Work stripes as follows: * Beige mix, dark blue/purple mix, medium purple, purple/violet mix, blue violet, beige mix, light beige mix, medium purple, blue violet, dark blue/purple mix, beige mix, light beige mix, medium purple *, repeat from *-* until finished measurements. -------------------------------------------------------- BAG: Worked back and forth on needle. Work shortened rows in stockinette st - See KNITTING TIP: * Work 15 sts, turn and work 15 sts, work 25 sts, turn and work 25 sts, work 2 rows on all sts, repeat from first *, change color - SEE STRIPE PATTERN! *, repeat from *-* until piece measures 210 cm / 83" where widest, and then bind off with P sts from WS on the last row of a full stripe. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! Piece now measures approx 70 cm / 27½", where it’s most narrow. ASSEMBLY: Sew cast on and bind off rows tog in outer loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam. Sew the bottom tog in outer loops of sts. SHOULDER STRAP: Pick up 9 sts with dark blue/purple mix on needle size 9 mm / US 13 at the side on top of bag. Work stockinette st back and forth on needle for approx 110 cm / 43½", bind off and sew the strap to the opposite side of bag. FELTING: Place the bag in the washing machine with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach. Wash it warm at 40C/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the bag while it is still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent washed wash the bag at a wool program. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
