After increasing to 168 stitches, I am confused. Initially 14 stitches are for each shoulder., which then gives 70 stitches each for front and back. But when dividing for back and front it says to work 10stitches and put on a thread giving 74 each for front and back. Is this a typo? Size L.

Dear Dawn, the first 2 stitches and the last 2 stitches on each shoulder will be worked to back/front piece, so that from the first 14 sts (first shoulder) at the beginning of the round will be divided as follows: first 2 sts belong to back piece, next 10 sts belong to shoulder and are slipped on a thread, last 2 sts belong to front piece; work the 70 sts front piece and repeat: next 2 sts (first sts 2nd shoulder) belong to the front piece, slip next 10 sts for 2nd shoulder, work next 2 sts to back piece. You have now 74 sts for front piece. Happy knitting!

Is it possible to knit the body in the round, instead of dividing the front and back pieces?

Hej Ellie, nej ikke i denne konstruktion, men du kan sætte forstykke og bagstykke sammen fra under ærmerne og ned :)

DROPS 236-7 |

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP (for saddle shoulders): BEFORE MARKER: BEFORE MARKER: The stitch is twisted towards the right. Use left needle to pick up thread between 2 stitches from round below, pick up thread from behind and knit stitch in front loop. AFTER MARKER: The stitch is twisted towards the left. Use left needle to pick up thread between 2 stitches from round below, pick up thread from front and knit stitch in back loop. DECREASE TIP (sleeves): All decreases are worked from the right side! Decrease 1 stitch inside the 1 edge stitch on each side as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased), work until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased), 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down until the saddle shoulders are finished. Stitches for the shoulders are placed on a thread and the back/front pieces are worked separately back and forth until the yoke and body are finished. The sleeves are worked back and forth with circular needle. NECK: Cast on 66-72-72-78-78-90 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Work rib (knit 3, purl 3) for 14 cm. Change to circular needle size 6 mm. Knit 1 round and adjust the stitch-number to 64-72-72-80-80-88 stitches. Insert 4 markers as follows: Insert marker-1 after 8-12-12-12-12-16 stitches (approx. half back piece), skip 14-14-14-18-18-18 stitches (shoulder), insert marker-2 here, skip 18-22-22-22-22-26 stitches (front piece), insert marker-3 here, skip 14-14-14-18-18-18 stitches (shoulder), insert marker-4 here. There are 10-10-10-10-10-10 stitches left after the last marker (approx. half back piece). INCREASES FOR SADDLE SHOULDERS: Work stocking stitch in the round and increase as follows: Increase BEFORE markers 1 and 3 and AFTER markers 2 and 4 – read INCREASE TIP. You only increase on the front and back pieces; the number of shoulder stitches remains the same. Increase like this every round a total of 20-20-24-28-32-32 times = 144-152-168-192-208-216 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When all the increases are finished, the piece measures approx. 11-11-13-15-17-17 cm from the neck down. Divide the piece as follows: Work the first 30-34-38-42-46-50 stitches (= half back piece), work the next 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches and place them on a thread (= shoulder), work the next 62-66-74-82-90-94 stitches (= front piece), work the next 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches and place them on a thread (= shoulder), work the last 32-32-36-40-44-44 stitches (= half back piece). Cut the strand and place the stitches for the back piece on a thread. FRONT PIECE: = 62-66-74-82-90-94 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the row; the piece is measured from this marker. Continue back and forth with stocking stitch and cast on 1 stitch at the end of the first 2 rows (= 1 edge stitch on each side) = 64-68-76-84-92-96 stitches. The edge stitches are worked in GARTER STITCH – read description above. When the piece measures 13-14-15-15-16-17 cm from the marker, cast on 4-5-5-5-5-6 stitches at the end of the next 2 rows for the armholes = 72-78-86-94-102-108 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. Work until the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm, measured from the highest point on the shoulder. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 14-20-18-22-20-20 stitches evenly spaced = 86-98-104-116-122-128 stitches. Work rib from the wrong side as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit 3, purl 3 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 3 cm. Cast off. The jumper measures approx. 55-57-59-61-63-65 cm from the shoulder down. BACK PIECE: Work in the same way as the front piece. SLEEVES: The sleeves are worked back and forth from the shoulder. Insert a marker in the middle of the shoulder stitches. The sleeve is measured from this marker. Start with 1 strand of each quality and circular needle size 6 mm. Knit up stitches, inside the 1 edge stitch, as follows: Start in one ‘corner’ of the armhole and knit up 23-23-23-23-27-27 stitches as far as the shoulder stitches, work the 10-10-10-14-14-14 shoulder stitches, knit up 23-23-23-23-27-27 stitches down the other side of the armhole to the other ‘corner’ = 56-56-56-60-68-68 stitches. Work stocking stitch and short rows back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work stocking stitch as far as the shoulder stitches, work the 10-10-10-14-14-14 shoulder stitches and 2 stocking stitches, turn, tighten the strand to avoid a hole. ROW 2: Work 14-14-14-18-18-18 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 3: Work 16-16-16-20-20-20 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. ROW 4: Work 18-18-18-22-22-22 stitches, turn, tighten the strand. Continue back and forth, working 2 more stitches on each row. When there is 1 stitch left on each side the short rows are finished. The sleeve cap measures approx. 12-12-12-12-14-14 cm. Remove the marker and place it in the middle of the stitches. The sleeve is measured from here. Work stocking stitch back and forth with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. When the sleeve measures 7-7-7-7-7-8 cm from the marker, decrease 1 stitch on each side – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 5-5-5-4-2-2 cm a total of 6-6-6-7-10-10 times = 44-44-44-46-48-48 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-37-36-35-32-32 cm. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 6-6-6-4-8-8 stitches evenly spaced = 50-50-50-50-56-56 stitches. Work rib as follows from the wrong side: 1 stitch in garter stitch, * knit 3, purl 3 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 3 cm. Cast off. The sleeve measures approx.40-40-39-38-35-35 cm. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the sleeve seams, inside the 1 edge stitch, bottom up then sew the top 3-3-3-3-3-4 cm of the sleeve to the 4-5-5-5-5-6 stitches cast on for the armholes. Sew the side seams. |
