Dear Mrs Masome, you will insert a thread in the stitches on top of head as shown here when working with the thread to tighten with, ie in the outermost stitches on each ridge towards the top. Happy knitting!

Dear Mrs Masome, this mean you will work the first 2 stitches seen from RS with double yarn, just as shown in this video. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!*

HAT: Knitting gauge: 10 sts x 22 rows on needles size 9 mm / US 13 in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''. Garter sts (back and forth on row): Knit all rows. Knitting tips: After each turn in the middle of piece, slip 1 st as if to knit, tighten the thread and continue. This is to avoid holes at the beg/end of rows. Hat: The hat is knitted from side to side in garter sts. Cast on 24 sts on needle size 9 mm / US 13 with Snow. Note! The first 2 sts along the lower edge are worked with 2 strands throughout. Continue as follows: *2 rows in garter sts over the first 19 sts (i.e. knit the first 19 sts, turn piece and knit returning row), 2 rows garter sts over all 24 sts*, repeat from *-* - see Knitting tips. When piece measures approx 54 cm / 21'' bind off. Sew hat tog in the outer loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam. Make a pompon with a diameter of approx 10 cm / 4'' and attach to top of hat. SCARF: Knitting gauge: 9 sts x 18 rows on needles size 10 mm / US 15 in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''. Garter sts (back and forth on row): Knit all rows. Scarf: Loosely cast on 16 sts on needle size 10 mm / US 15 with Snow. Work garter sts until scarf measures approx 200 cm / 79'' and bind off. Pompons: Make 12 pompons, each with a diameter of approx 6 cm / 2½''. Make 12 ch-bands, each measuring 8 cm / 3''. Attach bands to pompons and attach to scarf. MITTENS: Knitting gauge: 11 sts x 22 rows on needles size 8 mm / US 11 in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm / 4'' x 4''. Garter sts (back and forth on row): Knit all rows. Increasing: Inc by making a yo. On the returning row knit into back of yo to avoid making a hole. Mitten: Worked back and forth on needle and sewn tog at the side afterwards. Cast on 23 (27) sts on needle size 8 mm / US 11 in Snow and work 10 (12) cm / 4" (4 3/4") in garter sts. On next row dec 4 sts evenly = 19 (23) sts. Continue and when piece measures 13 (15) cm / 5" (6") insert a marker in the 9th (11th) st. Now inc 1 st on each side of the marker for thumb on every other row a total of 2 times - see Increasing tips = 23 (27) sts. After the last inc put the new sts (incl st with marker) + 1 st on each side of these sts on a holder for thumb = 7 thumb sts. Continue in garter sts over the remaining 16 (20) sts until piece measures 24 (27) cm / 9½" (10½"). Now K2 tog across = 8 (10) sts. Cut the yarn and pull it through remaining sts. Sew tight. Thumb: Put the 7 thumb sts back on needle and work garter sts, at the same time inc 1 (2) sts on the first row = 8 (9) sts. When thumb measures 2.5 (3.5) cm / 1" (1 1/4") K tog the first 2 and the last 2 sts on row = 6 (7) sts. Repeat the dec on next row = 4 (5) sts. Cut the yarn, pull it through remaining sts and sew tight. Assembly: Sew the side seam in the outer most sts to avoid a chunky seam. Sew the thumb seam in the same way. Make a pompon with a diameter of approx 5 cm / 2'' and attach to the upper edge. |
