I followed the pattern with no adjustments. I felted the slippers in a front loader on warm, normal setting which takes about an hour and a half. I added a small towel and 2 tennis balls. The slippers were a bit big so I put them in the washer again on hot for another hour or so. They turned out perfectly. Especially when I molded them while still damp on my own feet. My first time felting. Thank you - I'm really pleased. Super cozy!

Bon tricot!

Just a side note: from the German translation this part is missing "Fold slipper double and sew tog mid back" so I was a bit confused how to sew it. I got lots of help from the DROPS Workshop facebook group - so if anyone needs help, I can recommend it. I was first time felting, and it turned out very good :)

Dear Mrs Wylie, towards front, thread the yarn in the outermost stitch and tighten together to close the hole. Hope it will help, happy knitting!

Hello. I cannot seem to find a photograph or video that corresponds to this pattern. Or are those little ballerina type slippers pictured it? I really struggled to figure out where/how to fold the cuff of the slipper. As I interpreted the assembly steps, folding 'mid-back' produced a very thick, unattractive ankle cuff. I think I would make the cuff short enough to skip the folding altogether next time, but I would love to know if I've done this totally wrong! Thanks
01.12.2020 - 13:33DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Jones, the opening of the slipper will be the 8-10 stitches in garter stitch worked on each side of piece - at the very end you fold the cast off stitches together and sew them - if you want to avoid a seam, you can sew them using grafting technique. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. INCREASING TIP: Inc from RS with 1 YO. On next row work YO into back of loop to avoid a hole. ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER: Worked back and forth on needle from toes towards the heel, and sewn tog mid upper foot afterwards. Cast on 10-11-13-14-15-17 sts on needle size 6 mm / US 10 with Snow (leave approx 50 cm / 20" thread end, and use this to sew slipper tog afterwards). Insert a marker in st 4-4-4-5-5-5 and 1 marker in st 7-8-10-10-11-13. Work stockinette st, AT THE SAME TIME inc 1 st each side of the 2 markers – SEE INCREASING TIP, and repeat the inc on every other row a total of 6 times = 34-35-37-38-39-41 sts. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! Continue until piece measures 13-13-14-16-18-20 cm / 5⅛"-5⅛"-5½"-6¼"-7"-8" and work next row as follows: 8-8-8-10-10-10 garter sts, 18-19-21-18-19-21 stockinette sts, 8-8-8-10-10-10 garter sts. Continue like this until piece measures 31-33-36-40-44-49 cm / 12¼"-13"-14¼"-15¾"-17¼"-19¼". Bind off. ASSEMBLY: Sew thread through outermost sts towards toes and tighten, sew seam mid upper foot inside ½ st to where the garter st beg. Fold slipper double and sew tog mid back, edge to edge, in order to avoid a chunky seam. FELTING: Wash slippers in the washing machine with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40C/104F with normal spin, but without pre-wash. After wash form the slipper to the right size whilst still wet and leave to dry. At subsequent washes, wash slippers at a wool programme. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
