Thanks for the answer, but still counting from the back - 6+12+18+24+18+12=90 so it is left 10 chain stitches for first edge, counting 3 as first double crochet, still 7 chain stitches left, is to much for the edge

Dear Magda, work the 100 chains as follows: A.1 (6 sts), A.2 (12 sts), A.3 (1 st), A.2 (18 sts), A.4 (1 st), A.2 (24 sts), A.3 (1 st), A.2 (18 sts), A.4 (1 st), A.2 (12 sts), A.5 (6 sts) = 6+12+1+18+1+24+1+18+1+12+6=100 sts. At the beg of A.1 start with 3 chains (they are not included in the 100 chains). Can this help?

For size S the number of initial chain stitches is 100. However, counting the first 3 stitches as the first double crochet, then 6 for the edge, 12 for the front, 18 for the sleeve, 24 for the back, 18 for the sleeve, 12 for the front and 6 for the edge, the total is 99, not 100, hence the difference of one chain stitch?
08.04.2026 - 13:47DROPS Design answered:
Hi Magda, counting the first 3 stitches as the first double crochet, then 5 for the edge (see A.1 diagram and description of symbols), 12 for the front, 18 for the sleeve, 24 for the back, 18 for the sleeve, 12 for the front and 6 for the edge, the total is 100. Happy crocheting!

