Hi, this is a beautiful pattern, I've been trying to do the math of the pattern in my head after reading through the comments below. From my understanding, to dec on both sides takes 2 rows (so for example: dec 4 dc, size S = 6 rows in total). But with that, there would be a total of 38 rows of dec yet the chart only shows 25 rows. What am doing wrong?
03.04.2015 - 04:32DROPS Design answered:
Dear Kathy, you decrease at the beg and at the end of every row, ie to dec 4dc, work as stated under crocheting tip, (skip first 4 dc at beg of row ...) and at the end of same row, turn when 4 dc remain before the end of row = you have decreased 4 dc each side on the same row. Happy crocheting!

Thanks for you reply but I need further clarification. I'm crocheting size small, have completed the 145 dc's. According to the instructions I'm supposed to start decreasing on both sides on every row, meaning that I have to start decreasing 4 dc's at the beginning of the row by chaining 6 and starting working on the 5th chain, how do I decrease the 4 dc's at the end of the same row? If I do what you suggest in your answer I'll be only decreasing 4 dc's at only one end of the row.
24.03.2015 - 21:38DROPS Design answered:
Dear Maria, (answer edited) to dec 4 dc work 1 row as stated: turn at the end of row, ch 6, skip 4 dc and work in 5th dc on row and work remaining sts on row until 4 sts remain (= you have decreased 4 dc each side), turn and work next decrease. Repeat how many times required in pattern (and continue same way (see crocheting tip) when dec 3 dc and 2 dc each side. Happy crocheting!

Beautiful pattern but need help to continue working on it. Would you please clarify the decreasing (dec) instructions. The pattern calls for dec on both sides of every row, but the directions under Crocheting tip refer only to the end of the row. The same doesn't work for the beginning of the row. Thanking you in advance, María

Dear Maria, (answer edited) when you have worked the row with dec at the end of the first row, turn work when the number of sts remain before end of row. Happy crocheting!

Bon crochet !

Crochet gauge: 20 tr x 11 rows on hook size 3 MM = US 2.5 = 10 x 10 cm = 4" x 4". Remember that hook size is only a suggestion.
PATTERN: See diagram. The entire diagram is worked in all sizes.
Crochet tip: Crocheting tip: When dec 4 sc: at the beginning of row, ch 6, skip the first 4 dc on row and start working in 5th tr on row, work until 4 dc remain, turn. When dec 3 sc: at the beginning of row, ch , skip the first 3 dc on row and start working in 4th tr on row, work until 3 dc remain, turn. When dec 2 sc: at the beginning of row, ch 4, skip the first 2 dc on row and start working in 3rd dc on row, work until 2 dc remain, turn. Body: Work a ch-row of 173-186-199-213 sts on hook size 3 MM = US 2.5 with beige brown. On next row work tr over ch-row as follows: Crochet 1 dc in the 4th chain from hook (= 1st tr replaced by 3 chains), crochet 1 tr in the next chain, * skip 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3 ch *, repeat from *-* (i.e. work 3 dc over 4 ch) until 0-1-2-0 chains remain, work 1 dc in each of the last 0-1-2-0 chains = 129-139-149-159 tr. Remember crochet gauge - it is important not to work too loose on a fitted and small garment as this. Then work dc over all sts while at the same time inc on both sides on every row: 1 dc in each side 8-9-10-11 times = 145-157-169-181 tr. Now piece measures approx. 7-8-9-10 cm = 2¾"-3⅛"-3½"-4". Then dec in both sides on every row - see Crochet tip - at the same time beg diagram - make sure that diagram is in the middle of piece - over the middle 55 dc. Dec in each side as follows: 4 dc 2-3-6-8 times, 3 tr 3-7-7-7 times, 2 dc 14-9-6-5 times, now finish piece according to diagram. After diagram piece measures approx. 30-31-32-34 cm = 11¾"-12¼"-12½"-13⅜". Assembly: Work on hook size 3 MM = US 2.5 with beige brown 1 buttonhole loop at the top on each side on the back as follows: 1 sc, 2 ch, skip ½ cm =⅛", 1 sc. Try the top on to find out where buttons should be - 1 button on the underside of left back piece and 1 button on the over side of right back piece. Work 3 ch-string of approx. 100 cm = 39⅜" each. Plait these tog, tie a knit in each end and thread string in the upper eyelet row. |
