Hi, I used Merino extra fine to knit a hat with cables for my husband (not this pattern) and after a few wears it has stretched a lot and got very baggy. Should I have used a different yarn for a tight fitting hat?

Dear Anna, Merino is a soft quality that has to be worked with rather a tight tension than too lose. All informations are available on the shademap. Happy knitting!

Takk aftur fyrir Hulda

For the shoulder wrap it says to cast on and knit in the round. It doesn't say to join it. Not front picture to see. I would assume you don't join it but in the hart pattern is says the same. Cast on and knit in round. No mention of joining the round, so I'd like to know if you join the rounds for the shoulder wrap or is it knit back and forth? thanks
14.02.2013 - 06:38DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Soroka, you are correct, shoulder warmer is worked in the round, cast on sts and join the round to continue in the round from the beginning. Happy Knititng !

Magnifique !
Bon tricot !

PATTERN: See diagrams A-1 for hat and A-2 for shoulder warmer. Diagrams show 1 repetition of pattern. ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT: Worked in the round from bottom up. Cast on 106 sts on circular needle size 3 mm/US 2.5 with Merino. K 1 round, continue in rib = K 1/P 1 for 8 rounds. Then K 1 round while at the same time inc 14 sts evenly = 120 sts. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm/US 6 and continue with diagram A-1 (= 6 repetitions on the round). REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When A-1 has been worked, 36 sts remain on needle. Work 1 round where all sts are K2 tog around, cut the thread, pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog. The hat measures approx. 22 cm/8¾" vertically. ---------------------------------------------------------- SHOULDER WARMER: Worked in the round from bottom up. LOOSELY cast on 225 sts on circular needle size 4 mm/US 6 with Merino. Work diagram A.2 (= 9 repetitions on the round). REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When A-2 has been worked, there are 99 sts on needle. Switch to circular needle size 3 mm /US 2.5 - K 1 round while at the same time inc 21 sts evenly = 120 sts. Continue with rib = K 1/P 1 for 7 rounds, then bind off with K over K and P over P. Shoulder warmer measures approx. 35 cm/13¾" vertically. |
