Hej!

To get the gauge, I casted on 88 stitches. Can you help me figure out the decreasing math? Thank you!

Hi Celeste, when starting from 88 sts, you will have to decrease 18-20 sts evenly spaced. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g., 100 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g., 8) = 12.5. In this example decrease by knitting together alternately each 11th and 12th stitch and each 12th and 13th stitch. DECREASE TIP-2 (at top): Knit 2 together after each marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round, bottom up. Change from short circular needles to double pointed needles as you decrease. HAT: Cast on 120-124-128 stitches with short circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Alaska. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 13 cm = 5⅛". Knit 1 round and decrease 28 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP-1 = 92-96-100 stitches. Change to short circular needle 4 MM = US 6. Work stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 19 cm 7½" from the cast-on edge, insert 8 markers as follows: Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round and the other 7 as follows: S: Insert each marker with alternately 11 and 12 stitches between. M: Insert each marker with 12 stitches between. L/XL: Insert each marker with alternately 12 and 13 stitches between. On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker – read DECREASE TIP-2 (= 8 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 4 th round a total of 4-4-4 times then on every 2 nd round a total of 3-3-4 times = 36-40-36 stitches. Work 2 rounds where all stitches are knitted together 2 and 2 = 9-10-9 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 29-29-30 cm = 11⅜"-11⅜"-11¾". Fold up the bottom 6 cm = 2⅜". |
