30.09.2014 - 13:35DROPS Design answered:

Bon tricot !

Hi Jan. The math is correct, see here example back piece and smallest size: Cast on 86 sts. At 37 cm bind off 3 sts each side = 80 sts. Then dec for armholes each side on every other row: 2 sts 1 times and 1 st 0 times = 76 sts. So you dec 2 sts 1 time each side wich is a total of 4 sts = 80-4 = 76 which is correct. At 54 cm bind off middle 26 sts for neck = 76-26 = 50 / 2 = 25 sts on each shoulder. Dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 24 sts left on shoulder.

Can you please check the number of bind off sts for the armhole? It says to bind off 3 (on each side for a total of 6) for all sizes, but then the math doesn't work for the decreases and the number of stitches you end up with. And then on the Left front piece, there is the same math problem if only binding off 3 per side. Left front example - cast on 42 (smallest size), 13 side decreases = 29 sts, then bind off 3 for armhole = 26 sts, but it says 24 sts left.

Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows. Pattern: See diagram M.1 and M.2. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side. Decreasing tip: Because of the dec, number of sts will not always fit the pattern. Work sts not fitting into M.1 and M.2 in stockinette st. Increasing tip (applies to sleeve): Inc by making 1 YO between 2 sts. On return row work YO into back of loop in order to avoid a hole. Back piece: Cast on 86-94-102-118-126-142 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needle size 4 mm [US 6]. P 1 row from WS and then work 4 rows garter st – see above. Remember the knitting gauge! Now continue in M.2 with 1 edge st each side. (Note! No dec at sides on back piece, only on front pieces). When piece measures 37-38-39-40-41-42 cm [14½"-15"-15.2"-15.7"-16.1"-16½"] bind off 3 sts each side for armhole and continue to dec to shape the armhole each side on every other row – see Decreasing tip: 2 sts 1-2-3-6-7-10 times and 1 st 0-1-2-3-4-5 times = 76-78-80-82-84-86 sts. When piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm [21.2"-22"-22.7"-23.6"- 24.4"-25.2"] bind off the middle 26-26-28-28-30-30 sts for neck and dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 24-25-25-26-26-27 sts left on each shoulder. bind off when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm [22"-22.7"-23.6"-24.4"-25.2"-26"]. Left front piece: Cast on 42-50-50-58-66-74 sts (includes 1 edge st at side and 1 edge st towards mid front) on needle size 4 mm [US 6]. P 1 row from WS and work 4 rows garter st. Now continue in M.1 as follows (from RS): 1 edge st, M.1 on the next 40-48-48-56-64-72 sts and finish row with 1 edge st. Continue in pattern like this. At the same time when piece measures 6 cm [2.4"] dec 1 st at side – see Decreasing tip – on every 2-1.5-2-2-1.5-1.5 cm [0.7"-½"-0.7"-0.7"-½"-½"] a total of 13-17-14-14-19-19 times = 29-33-36-44-47-55 sts. When piece measures 37-38-39-40-41-42 cm [14½"-15"-15.2"-15.7"-16.1"-16½"] bind off for armhole at side as described for back piece = 24-25-25-26-26-27 sts left on shoulder. bind off when piece measures 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm [22"-22.7"-23.6"-24.4"-25.2"-26"]. Right front piece: Cast on and work like left front piece, but mirrored, i.e. work M.2 instead of M.1. Sleeve: Cast on 42-44-46-48-50-52 sts (includes 1 edge st each side) on needle size 4 mm [US 6]. Work garter st back and forth on needle until piece measures 3 cm [1.1"]. Now continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 41-43-45-47-49-51 sts evenly on first row – see Increasing tip = 83-87-91-95-99-103 sts. When piece measures 15 cm [6"] dec 1 st each side on every 2 cm [3/4"] a total of 7-6-6-5-4-4 times = 69-75-79-85-91-95 sts. When piece measures 30-29-29-27-25-23 cm [11.7"-11.4"-11.4"- 10.6"-9.7"-9"] (less on the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and wider shoulder) dec to shape the sleeve cap each side on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 4 times, 1 st 0-1-2-5-7-11 times, then 2 sts each side until piece measures 36-36-37-37-37-38 cm [14.2"-14.2"-14½"-14½"- 14½"-15"]. Now dec 3 sts each side 1 time and bind off remaining sts. Sleeve measures approx 37-37-38-38-38-39 cm [14½"-14½"- 15"-15"-15"-15.2"]. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Front band and neckline: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Pick of sts for front band and neckline on needle size 3.5 mm [US 4] as follows (beg at bottom of right front piece): 155 to 184 sts along right front piece, 35 to 43 sts round neckline at back and 155 to 184 sts along left front piece = 345 to 411 sts (number of sts must be divisible by 6+3). Work 4 rows garter st (first row = WS). Now work next row as follows from WS: 3 garter sts, *K3/P3*, repeat from *-* and finish with K3 and 3 garter sts. When Rib measures 7 cm [2.7"] make 4-4-4-5-5-5 buttonholes evenly distributed on right front band. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on return row. Place the lower buttonhole approx 25 cm [9.7"] from bottom edge, and the remaining with approx 7 cm [2.7"] between each. When front band measures approx 8 cm [3.1"] bind off in Rib. Assembly: Set in sleeves and sew side and sleeve seams inside 1 edge st. Sew on buttons. |
