How to increase and decrease on a hat
In this DROPS video we show how to increase and decrease on a hat.
The hat we knit in the video is worked back and forth on needle. Cast on the given number of stitches including 1 edge st each side which we knit on all rows.
We have already knitted 12 rows, including ridges and we have placed 7 markers.
We start the video showing from the right side (RS) how we increase at 1st marker with a yo, and then how we decrease at 2nd marker by dec 1 st each side of st with marker like this: start 1 st before st with marker, slip 1 st on cable needle behind piece, slip 1 st (= st with marker), K tog next st and st on cable needle, pass slipped stitch over. Repeat increase with yo at 3rd, 5th and 7th marker and repeat the dec at 4th and 6th marker. K sts on RS between markers, and end row with K 1 edge st. On WS you K 1 edge st each side and P all other sts, all yo’s are P twisted (i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front) to avoid holes.
You must read the pattern to be able to follow. You’ll find patterns using this technique by clicking on the pictures below.
