------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. under: DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 96-100-104-108-116-120 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and 2 strands DROPS Kid-Silk. Knit 3 rounds. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and work 2 rounds of rib (knit 1, purl 1). Work stockinette stitch for 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2". The neck measures approx. 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾". The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 33-34-35-36-38-39 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is measured from here. YOKE: Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches, (insert each marker in a stitch, which is called a raglan-stitch, and is worked in stockinette stitch) as follows: Insert marker-1 in the first stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 27-29-31-33-37-39 stitches (= front piece), Insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 19 stitches (= sleeve), Insert marker-4 in the next stitch, there are 27-29-31-33-37-39 34 stitches left after marker-4 (= back piece). Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Work stockinette stitch and increase for RAGLAN – read description above, as follows: ROUND 1: Increase on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2. Knit, remembering to work the yarn-overs as described above. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 3-3-8-9-8-7 times (6-6-16-18-16-14 rounds worked) = 120-124-168-180-180-176 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Now increase for raglan as follows: ROUND 1: Increase on each side of all 4 raglan-stitches (= 8 increased stitches). ROUND 2. Knit. ROUND 3: Increase only on the front and back pieces, i.e., after markers 2 and 4, and before markers 1 and 3 – do not increase on the sleeves (= 4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 11-12-10-11-13-15 times (40-48-40-44-52-60 rounds worked, and you have increased 11-12-10-11-13-15 times on the sleeves and 22-24-20-22-26-30 times on the front and back pieces) = 252-268-288-312-336-356 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished. You have increased a total of 25-27-28-31-34-37 times on the front and back pieces and 14-15-18-20-21-22 times on the sleeves. Continue working without further increases, until the yoke measures 21-23-24-27-29-32 cm = 8¼"-9"-9½"-10⅝"-11⅜"-12½" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Keep the first stitch on the needle (belongs to the back piece), place the next 47-49-55-59-61-63 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches (under the sleeve), knit 79-85-89-97-107-115 (= front piece), place the next 47-49-55-59-61-63 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches (under the sleeve), knit the last 78-84-88-96-106-114 stitches (a total of 79-85-89-97-107-115 stitches on the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 178-194-206-226-250-270 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½" from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 1, purl 1), then knit 4 rounds (= rolled edge). Bind off with circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. The sweater measures approx. 45-47-49-51-53-55 cm = 17¾"-18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝" from the marker mid-front and 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝" from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 47-49-55-59-61-63 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 57-61-69-75-79-83 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stockinette stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 3 cm = 1⅛", decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 10-10-5-3½-3-2½ cm = 4"-4"-2"-1¼"-1⅛"-1" a total of 3-4-7-9-10-11 times = 51-53-55-57-59-61 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 41-39-39-36-34-32 cm = 16⅛"-15¼"-15¼"-14¼"-13⅜"-12½" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 1, purl 1), increasing 1 stitch on the first round = 52-54-56-58-60-62 stitches. Knit 4 rounds (rolled edge). Bind off with double pointed needles size 4.5 MM = US 7. |
