Thks so much for trying to answer my question, for some reason I am not understanding the decreases every 4th row.first their is a knit row, then I decrease.then do the purl row,do I skip the next knit row for the decrease, purl the next row and then decrease,I think the simplest way for me to u derstand is how many decreases will I hv to do after decreasing 3 times because I hv 96 stitches, sorry for the questions.thks c maitland,
28.10.2024 - 13:33DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Maitland, work the decreases as follows (1st Size): *knit 1 round with decreases, purl 1 round, knit 1 round without decreases, purl 1 round*, work these 4 rounds (from *to*) a total of 3 times, then work: *knit 1round, purl 1 round*, work these 2 rounds a total of 6 times, you have decrease (3+6 times) 8 sts = 72 sts, so that you have 96-72=24 sts left. Happy knitting!

Hi,a bit confused at the decreases when knitting the hat.the first row after putting in the marker is a knit row,I decrease after each marker.then I purl the next row then what do I do to continue the decreases thanks mrslc maitland
28.10.2024 - 02:18DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Maitland, you first work 1 ridge (= knit 1 round, purl 1 round), then insert markers (whithout working), and decrease first every 4th round (= every other knit round) then every 2nd round (every knit round); so the decreases should be worked when knitting the stitches and not when purling them for the ridges/garter stitch. Happy knitting!

Hi.I am knitting the neck warmer. My question is when I am finished at 8 3/4 long they tell you to do 2 rows of garter stitch on 4mm needles. Then cast off with a bigger needle. Can I switch back to the 5mm size needle. Thks Carol Maitland
01.09.2023 - 22:19DROPS Design answered:
Dear Maitland, you should be using 4.5 needles as the smaller needle so yes, you would change back to the 5mm needle (which is the larger needle). If you are using 4mm needles due to your gauge check if the bind-off edge is not too loose with the 5mm needles; otherwise you may need 4.5 needles. Happy knitting!

Hi I am still confused over this pattern.I have completed the beginning of the hat knit 2,purl 2.I am now working with the right side facing me.Do I flip my work to the inside of the needle so that I am now working with the wrong side facing me.amd the right side is inside the needle.Thks.
18.05.2023 - 14:49DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Maitland, continue working the pattern in the round just as explained (this means you will work from wrong side of piece). When you have finished the whole hat, you will turn piece right side out. Happy knitting!

Hi I am a bit confused with this pattern.the patterns mentions that the blackberry pattern will show on the right side which will be on the inside of the hand and then we reverse it when finished. My question is after I cast on do I turn my stitches so my right side will be on the inside.thks Carol.
08.01.2023 - 19:51DROPS Design answered:
Hi Carol, No, you will work as described in the text, without turning the piece inside out until you have finished. You are then working with the wrong side out and the blackberry pattern on the inside until it is turned. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

Dear Corinne, correct in the 2nd size you will cast on the same number of sts but for the hat you will work rib, ie piece will be somewhat tighten. Happy knitting!

INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN: RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. BLACKBERRY PATTERN: When this pattern is worked in the round, the right side will be on the inside of the piece. In other words, the hat/neck warmer is worked with wrong side on the outside and turned inside-out when it is finished. The pattern is divisible by 4. ROUND 1: * Purl 1, knit 3 *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 2: * Work 3 stitches in the same stitch as follows: Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1, then purl the next 3 stitches together *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 3: * Knit 3, purl 1 *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 4: * Purl 3 together, then work 3 stitches in the next stitch as follows: Knit 1, purl 1, knit 1 *, repeat from *-*. Repeat rounds 1-4. DECREASE TIP (for the hat): Decrease only on knitted rounds. Knit 2 stitches together. ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT: The hat is worked in the round on a short circular needle. Change to double pointed needles when you have decreased enough stitches. Cast on 96-104 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7 and Nepal. Work rib (knit 2/purl 2). When the piece measures 4 cm / 1½" work 2 RIDGES – see description above. Change to short circular needle size 5 mm / US 8. Insert a marker thread at the beginning of the round (= mid back). Work BLACKBERRY PATTERN – see description above. NOTE: Make sure you start each round exactly after the marker thread so that the "blackberries" are diagonally above each other. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When the piece measures 21 cm / 8¼" change to short circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7. Work 1 ridge. Insert 8 marker threads in the piece with 12-13 stitches between each marker thread. From here, you work garter stitch to finished length, AT THE SAME TIME on the next knit round, decrease 1 stitch after each marker thread - read DECREASE TIP (= 8 stitches decreased). Decrease in this way every 4th round a total of 3-4 times and then every 2nd round a total of 6-6 times = 24-24 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 12-12 stitches left on the needle. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, pull together and fasten well. Turn the hat inside out so that the right side is on the outside. The hat measures approx. 29-30 cm / 11½"-11¾". ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER: The neck warmer is worked in the round with circular needle. Cast on 96-104 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7 and Nepal. Work 2 RIDGES – see description above. Change to circular needle size 5 mm / US 8. Work BLACKBERRY PATTERN – see description above. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When the piece measures 20-22 cm / 8"-8¾" change to circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7. Work 2 ridges. Bind off. To prevent a tight bind-off edge, you can use a larger needle or you can make a yarn over which is then bind off, after approx. every 6th stitch. Cut and fasten the strand. Turn the neck warmer inside out so that the right side is on the outside. The neck warmer measures approx. 22-24 cm / 8¾"-9½". |
