Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in American and British English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in British English, please click here.
See diagram A.1. Work entire pattern in stockinette st.

Work until 2 sts remain before marker, K 2 tog and then K 2 twisted tog.

Row 1 (= RS): Work until 7-7-8-8 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, turn piece.
Row 2 (= WS): Work until 7-7-8-8 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P 1, psso, turn piece.
Row 3 (= RS): Work until 6-6-7-7 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, turn piece.
Row 4 (= WS): Work until 6-6-7-7 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P 1, psso, turn piece.
Continue dec like this with 1 st less before every dec until there are 12-14-14-14 sts on needle.

Worked in the round on double pointed needles.
Cast on 64-64-68-68 sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 with light beige brown.
Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 5 cm / 2''. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 and K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 4-4-8-8 sts evenly = 60 sts. Insert a marker at beg of round = mid back. Work in stockinette st according to diagram A.1.
When piece measures 6-6-8-8 cm / 2½"-2½"-3"-3", dec 2 sts mid back - READ DECREASE TIP. Repeat dec every 3-5-7-8 cm / 1"-2"-2 3/4"-3", 5-3-1-1 more times = 48-52-56-56 sts – NOTE: Pattern will not fit mid back when decreasing but make sure that pattern fits around the sock otherwise.
When A.1 has been worked, piece measures approx. 22 cm / 8 3/4''. Then work with light beige brown until piece measures 23-24-25-26 cm / 9"-9½"-9 3/4"-10 1/4". On next round, keep the first 12-13-14-14 sts on needle for heel, slip the next 24-26-28-28 sts on a stitch holder (= mid on top of foot) and keep the last 12-13-14-14 sts on needle for heel.
Continue in stockinette st back and forth over the 24-26-28-28 heel sts for 5-5½-6-6½ cm / 2½"-2 1/4"-2½"-2 3/4". Insert a marker in middle of piece. Then work HEEL DECREASE - see explanation above.
After heel dec, pick up 11-12-13-14 sts along each side of heel and slip the 24-26-28-28 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 58-64-68-70 sts. Insert a marker on each side of the 24-26-28-28 sts on top of foot.
Continue in stockinette st in the round while AT THE SAME TIME dec in each side as follows: K the last 2 sts BEFORE the first marker on top of foot twisted tog and K the first 2 sts AFTER last marker on top of foot tog.
Repeat dec every other round 6-7-7-6 more times = 44-48-52-56 sts. Continue until piece measures 18-20-22-25 cm / 7"-8"-8 3/4"-9 3/4" from marker on heel (= approx. 4-4-5-5 cm / 1½"-1½"-2"-2" remain). Insert a marker in each side so that there are 22-24-26-28 sts both on top of foot and under foot.
Continue working in stockinette st while AT THE SAME TIME dec for toes on each side of both markers - SEE DECREASE TIP (= 4 sts dec).
Repeat dec every other round 3-3-4-4 more times and then every round a total of 5-6-6-7 times = 8 sts remain on needle.
Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.
