------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.1 and A.4). The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. Due to the laced-cable, the stitch count in A.2 and A.3 will vary. Always count stitches without the increased/decreased stitches (i.e., A.2a always 26 stitches and A.2b always 5 stitches). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side (band = 7 stitches): ROW 1 (right side): Knit together the 3rd and 4thh stitch from the edge, make 1 yarn over, work the rest of the front piece as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked when the piece measures 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm. Work the other buttonholes when the piece measures: XS: 13, 22, 31, 40 and 48 cm. S: 13, 22, 31, 40 and 49 cm. M: 14, 23, 32, 41 and 50 cm. L: 15, 24, 33, 42 and 51 cm. XL: 16, 25, 34, 43 and 52 cm. XXL: 14, 22, 30, 38, 46 and 53 cm. XXXL: 14, 22, 30, 38, 46 and 54 cm. (The last buttonhole is worked in the transition between the front piece and the neck). DECREASE TIP-1: All decreases are worked from the right side! BEGINNING OF ROW: Knit 2, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 stitch decreased). END OF ROW: Work until there are 4 stitches left on the row, knit 2 together, knit 2 (1 stitch decreased). KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP-2: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches) slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked back and forth with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately. Pattern is worked on both the front and back pieces. The shoulder seams are sewn. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes for the sleeves, which are begun back and forth with short rows for the sleeve cap, then finished in the round. Stitches are knitted up along the neckline and the neck is worked to finish. BODY: Cast on 203-219-239-255-275-299-319 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Nord and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands) or 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work the first row from the right side as follows: Work BAND WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, then rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work band with I-cord. Work this rib back and forth for 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, with the last row from the right side. Now work and increase 43-39-39-35-47-43-43 stitches on the next row from the wrong side as follows: Work the band as before, purl 40-41-41-42-47-48-48 and increase 11-10-10-9-12-11-11 stitches evenly across these stitches (= 51-51-51-51-59-59-59 stitches), purl 14-20-30-36-36-46-56, purl 81-83-83-85-95-97-97 and increase 21-19-19-17-23-21-21 stitches evenly across these stitches (= 102-102-102-102-118-118-118 stitches), purl 14-20-30-36-36-46-56, purl 40-41-41-42-47-48-48 and increase 11-10-10-9-12-11-11 stitches evenly across these stitches (= 51-51-51-51-59-59-59 stitches), work the band as before = 246-258-278-290-322-342-362 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Now work PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: Work the band as before, * A.1 (= 20-20-20-20-28-28-28 stitches), A.2 (= 31 stitches), work 14-20-30-36-36-46-56 stocking stitches, A.3 (= 31 stitches), A.4 (= 20-20-20-20-28-28-28 stitches) *, work from *-* 1 more time and work the band as before. From the wrong side, work the patterns in reverse order with knit above knit and purl above purl. Remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read explanation above! Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39-40 cm, divide for the armholes as follows (finishing after row-2, row-6 or row-10 in A.2 and A.3. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: On the next row from the right side, work as follows: Work 63-65-69-72-79-84-87 stitches as before (= band + front piece), cast off 4-6-8-8-10-10-14 stitches, work 112-116-124-130-144-154-160 stitches as before (= back piece), cast off 4-6-8-8-10-10-14 stitches, work the last 63-65-69-72-79-84-87 stitches as before (= front piece + band). The front and back pieces are finished separately. BACK PIECE: = 112-116-124-130-144-154-160 stitches. From the wrong side: Continue the pattern back and forth, decreasing 1 stitch on each side - read DECREASE TIP-1, every 2nd row 2-3-5-6-8-12-13 times = 108-110-114-118-128-130-134 stitches. When the piece measures 51-53-55-57-59-61-63 cm, cast off the middle 40-40-40-40-56-56-56 stitches for the neckline (casting off from the right side on row-3, row-7 or row-11 in A.2 and A.3). Finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: From the wrong side. Continue patterns A.2a/A.3a (= 26 stitches), but across patterns A.2.b/A.3b (= 5 stitches) only knit above knit and purl above purl. AT THE SAME TIME cast off on each row from the neckline as follows: 2 stitches 2 times, then 1 stitch 1 time (= 5 stitches cast off) = 29-30-30-32-31-32-34 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. LEFT FRONT PIECE: = 63-65-69-72-79-84-87 stitches. From the wrong side. Continue the pattern and the bands as before AT THE SAME TIME decrease 1 stitch for the armhole - remember DECREASE TIP-1, every 2nd row 2-3-5-6-8-12-13 times = 61-62-64-66-71-72-74 stitches. When the piece measures 48-49-50-51-52-53-54 cm, place the first 27-27-27-27-35-35-35 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the neckline, either on a row-3, row-4, row-7, row-8, row-11 or row-12 in A.2 and A.3 (i.e., when the cable only has 5 stitches). Continue patterns A.2a/A.3a (= 26 stitches), but across patterns A.2.b/A.3b (= 5 stitches) only knit above knit and purl above purl. AT THE SAME TIME, cast off on each row from the neckline as follows: 2 stitches 1 time, 1 stitch 3 times = 29-30-30-32-31-32-34 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work in the same way as the left front piece, remember the BUTTONHOLES. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. SLEEVES: Work from the armhole downwards. Use circular needle size 3.5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Insert 1 marker in the shoulder seam. Start in the middle of the cast-off stitches under the sleeve and knit up 68-74-80-84-90-94-102 stitches, with equal numbers of stitches on both sides of the shoulder-marker. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work stocking stitch with short rows back and forth for the sleeve cap (to give the sleeve a better shape), starting mid-under the sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit to 6 stitches past the shoulder-marker, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl to 6 stitches past the marker, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Knit to 4-4-4-3-3-3-3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl to 4-4-4-3-3-3-3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 12-14-16-18-20-24-26 times (= 6-7-8-9-10-12-13 times each side, with the last row from the wrong side). AFTER THE LAST TURN: After working row-4 for the last time, turn and knit back to mid-under the sleeve. Insert 1 marker-thread here, which is used when decreasing for the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm from the join, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP-2 as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 5-4-3-2½-2-2-1½ cm a total of 8-10-12-14-16-17-20 times = 52-54-56-56-58-60-62 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 45-45-45-45-45-45-45 cm from the shoulder. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 16-16-16-16-16-18-18 stitches evenly on the first round = 68-70-72-72-74-78-80 stitches. When the rib measures 8-8-8-8-9-9-9 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 53-53-53-53-54-54-54 cm from the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3.5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Start from the right side mid-front and knit up 131 to 177 stitches along the neckline, inside 1 stitch (including the 27-27-27-27-35-35-35 stitches on the stitch holders). Knit 1 row from the wrong side with 7 band-stitches on each side as before. Knit 1 row from the right side (bands as before) and adjust the stitch count to 95-97-99-101-117-119-121 stitches (must be divisible by 2 + 1). From the wrong side: Work the band as before, rib (purl 1, knit 1) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and the band as before. Continue this rib back and forth for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. ASSEMBLY-2: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
