Gauge: 17 sts x 22 on larger needles in pattern = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"].

Pattern: See chart (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st.

Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows.
Garter st, when knitting in the round: *Rnd 1, knit. Rnd 2, purl.* Repeat from * - *.

Body: Cast on 183 (199-215) sts (including 3 sts at each edge for the zipper-placket; these are not knit into the pattern) on smaller circular needles with black and knit 4 rows garter st. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1 (keep the 3 sts at each side in black), then knit black to finished dimensions. When the work measures 36 (37-39) cm [14-1/8" (14.5" - 15.25")] knit the next row as follows: 45 (49-53) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 85 (93-101) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 45 (49-53) sts for the front. Knit the rest of each part separately.

Front: = 45 (49-53) sts. Bind off for armholes each side every other row: 3 sts 1 (2-3) times, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 3 times = 35 (36-37) sts. When the work measures 48 (49-51) cm [18-7/8" (19.25" - 20")] bind off for the neck every other row: 8 (9-9) sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 times. Bind off when the work measures 58 (60-62) cm [22-7/8" (23-5/8" - 24-3/8")].

Back: = 85 (93-101) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 65 (67-69) sts. When the work measures 56 (58-60) cm [22" (22-7/8" - 23-5/8")] bind off the center 25 (27-27) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 58 (60-62) cm [22-7/8" (23-5/8" - 24-3/8")].

Sleeves: Cast on 36 (40-40) sts on smaller double pointed needles with black; join and knit 4 rows garter st. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 2; after Pattern 2 knit with black to finished dimensions. At the same time, when the work measures 6 cm [2-3/8"], inc 1 st each side of marker 17 times alternately every 4th and 5th row = 70 (74-74) sts. When the work measures 45 (43-43) cm [17.75" (16-7/8" - 16-7/8")] bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off for sleeve caps at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 4 (3-3) times, 1 st 4 (7-9) times, 2 sts 4 (4-3) times, 3 sts 1 time, bind off. The work measures approx. 57 (57-58) cm [22.5" (22.5" - 22-7/8")].

Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 95-105 sts around the neck on smaller needles with black and knit 4 rows garter st, bind off. Sew in the zipper - cut off any excess zipper length at the top, and then fold the uppermost cm [3/8"] double against the wrong side and sew down. Sew in the sleeves.

Debbie Monico 27.07.2018 - 11:20:

Hi all. Just a quick question. Does the needle size of 4 and 5 refer to 4mm and 5mm circular needles and 4mm and 5mm double pointed needles? I ask, as I have old needles that have these numbers on them and they are definitely not 4mm and 5mm in size! Ta.

DROPS Design 27.07.2018 kl. 15:27:

Dear Mrs Monico, correct, the size of the needle is given in the English pattern in mm. Happy knitting!

Catherine 02.09.2016 - 16:57:

Too bad the charts are such a poor quality. The cardigan is gorgeous! Please update the charts with better quality.

DROPS Design 06.09.2016 kl. 08:15:

Dear Catherine, diagrams have now been updated. Happy knitting!

Annette 15.02.2016 - 16:35:

In der Anleitung für den Ärmel steht :"wenn die Arbeit 45cm misst, 4M in der Mitte unten am Ärmel abketten,..." Das verstehe ich leider nicht. Wo ist die Mitte unten am Ärmel? Vielen Dank für Ihre Hilfe A.Poggel

DROPS Design 02.03.2016 kl. 17:40:

DROPS Design 26.09.2013 kl. 08:32:

Liebe Christiane, vielen Dank für den Hinweis. Wir werden das sofort korrigieren.

Kerstin 19.03.2013 - 14:48:

Great Cardi - but very bad chart. Impossible to identify the stitches.