Hello, please could you clarify whether the increases in the chain space on A3 and A4 are on the sleeve side or the back side. I can’t work out my stitch count. Many thanks.
12.02.2025 - 23:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Alex, the chain stitch is the raglan stitch, which doesn't belong to either side. In A.3, the stitches before the chain space belong to the front piece/back piece and the stitches after the chain space for the sleeves. According to the chart, you will have more increases for the front piece/back piece (right side of chart) than the sleeve (left side of chart). In A.4, the stitches before the chain space belong to the sleeves and the stitches after the chain space are for the front/back pieces. According to the chart, you will have more increases for the front piece/back piece (left side of chart) than the sleeve (left side of chart). Happy crochetting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.9. CROCHET INFORMATION: Each row begins with 3 chain stitches which replace the first double crochet. On the next row work the last double crochet in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the previous row. CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double crochet is wide. WORK 2 DOUBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER: When the increases on the yoke are finished, work around each chain-space as follows: * Make 1 yarn over, insert the hook around the chain-space, pick up the strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on the hook *, work from *-* 1 more time, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on the hook. DECREASE TIP: Decrease at the beginning and end of each round/row: Work the first double crochet as before (i.e., 3 chain stitches which replace it), work the next 2 double crochets together as follows: * Make 1 yarn over, insert the hook through the next stitch, pick up the strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on the hook *, work from *-* 1 more time, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on the hook (1 stitch decreased). Work as before until there are 3 double crochets left on the round, decrease 1 double crochet in the same way and work the last double crochet = 2 stitches decreased. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The yoke is worked back and forth, top down from mid-front. When the yoke is finished it is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is continued back and forth while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked back and forth with each rounds alternately worked from the right and wrong side, to avoid a seam under the sleeve and giving the same textured pattern as on the body. An edge is worked around the neckline to finish. If 0 is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information until next information. YOKE: Read CROCHET INFORMATION and CHAIN STITCH in explanations above. Use DROPS Daisy and crochet hook size 4 MM = US 6. Work 100-104-108-112-116-120 chain stitches. Turn. Work the first row from the right side as follows: A.1 across 6 chain stitches (= band), A.2 across 12-13-14-13-14-15 chain stitches (= front piece), A.3 in next chain stitch (= raglan), A.2 across 18-18-18-22-22-22 chain stitches (= sleeve), A.4 in next chain stitch (= raglan), A.2 across 24-26-28-26-28-30 chain stitches (= back piece), A.3 in next chain stitch (= raglan), A.2 across 18-18-18-22-22-22 chain stitches (= sleeve), A.4 in next chain stitch (= raglan), A.2 across 12-13-14-13-14-15 chain stitches (= front piece) and A.5 across 6 chain stitches (= band). After the first row there are 104-108-112-116-120-124 double crochets and 4 chain-spaces on the row. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the row after the first band – the piece is now measured from here. Continue back and forth until A.3 and A.4 are finished. There are 136-140-144-148-152-156 double crochets and 4 chain-spaces on the row divided as follows between the chain-spaces: 26-26-26-30-30-30 double crochets on each sleeve, 24-25-26-25-26-27 double crochets on each front piece and 36-38-40-38-40-42 double crochets on the back piece. Remember to maintain the crochet gauge. Continue working and increase as shown in A.6 (above A.3) and A.7 (above A.4) a total of 12-12-11-15-17-20 times. A total of 16-16-15-19-21-23 rows worked so far. There are 280-284-276-328-356-396 double crochets and 4 chain-spaces on the row, divided as follows between the chain-spaces: 50-50-48-60-64-70 double crochets on each sleeve, 48-49-48-55-60-67 double crochets on each front piece and 84-86-84-98-108-122 double crochets on the back piece. Continue working and increase as shown in A.8 (above A.6) and A.9 (above A.7), a total of 0-1-5-1-1-0 times. There are 280-292-316-336-364-396 double crochets and 4 chain-spaces on the row, divided as follows between the chain-spaces: 50-52-58-62-66-70 double crochets on each sleeve, 48-50-53-56-61-67 double crochets on each front piece and 84-88-94-100-110-122 double crochets on the back piece. You have worked a total of 16-17-20-20-22-24 rows and the piece measures approx. 18-19-22-22-24-27 cm = 7"-7½"-8¾"-8¾"-9½"-10⅝" from the marker mid-front. Work 1 row with 1 double crochet in each double crochet and, around each chain-space, WORK 2 DOUBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER – read explanation above = 284-296-320-340-368-400 double crochets. Continue with 1 double crochet in each double crochet and the bands as before until the yoke measures 19-20-23-24-26-28 cm = 7½"-8"-9"-9½"-10¼"-11" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work A.1/A.5 across 6 double crochets (= band), A.2 across 42-44-47-50-55-61 double crochets (= front piece), skip 52-54-60-64-68-72 double crochets (= sleeve), work 6-8-8-12-12-14 chain stitches (in side under sleeve), work A.2 across 84-88-94-100-110-122 double crochets (= back piece), skip 52-54-60-64-68-72 double crochets (= sleeve), work 6-8-8-12-12-14 chain stitches (in side under sleeve), work A.2 across 42-44-47-50-55-61 double crochets (= front piece), A.1/A.5 across 6 double crochets (= band). Now finish the body while the sleeves wait. BODY: = 192-204-216-236-256-284 stitches. Work A.1/A.5 across 6 double crochets (= band), work 1 double crochet in each double crochet as far as the chain stitches, 1 double crochet in each of the 6-8-8-12-12-14 chain stitches, work 1 double crochet in each double crochet as far as the chain stitches, 1 double crochet in each of the 6-8-8-12-12-14 chain stitches, work 1 double crochet in each double crochet until there are 6 double crochets left, work A.1/A.5 across the last 6 double crochets (= band) = 192-204-216-236-256-284 double crochets. Continue this pattern back and forth until the jacket measures approx. 47-49-51-52-54-56 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-20½"-21¼"-22" from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Continue the textured pattern from the yoke, starting from the right or wrong side as necessary (i.e., from the right side if the last row on the yoke was from the wrong side and from the wrong side if the last row on the yoke was from the right side). Start in the 4th-5th-5th-7th-7th-8th chain stitch cast on under one sleeve – remember CROCHET INFORMATION. Work 1 double crochet in each chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each of the 52-54-60-64-68-72 skipped double crochets on the sleeve, 1 double crochet in each of the last 3-4-4-6-6-7 chain stitches under the sleeve. Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 58-62-68-76-80-86 double crochets. Inset a marker-thread at the beginning of the round (mid-under sleeve). Turn. Work back and forth with 1 double crochet in each stitch, finishing the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round then turning. When the sleeve measures 3 cm = 1⅛" decrease 1 double crochet on each side of the marker-thread – read DECREASE TIP (2 double crochets decreased) Decrease like this every 12-11-5-3½-3½-3 cm = 4¾"-4⅜"-2"-1¼"-1¼"-1⅛" a total of 4-4-7-10-10-12 times = 50-54-54-56-60-62 double crochets. Work until the sleeve measures 47-46-44-44-43-41 cm = 18½"-18"-17¼"-17¼"-17"-16⅛". NECK-EDGE: Use DROPS Daisy and crochet hook size 4 MM = US 6. Fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch in the outermost stitch on the right band. Work 1 chain stitch, * skip 1 chain stitch from the cast-on edge, work 1 single crochet in the next chain stitch, work 1 chain stitch *, work from *-* along the neck. Finish with 1 slip stitch in the last stitch on the left band. Cut and fasten the strand. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. They are buttoned up between 2 double crochets on the right band. Position the first button 2 cm = ¾" below the neckline and the last button 6-6-6-5-5-5 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2"-2"-2" above the bottom edge of the jacket. Sew on the other buttons evenly between these 2. |
