Then P 1 round, K 1 round and P 1 round before binding off with K. HANDLE: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 6 sts on circular needle size 8 mm/US 11 with dark grey. Work as follows: * K 1, place yarn in front of piece (i.e. towards you), slip 1 st as if to P, place yarn behind piece (from you) *, repeat from *-* the rest of row. Turn piece and repeat from *-* upwards on all rows. Working like this makes a handle worked seemingly in the round. Bind off when piece measures approx. 100 cm/39½". Knit another handle. ASSEMBLY: Sew the bag tog at the bottom. Fasten one handle in each side of bag, approx. 8 cm/3" in from the sides. CROCHET ROSE: Work 2 roses in every color, except dark gray. Crochet on hook size 6 mm/J as follows: ch 4, form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. ROUND 2: Crochet as follows in every ch-space: 1 sl st, 5 dc and 1 sl st = 3 leaves. Turn piece, work next round on the back of the rose. ROUND 3: Ch 1, work 1 sc around first sc from 1st round, ch 4, work 1 sc at the bottom in the mid of first leaf from 2nd round, * then ch 4, work 1 sc around next sc from 1st round, then ch 4, work 1 sc at the bottom in the mid of next leaf from 2nd round *, repeat from *-* until a total of 5 ch-spaces have been worked, finish with ch 4 and 1 sl st in first sc from from beg of round = 6 ch-spaces. ROUND 5: Ch 1, work 1 sc around first sc from 3rd round, ch 6, * work 1 sc around next sc from 3rd round, ch 6, * repeat from *-* until a total of 5 ch-spaces have been worked, finish with ch 6 and 1 sl st in first sc from beg of round = 6 ch-spaces. Turn piece, work last round from the RS of the rose. ROUND 6: Crochet as follows in every ch-space: 1 sl st, 6 dc and 1 sl st = 6 leaves. Fasten off. Rose measures approx. 10 cm/4" in diameter. Do not fasten the roses before felting. FELTING: Place the bag and the roses in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash warm at 40C/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the bag and the roses to the right size while still wet and leave to dry flat. Sew the roses on to one side, there should be 4 in breadth and 3 vertically, use a thin, gray wool thread to fasten with. At subsequent wash, wash the bag at regular wool program. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
