------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 17 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 5) = 3.4. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 3rd and 4th stitch. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in sections, top down. The sleeves are worked top down, first back and forth then in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 108-116-124-124-132-140 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and 1 strand Nord and 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read description above, (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue back and forth like this until the piece measures 7-8-8-8-9-9 cm – adjust so that the next row is worked from the right side. Work as follows: ROW 1: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, rib as before over the next 14-18-22-22-26-30 stitches, turn, tighten the strand so you do not get a hole. ROW 2: Work rib back until there is 1 stitch left on the row and finish with1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Cut the strand. Now work in the same way on the other side of the piece, i.e. over the last 15-19-23-23-27-31 stitches on the row (seen from the right side). Start from the wrong side and work as follows: ROW 1: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, rib over the next 14-18-22-22-26-30 stitches, turn, tighten the strand so that you do not get a hole. ROW 2: Work rib back until there is 1 stitch left on the row and finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Cut the strand. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Now work over all stitches on the needle, starting from the right side as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, stocking stitch over the next 14-18-22-22-26-30 stitches, (purl 2 together, knit 2) over the next 78 stitches (= 20 stitches decreased), stocking stitch over the next 14-18-22-22-26-30 stitches and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Purl 1 row back from the wrong side with 1 edge stitch in each side = 88-96-104-104-112-120 stitches. Now work pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, stocking stitch over the next 14-18-22-22-26-30 stitches, A.1 (= 58 stitches – the pattern should fit so that you knit over the 2 knitted stitches and garter stitch over the purled stitches in the rib), stocking stitch over the next 14-18-22-22-26-30 stitches and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue like this back and forth. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 16-17-18-19-20-21 cm cast on 5-5-5-9-10-11 new stitches at the end of the next 2 rows = 98-106-114-122-132-142 stitches. Continue with pattern A.1, stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When the piece measures 23-24-25-26-27-28 cm from where you cast on stitches for the armhole, cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 2 rows (marks the split) = 96-104-112-120-130-140 stitches. Now work pattern as before, but with 2 stitches in garter stitch in each side (= edge along the split on each side). When A.1 has been completed in height a total of 5 times, the piece measures approx. 32-32-31-30-30-29 cm from the armhole. Continue with knit over knit and garter stitch over garter stitch (work the remaining stiches as before) until the piece measures 33-33-33-34-34-35 cm from the armholes and down - adjust so that the next row is worked as follows from the right side: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, knit the next 17-21-25-29-34-39 stitches and increase 5-5-5-5-4-7 stitches evenly over these knitted stitches (= 22-26-30-34-38-46 stitches stocking stitch) – read INCREASE TIP, then knit over knit and garter stitch over garter stitch over the next 58 stitches and increase at the same time 1 purled stitch after each stitch in garter stitch (= 20 stitches increased = 78 stitches), knit the next 17-21-25-29-34-39 stitches and increase 5-5-5-5-4-7 stitches evenly over these stitches (= 22-26-30-34-38-46 stitches), 2 edge stitches in garter stitch = 126-134-142-150-158-174 stitches. Work 1 row back again - the increased stitches after the garter stitch stitches in A.1 are knitted twisted from the wrong side and the stitches increased in stocking stitch in each side are purled twisted from the wrong side to avoid holes. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and work rib as follows: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 4 stitches left on the row, knit 2 and 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue back and forth like this until the rib measures 7-8-9-9-10-10 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl, but to make sure the cast-off edge is not tight make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch. The yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. The piece measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder down. BACK PIECE: Cast on and work in the same way as the front piece. SLEEVE: The sleeves are first worked back and forth with circular needle, and then continued in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles. Working back and forth to start off with is so that the sleeve can be sewn into the armhole on the body. Cast on 54-58-61-65-68-71 stitches with short circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand Nord + 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Work stocking stitch back and forth with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side. When the piece measures 2-2-2-5-5-6 cm continue with stocking stitch in the round and short circular needle/double pointed needles. Insert a marker thread at the beginning of the round. The marker thread follows your work onwards. When the piece measures 4-4-4-2-2-2 cm from where you began working in the round, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 7th-6th-5th-4th-4th-3rd round a total of 7-8-9-10-10-11 times = 40-42-43-45-48-49 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures a total of 28-27-26-26-25-24 cm (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider shoulders and longer sleeve cap). Now increase 8-6-9-7-8-7 stitches evenly on round = 48-48-52-52-56-56 stitches. Change to needle size 4 mm, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 6 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl, but to avoid the cast off edge being tight make 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch. The yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. The sleeve measures a total of 34-33-32-32-31-30 cm. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams in each and every stitch, leaving approx. 27-28-29-29-30-31 cm for neck. Sew side seams inside the 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side, from where the new stitches were cast on for the armhole and down to the split in each side (= 17 cm split). Sew in sleeves inside the 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on the body and inside the cast-on edge on the sleeves. Sew the openings under the sleeves as far as where the sleeves began to be worked in the round. |
