In this DROPS video we show how to cast off by sewing an Italian cast off to a rib with 1Knit 1Purl in the round.

Before we start casting off, we work 4 rounds where the knit stitches and the purl stitches are worked separately. In the 1st and 3rd round, work the knit stitches, while the purl stitches are loosely lifted off as if they are to be worked purl with the thread in front. In the 2nd and 4th round work the purl stitches and lift the knit stitches loosely off as if they are to be purl.

We use a stitch marker to show the beginning of the round, but when we start casting off, we put a stitch marker in the 1st knit stitch and in the 1st purl stitch. Cut the thread, the thread end to be sewn with must be at least 4 times as long as the piece to be cast off.

Now the casting off part start.

* Insert the needle into the 1st knit stitch as if to knit, pull the thread through and lift the stitch off the needle. Insert the needle into the 2nd knit stitch as if to purl and pull the thread through, let this stitch sit on the needle. Insert the needle from the right in the 1st purl stitch and towards you, pull the thread through and remove the stitch from needle. Insert the needle from the back between the next 2 stitches, turn the needle and insert the needle back, but then in the purl stitch as if to knit and pull the thread through.

Repeat from * around until there are 2 stitches left, put the first 2 stitches (stitches with markers), on needle and continue casting off. Since the thread has already been through the first 2 stitches at the beginning of the round 1 time, sew these stitches only 1 time through at the end. Fasten the thread to the back.

Hei Anne-Berit. Mulig du strammer for mye når du feller av, vanskelig å gi et svar når jeg ikke ser/kjenner på arbeidet. Når de siste 4 omgangen strikkes som i videoen "synker" vrangmaskene litt bak og uttrykket på det ferdige resultatet skal bli litt bedre. Men ikke stram tråden når det kun løftes en maske over. mvh DROPS Design

In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian cast off in a piece work with Knit 2 Purl 2. Before starting the cast off, work 1 round where 2 knit - 2 purl becomes 1 knit - 1 purl. In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian cast off in a rib with K1 / P1 without a needle, also called tubular cast off. Our sample is a knitted cuff in K1, P1 ribbing. First you will knit 4 rows where half the sts are worked separate, and this is done by lifting all the P sts and knitting all the K sts. Work like this for 4 rows. Then we separate the sts by putting them on one needle each. Once that is done make sure both needles are pointing towards the end of the working yarn, which is attached to the needle in the back. In this DROPS video we show a pair of mittens before and after felting. To prevent the thumb from felting together, turn the mitten to WS (wrong side) and place a narrow silk ribbon along the thumb. Secure the ribbon with a safety pin – NB: insert the pin vertically towards the tip of the thumb so it is easy to remove after felting. Turn the mitten back to RS (right side) before felting. 1. Place the mittens in the washing machine with a wool detergent that does not contain enzymes or optical brighteners. 2. Wash at 40 °C / 104 °F, normal spin, no pre-wash. 3. Stretch and shape the mittens to the correct measurements while still wet. 4. If they turn out too small: soak in water until completely wet, then stretch back to the desired size. 5. Afterwards, the mittens can be washed as any other wool garment.

How to turn 1 strand into 3 from the same ball of yarn

In this DROPS video we how to make 3 strands out of 1 single strand from a ball of yarn. 1. Make a simple loop (like the loop worked when you begin any crochet project) and pull it to approx. 2-3 cm in length. 2. Thread the strand from the skein through this loop, creating a new loop of approx. 40-50 cm. 3. Lay this loop alongside the working strand, so 1 strand becomes 3 strands. 4. Knit or crochet using these 3 strands until there is approx. 2 cm left. Repeat points 2 to 4.
