------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. The diagram shows the pattern from the right side. As stitches are increased for raglan, work the new stitches on the sleeves into the pattern as shown in A.1 (i.e., they are worked in stocking stitch until there is room for a full repeat of the lace pattern). NOTE: When the sleeve increases change from every 2nd round to every 4th round, the pattern will no longer follow the diagram. Make sure the lace pattern continues correctly onwards. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch before/after the 4 marker-stitches in each transition between body and sleeves (these are called raglan-stitches in the text and are worked in stocking stitch). Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row/round. FROM WRONG SIDE: BEFORE THE RAGLAN-STITCH: Purl the back loop. No hole. AFTER THE RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn-over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert left needle through the back when replacing it). Purl the front loop. No hole. FROM RIGHT SIDE: BEFORE THE RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn-over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop. No hole. FROM RIGHT SIDE: AFTER THE RAGLAN-STITCH: Knit the back loop. No hole. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked over twisted on the next row to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. Cast on stitches for the neck and work back and forth, AT THE SAME TIME cast on stitches for the neckline towards mid-front. When all the neck stitches are cast on, continue in the round, top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle, while the sleeves wait. The body is divided for the split in each side and the front and back pieces finished separately, back and forth. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck worked in the round to finish. The neck is folded double to the inside and fastened down. NECKLINE: Cast on 62-62-64-70-70-74 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Insert 4 markers and 1 marker-thread, without working the stitches, as follows; the markers are used when increasing for raglan, the marker-thread marks mid-back: Count 1 stitch (belongs to right front piece), insert marker-1 in the next stitch, count 15-15-15-17-17-17 stitches (sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 13-13-14-15-15-17 stitches (half back piece), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, count 13-13-14-15-15-17 stitches (half back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 15-15-15-17-17-17 stitches (sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There is 1 stitch left after the last marker (belongs to left front piece). INFORMATION BEFORE CONTINUING: You now work back and forth – AT THE SAME TIME as casting on stitches for the neckline and increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the 4 raglan-stitches – read description above. Work pattern as follows: Stocking stitch on the front and back pieces (between markers 2 and 3 and markers 4 and 1), work PATTERN on the sleeves – read description above (diagram A.1 is worked between markers 1 and 2 and markers 3 and 4). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION. WORKING BACK AND FORTH: ROW 1 (right side): Work stocking stitch and diagram A.1 as described above, increase for RAGLAN on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches), cast on 2 stitches at end of row for the neckline = 72-72-74-80-80-84 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl (remember to work the yarn overs from increases as described under RAGLAN above), cast on 2 stitches at end of row for the neckline = 74-74-76-82-82-86 stitches. ROW 3 (right side): Work stocking stitch and diagram A.1, increase for raglan on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches), cast on 2 stitches at end of row for the neckline = 84-84-86-92-92-96 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl (remember to work the yarn overs from increases as described under RAGLAN above), cast on 2 stitches at end of row for the neckline = 86-86-88-94-94-98 stitches. ROW 5 (right side): Work stocking stitch and diagram A.1, increase for raglan on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches), cast on 16-16-18-20-20-24 stitches at end of row for the neckline = 110-110-114-122-122-130 stitches. You have now increased 3 times for raglan on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches and the NECKLINE is finished. Cut the strands. The round begins mid-back; move stitches from the left needle (as far as the marker-thread) onto right needle. YOKE: Start by the marker-thread and continue in the round with stocking stitch on the front and back pieces and A.1 on the sleeves. Continue increasing for raglan as follows: Increase on each side of the 4 raglan-stitches every 2nd round 10-8-13-24-19-23 more times (a total of 13-11-16-27-22-26 times including those on the neckline) = 190-174-218-314-274-314 stitches. The increases for raglan are now finished in size XL and the yoke measures approx. 25 cm (in XL) measured mid-back. The other sizes are continued as follows. (Size XL go to Divide for body and sleeves below). SIZES S, M, L, XXL and XXXL: Continue increasing for raglan every 2nd round, but every other increase is only on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase on the front and back pieces every 2nd round and on the sleeves every 4th round (alternately 4 and 8 increased stitches). NOTE: When increasing every 4th round on the sleeves, make sure the lace pattern continues neatly onwards. Increase like this 10-14-10-8-6 times (5-7-5-4-3 times on the sleeves). After the last increase there are 250-258-278-322-350 stitches and the yoke measures approx. 21-23-24-27-29 cm measured mid-back. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: = 250-258-278-314-322-350 stitches. Knit the first 38-41-43-48-51-55 stitches (half back piece), place the next 49-47-53-61-59-65 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-12-14-16 stitches (in side under sleeve), knit 76-82-86-96-102-110 (front piece), place the next 49-47-53-61-59-65 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-10-12-12-14-16 stitches (in side under sleeve), knit the last 38-41-43-48-51-55 stitches (half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 168-184-196-216-232-252 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 8-10-12-12-14-16 cast-on stitches under each sleeve; allow the threads to follow your work onwards – they are used when working the split in each side. Work stocking stitch to the first marker-thread, the round starts here. Continue stocking stitch in the round until the body measures 21-21-22-22-22-22 cm from the division. Now divide at each marker-thread for the split and finish each piece separately. FRONT PIECE: = 84-92-98-108-116-126 stitches. Continue back and forth. On the first row (wrong side) begin the rib at the same time as you increase 29-33-35-39-41-45 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 113-125-133-147-157-171 stitches, as follows: Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm, work 2 GARTER STITCHES – read description above, work rib (purl 1, knit 1 – remember the increases) until there are 3 stitches left, purl 1 and 2 garter stitches. Work this rib for 8 cm. Cast off with Italian cast off or with rib. The jumper measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. BACK PIECE: Work in the same way as the front piece. SLEEVES: Place the 49-47-53-61-59-65 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-10-12-12-14-16 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 57-57-65-73-73-81 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-10-12-12-14-16 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and continue A.1 in the round. NOTE: Make sure you continue the pattern correctly from the yoke. The stitches which do not fit into the pattern under the sleeve are worked in stocking stitch. When the sleeve measures 2 cm from the division, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1½ cm a total of 4-3-5-8-6-8 times = 49-51-55-57-61-65 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 36-35-35-34-33-31 cm from the division (There is 8 cm left; try the jumper on and work to desired length before the rib). On the next round, begin the rib at the same time as you increase 9-9-7-7-5-3 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP = 58-60-62-64-66-68 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 8 cm. Cast off with Italian cast off or with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 44-43-43-42-41-39 cm from the division. NECK: Start mid-back with circular needle size 3.5 mm and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Knit up from the right side 92-92-96-104-104-112 stitches around the neck, the stitch count must be divisible by 2, adjusting so the raglan-stitches from the yoke continue as knitted stitches (seen from the right side) and there is an odd number of stitches between each raglan-stitch so the rib fits around the neckline. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 11-11-11-13-13-13 cm. Change to circular needle size 5 mm and cast off with knit. Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
