---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. RIGHT BAND WITH I-CORD: RIGHT SIDE: Work band as follows (= 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches): Work 5-5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. WRONG SIDE: Work band as follows (= 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5-5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches in garter stitch. LEFT BAND WITH I-CORD: RIGHT SIDE: Work band as follows (= 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5-5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches in garter stitch. WRONG SIDE: Work band as follows (= 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches): Work 5-5-5-5-7-7-7 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Continue like this from both right side and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. Read the diagrams from right to left when working from right side and from left to right when working from wrong side. When increasing for raglan and V-neck, work the new stitches in pattern as shown in diagrams, i.e. work stitches in stocking stitch until they fit with 3 or 6 stitches in pattern. Work the stitches that do not fit the pattern in stocking stitch. RAGLAN: All increases are done from right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next row (= wrong side) work yarn overs as explained below: BEFORE RAGLAN STITCH (= twist yarn over towards the left): Purl yarn over in stitch loop behind the needle - to avoid holes. Work the new stitches as explained in PATTERN. AFTER RAGLAN STITCH (= twist yarn over towards the right): Move yarn over from left needle to right needle purlwise, slip yarn over back on left needle by inserting left needle from behind in yarn over (yarn over is now twisted). Purl yarn over in stitch loop that is in front the needle - to avoid holes. Work the new stitches as explained in PATTERN. V-NECK: All increases are done from right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next row (= wrong side) work yarn overs as explained below: AFTER RIGHT BAND (= twist yarn over towards the right): Move yarn over from left needle to right needle purlwise, slip yarn over back on left needle by inserting left needle from behind in yarn over (yarn over is now twisted). Purl yarn over in stitch loop that is in front the needle - to avoid holes. Work the new stitches as explained in PATTERN. BEFORE LEFT BAND (= twist yarn over towards the left): Purl yarn over in stitch loop behind the needle - to avoid holes. Work the new stitches as explained in PATTERN. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1-1-1-1-2-2-2, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease first buttonhole when 1 cm has been worked after last increase for V-neck. Then decrease the next 3 buttonholes, approx. 8-8-8½-8-8½-9-9 cm apart. Adjust so that bottom buttonhole is placed in the transition between beehive pattern and rib on body. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Piece is worked back and forth, top down. First work 2 bands, then cast on stitches for yoke between bands. Work yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Sew bands from each front piece together, seam = mid back, fasten band to stitches at the back of the neck. RIGHT BAND: Cast on 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches on needle size 5 mm with 1 strand DROPS Sky and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Work RIGHT BAND WITH I-CORD – read explanation above. Work until band measures 13-13-13-15-15-16-16 cm, finish after 1 knit row from wrong side. Put piece aside. LEFT BAND: Cast on 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches on needle size 5 mm with 1 strand DROPS Sky and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Work LEFT BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above. Work until band measures 13-13-13-15-15-16-16 cm, finish after 1 knit row from wrong side. Do not cut the yarn, work next row with this strand from right side as explained below. YOKE: Now cast on stitches for yoke between bands. Use circular needle size 5 mm and work first row from right side as follows: Work left band as before, cast on 60-60-60-66-66-72-72 new stitches on row, work stitches from right band as before (from right side) = 74-74-74-80-84-90-90 stitches. Purl 1 row from wrong side with 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches in band in each side as before. Insert 1 marker on the inside of band in one side of piece, measure piece from this marker. Insert 4 markers in piece without working the stitches, insert markers in a stitch, these stitches are called raglan stitches and increase is done for raglan on each side of raglan stitches. Raglan stitches are worked in stocking stitch. Count 8-8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches (= left front piece), insert 1st marker in next stitch, count 12 stitches (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker in next stitch, count 30-30-30-36-36-42-42 stitches (= back piece), insert 3rd marker in next stitch, count 12 stitches (= sleeve), insert 4th marker in next stitch. 8-8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches remain on row for right front piece. Now work PATTERN back and forth with bands as before, increase for RAGLAN on each side of raglan stitches and increase for V-NECK on the inside of band in each side - read explanation above for increase method and for explanation on pattern. