-50-52-54-56 stitches, purl 1 and knit 15-16-19-21-24-26-28. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Purl 15-16-19-21-24-26-28, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) over the next 46-48-48-50-52-54-56 stitches, knit 1 and purl 15-16-19-21-24-26-28. The neck edge is now done. Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and work in stockinette stitch over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME working short rows as explained below. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! Work until piece measures 3 cm = 1⅛" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 16-16-16-20-20-24-24 stitches remain on row, turn piece and read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 16-16-16-20-20-24-24 stitches remain on row, turn piece. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches until piece measures 7 cm = 2¾" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 stitches remain on row, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 stitches remain on row, turn piece. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches until piece measures 11 cm = 4⅜" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 8-8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches remain on row, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 8-8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches remain on row, turn piece. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches until piece measures 15 cm = 6" from marker, now work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 4-4-4-5-5-6-6 stitches remain on row, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 4-4-4-5-5-6-6 stitches remain on row, turn piece. The short rows are now done, piece measures approx. 16 cm = 6¼" from marker (and approx. 20 cm = 8" from cast-on edge mid front), front piece now has a slightly diagonal shoulder in each side. Work in stockinette back and forth over all stitches until piece measures (16-16-16-17-18-17-16 cm = 6¼"-6¼"-6¼"-6¾"-7"-6¾"-6¼" from marker. Now increase in each side for armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 1-3-3-3-3-5-7 times in total (= 2-6-6-6-6-10-14 rows have been worked) = 79-87-93-99-107-117-127 stitches on needle. Work until piece measures 17-19-19-20-21-22-23 cm = 6¾"-7½"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9", measured from marker along armhole, finish with a row from wrong side. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, and work back piece as explained below. BACK PIECE: Place front piece flat with right side up, place front piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, right side of piece = left shoulder on front piece/back piece when garment is worn. Now pick up stitches along diagonal shoulder on front piece in right side of piece - begin from right side at the armhole and pick up stitches in towards the neck with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every stitch inside cast-on edge until there are 17-18-21-23-26-28-30 stitches on needle (the last 2 stitches = the outermost 2 stitch with rib from front piece), do not cut the yarn but cast on 43-45-45-47-49-51-53 stitches at the end of needle for neck, skip 43-45-45-47-49-51-53 stitches on front piece and pick up 1 stitch in each of the last 17-18-21-23-26-28-30 stitches along the diagonal shoulder on front piece in the left side of piece (the first 2 stitches = the outermost 2 stitches with rib in the other side of front piece) = 77-81-87-93-101-107-113 stitches on needle. Insert 1 marker in the side - all length measurements on back piece are done from this marker. Work until piece measures 9 cm = 3½" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 16-16-16-20-20-24-24 stitches remain on row, turn piece and read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 16-16-16-20-20-24-24 stitches remain on row, turn piece. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches until piece measures 13 cm = 5⅛" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 stitches remain on row, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 stitches remain on row, turn piece. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches until piece measures 17 cm = 6¾" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 8-8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches remain on row, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 8-8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches remain on row, turn piece. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over all stitches until piece measures 21 cm = 8¼" from marker, work 2 short rows as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 4-4-4-5-5-6-6 stitches remain on row, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 4-4-4-5-5-6-6 stitches remain on row, turn piece. The short rows are now done, piece measures approx. 22 cm = 8¾" from marker (and approx. 26 cm = 10¼" from cast-on edge mid back), back piece now has a slightly diagonal shoulder in each side. Work in stockinette back and forth over all stitches until piece measures (22-22-22-23-24-23-22 cm = 8¾"-8¾"-8¾"-9"-9½"-9"-8¾" from marker. Work until piece measures 23-25-25-26-27-28-29 cm = 9"-9¾"-9¾"-10¼"-10⅝"-11"-11⅜", measured from marker along armhole, finish with a row from wrong side. Now put front piece and back piece together for body as explained below. BODY: Work the 79-87-93-99-107-117-127 stitches from back piece, cast on 2-2-2-4-4-4-4 new stitches at the end of this row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work the 79-87-93-99-107-117-127 stitches from front piece and cast on 2-2-2-4-4-4-4 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) = 162-178-190-206-222-242-262 stitches on needle. Then work in the round on needle. Work stockinette stitch until piece measures 25-25-27-28-28-29-30 cm = 9¾"-9¾"-10⅝"-11"-11"-11⅜"-11¾" from where piece was put together (piece measures approx. 49-51-53-55-54-58-60 cm = 19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-21¼"-22¾"-23⅝" from at the top of shoulder when garment is flat, 3 cm = 1⅛" from back piece is over on to front piece so that pick up edge is placed 3 cm = 1⅛" over front piece). Switch to circular needles size 3.5 MM = US 4, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 30-30-34-34-38-42-46 stitches evenly on 1st round = 192-208-224-240-260-284-308 stitches. When rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sweater measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Sleeve is worked from the armhole and down. Place piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of armhole = mid on top shoulder- NOTE! Mid on top shoulder is not the same place as stitches were picked up for back piece but a few cm = about an inch down on back piece. Use circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and tightly pick up stitches (use a thinner needle if needed). PICK UP STITCHES AS FOLLOWS: Begin in the middle of the new stitches cast on under sleeve - pick up 66-74-74-78-82-84-88 stitches – adjust to pick up same number of stitches on each side of marker. SLEEVE CAP: To get a better shape work stockinette stitch with short rows back and forth over sleeve cap, begin round mid under sleeve as and work follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work 7-7-7-7-8-8-8 stitches past marker on top of shoulder, turn piece – remember KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 7-7-7-7-8-8-8 stitches past marker, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Work 5-5-5-4-4-4-4 stitches past where the previous turn was, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work 5-5-5-4-4-4-4 stitches past where the previous turn was, turn piece. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4. Work until 8-8-10-10-12-14-16 turns have been done in total (= 4-4-5-5-6-7-8 times in each side and last row is worked from wrong side). AFTER LAST TURN: The last time 4th row is worked finish row by turning piece, then work from right side until beginning of round (= mid under sleeve). Insert 1 marker thread mid under sleeve, marker thread is used when decreasing stitches under sleeve. Move marker thread upwards when working. Now work in the round in stockinette stitch over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing under sleeve, read DECREASE TIP and decrease like this: When 1 round has been worked, decrease 2 stitches 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches 6-8-8-8-8-7-8 times every 3-2-2-1½-1½-2-1½ cm = 1⅛"-¾"-¾"-½"-½"-¾"-½" = 48-52-52-54-58-62-64 stitches on row. Work until sleeve measures 45-45-45-45-44-44-44 cm = 17¾"-17¾"-17¾"-17¾"-17¼"-17¼"-17¼" from mid on top shoulder. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 8-8-8-10-10-10-12 stitches evenly on 1st round = 56-60-60-64-68-72-76 stitches. When rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 48 cm = 19" from mid on top of shoulder in all sizes. |
