The instructions for front decrease says 17 times this would leave 43 stitches but pattern says 48 stitches. I have done 12 decreases, should I reduce the decreases on the back to match?

Gauge: 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"] stockinette st on appropriate needle size = Tynn Chenille: 18 sts x 28 rows Cotton Chenille: 13 sts x 24 rows Pelliza: 23 sts x 30 rows Garter Stitch, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows. Buttonhole loops: Crochet with Tynn Chenille (Cotton Chenille): start in the garter st edge on the right front, ch 6 (5), attach the ch sts 2 cm [0.75"] below the starting point with 1 single crochet (sc). Work sc back over the ch sts. Pockets: Cast on 50-53 (37-39) sts with Tynn Chenille (Cotton Chenille) on appropriate needles. Knit 2 rows garter st. Then knit as follows: 5-5 (4-4) sts garter st (= front edge), 43-46 (31-33) sts stockinette st, 2-2 (2-2) sts garter st (= side). When the work measures 5 cm [2"] dec 1 st at the side inside the 2-2 (2-2) edge sts 3-5 (3-4) times every 3-3 (3-4) cm [1.25" - 1.25" (1.25" - 1.5") = 47-48 (34-35) sts. When the work measures 14-19 cm [5.5" - 7.5"] bind off 7-8 (5-6) sts at the side = 40-40 (29-29) sts. Continue with 5-5 (4-4) sts garter st for front edge and stockinette st over the remaining sts. Continue to dec 1 st at the side every other row: 16-13 (8-6) times, then every 4th row: 3-4 (5-6) times = 21-23 (16-17) sts. When the work measures 30-35 cm [11.75" - 13.75"] put sts on a st holder and put the work aside. Knit another pocket, but reverse all shaping. Left Front: Cast on 60-64 (43-46) sts on appropriate needles with Tynn Chenille (Cotton Chenille), knit 4 rows garter st. Change to stockinette st. When the work measures 5 cm [2"] dec 1 st at the side 17-17 (11-11) times every 3-3 (5-5) cm [1.25" - 1.25" (2" - 2")] = 48-52 (36-39) sts. At the same time, when the work measures 31-36 cm [12.25" - 14-⅛"] knit the 16-18 (12-13) sts at the front edge and the pocket sts together as follows: Knit the first 5-5 (4-4) sts garter st from the pocket, then knit the first st from the front and the 6th-6th (5th-5th) st from the pocket together, then the 2nd st from the front and the 7th-7th (6th-6th) st from the pocket together. Continue in this manner until all the sts from the pocket are knit together with sts from the front. Continue in stockinette st, but keep the 5-5 (4-4) sts at the center front in garter st throughout. When the work measures 57-61 cm [22.5" - 24"] bind off for armhole every other row: 3 sts 1-1 (1-1) time, 2 sts 2-3 (1-2) times, 1 st 4-4 (3-3) times = 37-39 (28-29) sts. When the work measures 73-78 cm [28.75" - 30.75"] bind off for the neck every other row: 9-10 (7-8) sts 1 (1) time, 2 sts 2 (2) times, 1 st 4 (2) times. Bind off when the work measures 80-85 cm [31.5" - 33.5"]. Right Front: Cast on and knit like the left, but reverse all shaping. Back: Cast on 124-133 (90-97) sts on appropriate needles with Tynn Chenille (Cotton Chenille), knit 4 rows garter st. Change to stockinette st. When the work measures 5 cm [2"] dec 1 st at each side 17-17 (12-12) times every 3-3 (5-5) cm [1.25" - 1.25" (2" - 2")] = 90-99 (66-73) sts. When the work measures 57-61 cm [22.5" - 24"] bind off for armhole as on the front = 68-73 (50-53) sts. When the work measures 80-85 cm [31.5" - 33.5"]. put the center 28-31 (20-23) sts on a st holder and bind off the remaining sts. Sleeve: Cast on 82-85 sts on appropriate needles with Pelliza. Knit stockinette st. After 7 cm [2.75"] put a marker in the work - measure the work from here. When the work measures 1 cm [3/8"] change to Tynn Chenille (Cotton Chenille) and stockinette st on appropriate needles, decreasing 17-18 (34-36) sts evenly distributed on the first row = 65-67 (48-49) sts. When the work measures 8 cm [3-⅛"] inc 1 st at each side 9-11 (7-8) times every 4.5-3.5 (6-5) cm [1.75" - 1-⅜" (2-⅜" - 2")] = 83-89 (62-65) sts. When the work measures 51-50 cm [20" - 19.75"] bind off at each side for sleeve cap every other row: 3 sts 3-3 (1-1) times, 2 sts 3-3 (1-2) times, 1 sts 3-6 (7-9) times, 2 sts 3-3 (2-1) times, then 3 (2) sts at each side until the work measures 62-63 cm [24-⅜" - 24.75"]. Bind off. Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Fold the 5 sts garter st along the front edge double against the wrong side and sew. Hood: Pick up 40-44 (30-32) sts around the neck on appropriate needles with Tynn Chenille (Cotton Chenille), starting 7 cm [2.75"] from the center front at one side and ending 7 cm [2.75"] from the center front at the other side. Knit stockinette st. After 1 cm [3/8"] inc 28-28 (20-20) sts evenly distributed on the next row. When the hood measures 39-40 cm [15.25" - 15.75"], bind off. Sew the hood together. Pick up approx. 180-184 sts on appropriate needles with Pelliza around the front edge of the hood. Knit 14 cm [5.5"] stockinette st, bind off, fold the edge double against the wrong side and sew it so that the picked up edge is concealed. Fold the Pelliza border against the neck edge. Fold the bottom 7 cm [2.75"] of the sleeve double against the wrong side and sew - now only 1 cm [3/8"] of Pelliza is visible. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the sleeve- and side seams in one. Sew on the pockets on the sides and the lower edge so that the row of garter st furthest down on the body is visible. Crochet 2 or, if you wish, 3 loops onto the edge of the right front, start 5 cm [2"] from the neck edge. Sew on the buttons. |