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Work first row as follows from right side: Work band as before, increase 1 stitch for V-neck, work A.1, increase for raglan on each side of raglan stitch, work A.2 and A.4 (= sleeve), increase for raglan on each side of raglan stitch, work A.2, work A.3 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 times in total, work A.4 (= back piece), increase for raglan on each side of raglan stitch, work A.2 and A.4 (= sleeve), increase for raglan on each side of raglan stitch, work A.5, increase 1 stitch for V-neck, work band as before (= 8 stitches increased for raglan and 2 stitches increased for V-neck). Work next row as follows from wrong side: Work pattern and band as before (remember to work yarn overs as explained in RAGLAN). The pattern is now established and 1 increase for raglan and 1 increase for V-neck have been done. Continue increase for raglan and V-neck as explained below - read both sections before continuing. RAGLAN: Increase for raglan on every other row, increase on each side of raglan stitches 19-19-19-19-25-22-16 times in total (including increase on 1st row). Then continue increase as follows: Increase for raglan on every other row on front pieces and back piece, but on sleeves increase only on every 4th row (= alternately 4 and 8 stitches increased), repeat this increase 12-12-18-18-12-18-30 in total times on front pieces and back piece and 6-6-9-9-6-9-15 times on sleeves. 31-31-37-37-37-40-46 increases have been done in total for raglan on front pieces/back piece and 25-25-28-28-31-31-31 increases on sleeves. V-NECK: Increase for V-neck in both sides of piece inside band the same way as explained on 1st row (= 1 stitch increased in each side). Increase for V-neck every other row 3 more times and then every 4th row 12-12-12-15-15-18-18 times. 15-15-15-18-18-21-21 increases have been done in total for V-neck. After all increases for raglan and V-neck there are 328-328-364-376-392-416-440 stitches on needle and piece measures approx. 23-23-27-27-27-30-34 cm from marker at the front. If the garment is shorter than this, continue until correct measurements without increasing - remember BUTTONHOLES on right band - read explanation above - AT THE SAME TIME on last row from right side decrease 4 stitches by working stitches with marker as follows: 2nd and 4th marker: Knit stitch with marker twisted together with next stitch. 1st and 3rd marker: Begin 1 stitch before stitch with marker, knit 2 together = 324-324-360-372-388-412-436 stitches. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work the first 54-54-60-63-65-71-77 stitches as before (= right front piece), slip the next 62-62-68-68-74-74-74 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 4-16-4-10-16-16-22 new stitches on row (in the side under sleeve), work the next 92-92-104-110-110-122-134 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 62-62-68-68-74-74-74 stitches on 1 thread for sleeve, cast on 4-16-4-10-16-16-22 new stitches on row (in the side under sleeve) and work the last 54-54-60-63-65-71-77 stitches as before (= left front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 208-232-232-256-272-296-332 stitches. Work pattern as follows: 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches band as before, 1 stitch in stocking stitch, work A.3 until 8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches remain on row, (make sure to continue pattern correctly over stitches from yoke), work 1 stitch in stocking stitch, 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches band as before. Work like this until piece measures approx. 44-46-48-50-51-53-55 cm from marker mid front - finish after a row equal to 4th or 10th row in A.3. On next row from right side begin rib AT THE SAME TIME decrease 1 stitch, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work band as before, knit the 2 first stitch twisted together (= 1 stitch decreased), work rib (= purl 1 / knit 1) until 7-7-7-7-9-9-9 stitches remain, work band as before. When rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl or cast off with Italian cast-off. Jacket measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 62-62-68-68-74-74-74 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 4-16-4-10-16-16-22 stitches cast on under sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 66-78-72-78-90-90-96 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 4-16-4-10-16-16-22 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work A.3 in the round over all stitches (make sure to continue pattern correctly over stitches from yoke). AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches on every other round 2-3-2-2-4-2-4 times in total, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-2-3-2-1-1-0 cm 2-4-2-3-5-3-0 times in total = 58-64-64-68-72-80-88 stitches - work the stitches that do not fit the pattern when decreasing in stocking stitch. Work until sleeve measures approx. 12-13-10-10-10-6-4 cm from division - finish after a round equal to 4th or 10th round in A.3. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib (knit 1/purl 1) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl or cast off with Italian cast off. Sleeve measures approx. 15-16-13-13-14-10-8 cm from division. ASSEMBLY: Sew bands from each front piece together – seam = mid back, then fasten band to stitches in the back of the neck. Sew buttons on to left front piece. |
