In this DROPS video we show how you can knit your work with a thread on one side to tighten with.

Sometimes you need to tighten the edge on a toe of a sock or a hat or another design. You can sew in a tightening thread afterward but the easiest and with the nicest result is if you let a tightening thread follow the edge while you are working the piece. Insert a matching thread in the outer loop of st and let this thread follow the edge, make sure to wrap the working thread around it when turning at the edge. Afterward pull hard, tie and fasten tails.

DROPS Design :

Dear Mrs Gill, this is done when working the short rows for elevation to avoid a hole, you just have to tighten the yarn as explained and shown in this video to the elevation. Happy knitting!

In this DROPS video we show a pair of mittens before and after felting. To prevent the thumb from felting together, turn the mitten to WS (wrong side) and place a narrow silk ribbon along the thumb. Secure the ribbon with a safety pin – NB: insert the pin vertically towards the tip of the thumb so it is easy to remove after felting. Turn the mitten back to RS (right side) before felting. 1. Place the mittens in the washing machine with a wool detergent that does not contain enzymes or optical brighteners. 2. Wash at 40 °C / 104 °F, normal spin, no pre-wash. 3. Stretch and shape the mittens to the correct measurements while still wet. 4. If they turn out too small: soak in water until completely wet, then stretch back to the desired size. 5. Afterwards, the mittens can be washed as any other wool garment.

In this DROPS video we how to make 3 strands out of 1 single strand from a ball of yarn. 1. Make a simple loop (like the loop worked when you begin any crochet project) and pull it to approx. 2-3 cm in length. 2. Thread the strand from the skein through this loop, creating a new loop of approx. 40-50 cm. 3. Lay this loop alongside the working strand, so 1 strand becomes 3 strands. 4. Knit or crochet using these 3 strands until there is approx. 2 cm left. Repeat points 2 to 4.

Place the strands together, but use your left index finger to hold the threads apart (let one strand (pink) lie at the top above the finger and let the other strand (light blue) lie at the bottom under the index finger) and make sure that the strands that are to be crocheted with are in the same order along the way. Work like this: * Take the hook over and around the light blue strand (2 loops on the hook), take the hook under and around the pink strand and pull the pink strand through both loops on the hook *, work from *-* to desired length. Cut the strands leaving 10 cm (used to fasten the cord), thread the pink strand through the last loop on the hook. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. In this DROPS video we show how to make a knot to be attached as a decoration to a Santa that is worked on a jumper. The same technique is also used to make a star at the top of a Christmas tree jumper. KNOT: Make a knot at the top of every Santa hat/ Christmas tree. Tie the knot around a stitch. Cut 2 lengths of colour off white. approx. 10 cm. Place strands together, use a needle and pull strands through the top off white stitch so that both yarn ends are on the right side of piece, on each side of stitch. Tie a knot, then tie another knot but in the opposite direction. Cut the yarn ends approx. ½ cm (Santa) / 1 cm (Christmas tree) long. In this DROPS video we show how to sew / embroider twisted chain stitch. Insert the needle from the wrong side and through to the right side where you would like the chain stitch to begin. * Thread the needle down through the hole the strand came up through, then to the right side again approx. 2 cm further on – allow the strand to lie in a loop around the tip of the needle. Pick up the loop and twist it 2-3 times before laying it down again under the tip of the needle. Pull the strand through carefully, so the stitch is neat.
