------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP (body): Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker sits between these 4 stitches), 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. DECREASE TIP (armholes): Decrease on the inside of the 4-4-6-6-8-8 ribbed stitches. All decreases are worked from the right side! AFTER THE 4-4-6-6-8-8 RIBBED STITCHES: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. BEFORE THE 4-4-6-6-8-8 RIBBED STITCHES: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the ribbed stitches, knit 2 together. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The back and front pieces are worked separately, back and forth with circular needle and bottom up until the split is finished. The pieces are then joined and worked in the round as far as the armholes. The back and front pieces are then finished separately, back and forth. BACK PIECE: Cast on 91-99-107-121-135-149 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and DROPS Big Merino. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work rib (knit 1, purl 1) over all stitches – NOTE: The first and last stitch on the row are knitted from the right side and purled from the wrong side. Work the rib for 6 cm = 2⅜", finish after a row from the wrong side and lay the piece to one side. FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work as for the back piece. Now join the pieces as described below. BODY: Place the back and front pieces on the same circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 = 182-198-214-242-270-298 stitches. Knit 1 round and decrease 46-50-54-62-70-78 stitches evenly spaced = 136-148-160-180-200-220 stitches. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round and 1 marker after 68-74-80-90-100-110 stitches (sides). Allow the markers to follow your work onwards; they are used when increasing in the sides. Work stockinette stitch in the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 10 cm = 4", increase 1 stitch on each side of both markers – read INCREASE TIP (= 4 stitches increased). Repeat the increase when the piece measures 18-18-19-19-20-20 cm = 7"-7"-7½"-7½"-8"-8" = 144-156-168-188-208-228 stitches. When the piece measures 29-30-31-32-33-33 cm = 11⅜"-11¾"-12¼"-12½"-13"-13", work as follows: * Purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* over the first 9-11-13-15-19-21 stitches, stockinette stitch until there are 8-10-12-14-18-20 stitches left before the second marker, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* over the next 17-21-25-29-37-41 stitches, work stockinette stitch until there are 8-10-12-14-18-20 stitches left on the round, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* over the last 8-10-12-14-18-20 stitches. Continue this pattern. When the piece measures 31-32-33-34-35-35 cm = 12¼"-12½"-13"-13⅜"-13¾"-13¾", work the armholes as follows: Start 4-6-6-8-10-12 stitches before the first marker, bind off 9-13-13-17-21-25 stitches, work 63-65-71-77-83-89 stitches and place them on a thread/extra needle, bind off 9-13-13-17-21-25 stitches and work the last 63-65-71-77-83-89 stitches. The back and front pieces are finished separately. BACK PIECE: = 63-65-71-77-83-89 stitches. Work stockinette stitch back and forth with 4-4-6-6-8-8 ribbed stitches on each side – NOTE: The first and last stitch on the row are knitted from the right side and purled from the wrong side. AT THE SAME TIME, on the next row from the right side, decrease 1 stitch on each side for the armholes – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd row (each row from the right side) a total of 6-7-9-10-12-16 times, then every 4th row (every other row from the right side) 3-3-2-2-1-0 times = 45-45-49-53-57-57 stitches. Continue working stockinette stitch and 4-4-6-6-8-8 ribbed stitches on each side until the piece measures 39-41-42-44-45-47 cm = 15¼"-16⅛"-16½"-17¼"-17¾"-18½". On the next row from the right side increase 8 stitches evenly over the middle 37-37-37-41-41-41 stitches = 53-53-57-61-65-65 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and work rib (purl 1, knit 1) over all stitches – the first and last stitch on the row are knitted from the right side and purled from the wrong side. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛" (the piece measures approx. 42-44-45-47-48-50 cm = 16½"-17¼"-17¾"-18½"-19"-19¾"), bind off for the neck as follows: Work rib over the first 9-9-11-11-13-13 stitches and place them on a thread, bind off the next 35-35-35-39-39-39 stitches, work rib over the last 9-9-11-11-13-13 stitches. Work the straps as described below. STRAP: Work rib back and forth over the 9-9-11-11-13-13 stitches on the needle until the strap measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛". Bind off. The piece measures approx. 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾". Work the other strap in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Place the 63-65-71-77-83-89 stitches from the thread/extra needle back on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Work the front piece and straps in the same way as the back. ASSEMBLY: Sew the straps together, inside the bind-off edge. |
