INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN:

MOSS STITCH:
ROW/ROUND 1: * Knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-*.
ROW/ROUND 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat row/round 2.
----------------------------------------------------------

HAT:
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. Cast on (68) 80-92-96-104 (112-116) stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 and light grey. Work rib (= knit 2 / purl 2) for (2) 2-3-3-3 (4-4) cm = (3/4”) 3/4” - 1 1/8” - 1 1/8” - 1 1/8” (1 1/2”-1 1/2”). Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm and knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease 8 stitches evenly on round = (60) 72-84-88-96 (104-108) stitches. Work stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures (3) 3-4-4-4 (5-5) cm = (1 1/8”) 1 1/8”-1 1/2”-1 1/2”-1 1/2” (2”-2”), change to yellow. Knit 1 round, purl 1 round, then work MOSS STITCH – see description above, until the piece measures approx. (4½) 4½-5½-5½-5½ (6½-6½) cm (1 3/4”) 1 3/4”-2 1/8”-2 1/8”-2 1/8” (2 1/2”-2 1/2”). Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Change to light grey and work stocking stitch. When the piece measures (10) 11-12-13-14 (14-15) cm = (4”) 4 3/8”-4 3/4”-5 1/8”-5 1/2” (5 1/2”-6”), insert (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) markers in the piece with (10) 9-12-11-12-13-12 stitches between each. On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker by knitting the first 2 stitches together after each marker (= (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of (6) 6-6-6-6 (7-7) times = (24) 24-42-40-48 (48-45) stitches.
On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = (12) 12-21-20-24 (24-23) stitches.

SIZES 1/3 - 6/9 -12/18 MONTHS (2 - 3/4) YEARS:
Knit 1 round. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 11-10-12 (12-12) stitches.

ALL SIZES:
Pull a double strand through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The hat measures approx. (14) 15-16-17-18 (19-20) cm = (5 1/2”) 6”-6 1/4”-6 3/4”-7” (7 1/2”-8”).

BOW:
Cast on 12 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 and yellow. Work moss stitch back and forth until the piece measures approx. 8 cm = 3 1/8”. Cast off. Wind a yellow strand 6 times around the middle of the bow to make a band. Fasten the bow to the yellow section on the hat.
----------------------------------------------------------

MITTENS:
The 3 larger sizes are worked with thumbs, the 2 smaller sizes without thumbs.
Cast on 44-48-52 (56-60) stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 and light grey. Knit 1 round. Work rib (= knit 2 /purl 2) for 2-2-3 (4-4) cm = 3/4”-3/4”-1 1/8” (1 1/2”-1 1/2”). Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5. Then knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease 8-10-10 (10-10) stitches evenly on round = 36-38-42 (46-50) stitches. Continue in stocking stitch. When the piece measures 3-3-4 (6-7) cm = 1 1/8”-1 1/8”-1 1/2” (2 3/8”-2 3/4”), change to yellow, knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Then work MOSS STITCH – see description above, until the piece measures approx. 4½-4½ -6 (8-9) cm = 1 3/4”-1 3/4”-2 3/8” (3 1/8”-3 1/2”). Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Change back to light grey and continue in stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!

SIZES 12/18 MONTHS (2 - 3/4) YEARS:
When the piece measures 7 (9-11) cm = 2 3/4” (3 1/2”-4 3/8”) place the 5 (6-6) last stitches on the round on 1 thread for the thumb. Cast on 5 (6-6) new stitches over these stitches on the next round.

ALL SIZES:
When the piece measures 8-11-13 (14-15) cm = 3 1/8”-4 3/8”-5 1/8” (5 1/2”-6”), decrease 0-2-0 (4-2) stitches evenly on round = 36-36-42 (42-48) stitches (there are now approx. 2 cm = 3/4” left to finished length).
Continue with stocking stitch and decrease as follows:
ROUND 1: * Knit 4 stitches, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round = 30-30-35 (35-40) stitches.
ROUND 2: Work stocking stitch.
ROUND 3: * Knit 3 stitches, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round = 24-24-28 (28-32) stitches.
ROUND 4: Work stocking stitch.
ROUND 5: * Knit 2 stitches, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round = 18-18-21 (21-24) stitches.
ROUND 6: Work stocking stitch.
ROUND 7: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 until there is 0-0-1 (1-0) stitch left, knit 0-0-1 (1-0) stitch = 9-9-11 (11-12) stitches.

SIZES 12/18 MONTHS (2 - 3/4) YEARS:
ROUND 8: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 until there is 1 (1-0) stitch left, knit 1 (1-0) stitch = 6 (6-6) stitches.

ALL SIZES:
Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The mitten measures 10-13-15 (16-17) cm = 4”-5 1/8”-6” (6 1/4”-6 3/4”).

THUMB FOR SIZES 12/18 MONTHS (2 - 3/4) YEARS:
Place the stitches from the thread back on double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 and knit up 1 stitch in each stitch cast on over the thumb (= 10 (12 - 12) stitches. Work stocking stitch for approx. 3 (3½ - 4) cm – 1 1/8” (1 1/4”-1 1/2”) and then knit all stitches together 2 and 2 on the next 2 rounds. Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well.
Work 1 more mitten in the same way but with the thumb stitches at the beginning of the round (instead of at the end) in the 3 larger sizes.

BOW:
Cast on 9-10-12 (14-14) stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm / US 2.5 and yellow. Work moss stitch until the piece measures approx. 6-6-7 (8-8) cm = 2 3/8”- 2 3/8”-2 3/4” (3 1/8”-3 1/8”). Cast off. Wind a yellow strand 6 times around the middle of the bow, to make a band. Fasten the bow to the yellow section on the mitten. Work 1 more bow and fasten in the same way on the other mitten.

Kan man ikke bruge rundpind i stedet for strømpepinde ?

Pauline 03.05.2018 - 03:07:

Hello, I wonder why is the gauge in garter stitch ? I only see ribbing, seed stitch and stocking stitch, so why the garter for gauge ? Thanks!

DROPS Design 03.05.2018 kl. 09:39:

Dear Pauline, you will find for each piece both tension in garter st and stocking st (depending on needle size). Happy knitting!
