Hello, please help! Just started so is the crochet tip just for the first row or every row? How do I go from the 4 chain stitches to 6 single crochets in round 1? Increase? What does work around the ring mean? It is not 6 single crochets in the ring like usual? Thank you!

Dear Sonia, yes, unless otherwise stated in the pattern, the crochet tip is applied to every round/row. In round 1 you work a ring of chain stitches; you can see a video here: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=70&lang=en. Now work the single crochets in the ring as normal; the right term is "around" since you work the stitches by surrounding the edge of the ring. So it doesn't matter how many chain stitches you initially had; what matters is the single crochets worked around the ring. The ring is smaller so as to avoid having a big hole. Happy crochetting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CROCHET TIP: When crocheting in the round, replace the first single crochet on the round with 1 chain stitch. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. When crocheting back and forth, replace the first single crochet on the row with 1 chain stitch. The row finishes with 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch at the beginning of the previous row. DECREASE TIP: Work 1 single crochet, but wait with the last pull-through (= 2 loops on hook), work the next single crochet and when working the last pull-through pull the strand through all 3 loops on the hook –1 single crochet decreased. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round from the toe as far as the top of the foot, then back and forth to mid-back of heel. The slipper is crocheted together mid-back. FRONT OF SLIPPER: Work 4 chain stitches with hook size 3 MM = US C and DROPS Lima. Form these chain stitches into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Work as described below – read CROCHET TIP and remember the CROCHET GAUGE! ROUND 1: Work 6 single crochets around the ring. ROUND 2: Work 2 single crochets in each single crochet = 12 single crochets. ROUND 3: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 4: * 1 single crochet in the first/next single crochet, 2 single crochets in the next single crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 18 single crochets. ROUND 5: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 6: * 1 single crochet in each of the first/next 2 single crochets, 2 single crochets in the next single crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 24 single crochets. ROUND 7: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 8: * 1 single crochet in each of the first/next 3 single crochets, 2 single crochets in the next single crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 30 single crochets. ROUND 9: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 10: * 1 single crochet in each of the first/next 4 single crochets, 2 single crochets in the next single crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 36 single crochets. ROUND 11: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 12: * 1 single crochet in each of the first/next 5 single crochets, 2 single crochets in the next single crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 42 single crochets. ROUNDS 13-14: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 15: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet and increase at the same time 2-6-6 single crochets evenly on the round (increase 1 stitch by working 2 single crochets in the same stitch) = 44-48-48 single crochets. The increases are finished in sizes 35/37 = US 4 1/2/6 1/2 and 38/40 = US 7 1/2/9 1/2. Continue as described below. Size 41/43 = US 10 1/2/12 1/2: ROUNDS 16-17: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet. ROUND 18: Work 1 single crochet in each single crochet and increase at the same time 0-0-4 single crochets evenly on the round = 52 single crochets. The increases are finished in all sizes. ALL SIZES: = 44-48-52 single crochets. Continue working 1 single crochet in each single crochet until the piece measures 13-13-14 cm = 5⅛"-5⅛"-5½" from the cast-on edge. Try the slipper on and work to desired length. Cut and fasten the strand. Now divide the piece and finish the slipper back and forth as described below. BACK OF SLIPPER: 44-48-52 single crochets on the round. Beginning of round = mid-under foot. Work single crochets back and forth over the last 16-17-18 single crochets and the first 16-17-18 single crochets on the round – a total of 32-34-36 single crochets; i.e. you are not working the middle 12-14-16 single crochets on top of the foot – remember the CROCHET TIP! When the slipper measures 20-22-25 cm = 8"-8¾"-9¾" from the cast-on edge, insert 1 marker in the middle of the 32-34-36 stitches. There is approx. 2 cm = ¾" left to finished length, try the slipper on and work to desired length. On the next row decrease 1 single crochet on each side of the marker, i.e. start 2 stitches before the marker and work the next 4 single crochets together 2 and 2 – read DECREASE TIP (= 2 single crochets decreased). Work 1 row without decreasing. Repeat the decrease on the next row (= 2 single crochets decreased) = 28-30-32 single crochets. Work 1 row without decreasing. Lay the slipper single with the right side to the inside and crochet together the seam mid-back by working a row of slip stitches through both layers. The slipper measures approx. 22-24-27 cm = 8¾"-9½"-10⅝" from toe to heel. Cut and fasten the strand. Work an edge around the opening as described below. EDGE: Start from the right side, mid-back and work 1 single crochet with hook size 3 MM = US C and DROPS Lima. Continue as follows: * 1 chain stitch, skip ½ cm = ⅛", 1 single crochet in the next stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round and finish with 1 chain stitch and 1 slip stitch in the single crochet at the beginning of the round. Cut and fasten the strand. Work the other slipper in the same way. |
