Bon tricot!

The measurements for this seem a little odd. Only 40 stitches and 32.5 inches long. It is very narrow and doesn’t seem like mine will resemble the picture. I am using yarn and needles as per the pattern. Am I doing something wrong as it is only about 8” wide?
14.03.2020 - 14:43DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Wright, if your tension is correct finished bag should be then approx. 8 3/4 " x 7" - you are working a whole rectangle folded into 3 to get the bag + the flap. Read more about felting here - do not hesitate to contact the store where you bought the yarn for any further individual assistance. Happy knitting!

I would like to make this in Alaska with the cream color as my base and add stripes in darker colors of Alaska. Will the darker colors bleed in the felting process? If they do have a tendency to bleed, is there an additive that will prevent it? Thank you!
10.03.2018 - 15:26DROPS Design answered:
Dear Pamela, except for the black one, all the other Alaska colors can be felted well without getting mixed.

I loved this pattern. I made it about 1 1/2 inches larger all around and then I lined it. I have gotten many compliments on it. Definately worth it.

Gauge: 17 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"] on needle size 5 mm [US 8] and stocking stitch. Needle size is only recommended! Garter st (back and forth on st): Knit all sts on all rows. Felting: Felt the bag in washing machine on regular warm wash. If the bag doesn’t felt enough the first time, wash it again on higher temperature. NOTE! The looser you knit, the more will the piece shrink. Bag: Cast on 40 sts on needle size 4,5 mm [US 7] and work 2 rows in garter sts. Change to needle size 5 mm [US 8] and continue with stocking sts until work measures approx 82 cm [32½"]. Change to needle size 4,5 mm [US 7] again and work 2 rows in garter sts. Bind off. Assembly: Fold bag double, but leave approx 1/5 of the total length to fold as flap. Sew sides together in outermost stitches. Handle: Make a plait of approx 100-120 cm [39½"-47"] of 18 threads, i.e. 6 threads in each part. Fasten/sew plait on each side of bag, on inside. Felt the bag in washing machine - see explanation above. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
