Diagrams A2, A3 and A5, A6 Where does 2 end and 3 begin ? Is it after the cable stitch? Similarly where does 5 end and 6 begin?
06.07.2023 - 17:57DROPS Design answered:
Dear Marylin, A.2 and A.5 are the whole charts, while A.3 and A.6 are a section of each of them, respectively. So, working A.2 and A.5 would mean to work a whole repeat of the chart, while working A.3 and A.6 would exclude the right part of the chart, so, if we were reading the chart from right to left, A.3 and A.6 would begin in the knit section, and exclude the initial purl section. Happy knitting!

One more question, I forgot to add this on my last question. If the Drops suggested knitting needle sizes are 4.5mm and 3.5mm but I use 4mm for the body, should I use 3.25mm for the ribbing or 3.5mm? Thank you very much for your help.
27.10.2022 - 06:41DROPS Design answered:
Hi Myrna, Would suggest that you use 3 mm needles for the ribbing. Happy knitting!

I am knitting a gauge swatch. 20 stitches x 26 rows is good with 4mm needles for myself. (Just wet blocking the swatch now). However my swatch with pattern A.1 - 20 stitches and 34 rows with 4mm needles is a little larger in width and about 12 cm in height. Any suggestions for me, thank you.
27.10.2022 - 05:07DROPS Design answered:
Hi Myrna, You could decrease the needle size further for A.1 to 3.5 mm. Happy knitting!

13.10.2022 - 14:54DROPS Design answered:
Bonjour Caroline, A.2/A.3 se tricotent ainsi: A.2 = 4 m env, 8 m end, 4 m env (16 m, vous avez bien 4 m env après A.1), vous tricotez ensuite A.3 = 8 m end, 4 m env (= 12 m - vous avez bien 4 m env entre les torsades et 4 m env avant A.4). A.5/A.6 se tricotent ainsi après A.4: A.5 = 4 m env, 8 m end, 4 m env (vous avez bien 4 m env après A.4), puis A.6 = 8 m end, 4 m env (= 12 m - vous avez bien 4 m env entre les torsades A.5 et A.6 et 4 m env avant A.1). En espérant que ceci puisse vous aider. Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. The diagrams show all rows from the right side. INCREASE TIP (sleeves): All increases are worked from the right side! Make 1 yarn over inside each edge stitch on both sides. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. ----------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in sections, back and forth then sewn together. The neck is worked in the round and folded double. BACK PIECE: Cast on 116-124-136-148-160-172 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Work rib back and forth as follows – first row is right side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 5 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 16-14-18-20-20-20 stitches evenly on the row = 100-110-118-128-140-152 stitches. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work pattern A.1 until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue this pattern. When the piece measures 44-45-46-47-48-49 cm, cast off at the beginning of each row for the armholes as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 0-1-2-2-3-4 times, 1 stitch 0-1-1-4-6-8 times on each side = 94-98-102-106-110-114 stitches. Continue the pattern. When the piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm, cast off the middle 38-38-40-40-42-42 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 27-29-30-32-33-36 stitches. Continue pattern A.1 until the piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 116-124-136-148-160-172 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Work rib back and forth as follows – first row is right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 5 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 12-14-10-8-8-8 stitches evenly on the row = 128-138-146-156-168-180 stitches. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Then work pattern as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work pattern A.1 over 11-16-20-25-31-37 stitches, A.2, A.3, A.4, A.5, A.6, work 11-16-20-25-31-37 stitches in A.1, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this pattern. When the piece measures 44-45-46-47-48-49 cm, cast off at the beginning of each row for the armholes as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 0-1-1-2-3-4 times, 1 stitch 0-1-3-4-6-8 times on each side = 122-126-130-134-138-142 stitches. Continue the pattern. When the piece measures 58-60-61-63-64-66 cm, decrease 12 stitches evenly over the knitted stitches in A.4 = 110-114-118-122-126-130 stitches. On the next row from the right side place the middle 32 stitches on a thread for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2-2-3-3-3-4 times = 35-37-38-40-41-43 stitches on the shoulder. When the piece measures 65-67-69-71-73-75 cm, decrease 4 stitches in the knitted sections of each A.2 and A.3 / A.5 and A.6 = 27-29-30-32-33-35 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVES: Cast on 62-62-66-66-70-70 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Work rib back and forth as follows – first row is right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Work this rib for 7 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 row from the right side and decrease 8-6-8-8-10-8 stitches evenly on the row = 54-56-58-58-60-62 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the sleeve measures 10 cm. Increase 1 stitch inside both edge stitches – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 2½-2½-2-1½-1½-1½ cm a total of 15-15-16-19-19-21 times = 84-86-90-96-98-104 stitches. When the sleeve measures 52-51-50-49-48-47 cm, cast off 3 stitches on each side. Cast off for the sleeve cap at the beginning of each row as follows: 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-4 times, 1 stitch 0-1-0-1-0-1 time on each side. Then cast off 2 stitches on each side until the sleeve measures 57 cm in all sizes, cast off 3 stitches on each side, then cast off the remaining stitches. The sleeve measures 58 cm in all sizes. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams inside the cast-off edges. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the sleeve and side seams in one go, inside the 1 edge stitch. NECK: The neck is worked in the round, starting from the right side by one shoulder seam. Use short circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Soft Tweed or DROPS Daisy. Knit up 96 to 108 stitches (including the stitches from the thread in front) – the number of stitches must be divisible by 4. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 11 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important the seam is elastic. |
