I have the same problem with the A1 increase as the others who have asked for clarification. It really does not make sense. Is there another method of increasing that could be used? Or please do a video. I have read both explanations and neither are helpful.

Bon tricot!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1 (= 2 stitches increased). INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 92 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 8) = 11.5. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately every 11th and 12th stitch. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve so that the holes closes. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from right shoulder back, and work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body down wards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. If 0 is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information until next information. NECK EDGE: Cast on 92-96-98-104-106-112 stitches on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 with 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Switch to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 (cast on on a larger needle to get an elastic cast-on edge). Work 4 rounds in stockinette stitch (= rolling edge), then work 2 rounds rib (= knit 1/purl 1). Then work in stockinette stitch until neck edge measures 4-4-5-5-6-6 cm = 1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜" from cast-on edge. Beginning of round is at right shoulder at the back. Insert 1 marker after the first 31-32-33-35-36-37 stitches on round (= approx. mid front), measures piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8, work 1 round in stockinette stitch while increasing 8-12-18-24-24-23 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP = 100-108-116-128-130-135 stitches. Then work in stockinette stitch. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! When yoke measures 2-3-3-3-4-4 cm =¾"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½" from marker, increase stitches by working PATTERN – read explanation above and work as follows: * Work 1-1-1-1-1-1 stitch in stockinette stitch, A.1, 1-1-1-1-2-2 stitches in stockinette stitch *, work from *-* (= 25-27-29-32-26-27 repetitions in the round on yoke) = 150-162-174-192-182-189 stitches. Continue in stockinette stitch until piece measures 8-9-10-10-9-10 cm = 3⅛"-3½"-4"-4"-3½"-4" from marker. Work next round as follows: * 2-2-2-2-2-2 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.1, 2-2-2-2-3-3 stitches in stockinette stitch *, work from *-* (= 25-27-29-32-26-27 repetitions in the round on yoke) = 200-216-232-256-234-243 stitches. Continue in stockinette stitch until piece measures 14-15-17-17-14-16 cm = 5½"-6"-6¾"-6¾"-5½"-6¼" from marker. Work next round as follows: * 3-3-3-3-3-3 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.1, 3-3-3-3-4-4 stitches in stockinette stitch *, work from *-* (= 25-27-29-32-26-27 repetitions in the round on yoke) = 250-270-290-320-286-297 stitches. Increases in size S, M, L and XL are now done. Continue increase in the 2 largest sizes as explained below. Then continue to work from ALL SIZES. SIZE XXL and XXXL: Continue with stockinette stitch until yoke measures 19-22 cm = 7½"-8¾" from marker. Work next round as follows: * 4-4 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.1, 5-5 stitches in stockinette stitch *, work from *-* the entire round (= 26-27 repetitions in the round on yoke) = 338-351 stitches. ALL SIZES: = 250-270-290-320-338-351 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch. When yoke measures 16-17-19-19-21-23 cm = 6¼"-6¾"-7½"-7½"-8¼"-9" from marker, increase 2-2-2-0-2-5 stitches evenly = 252-272-292-320-340-356 stitches. When yoke measures 20-22-23-24-25-27 cm = 8"-8¾"-9"-9½"-9¾"-10⅝" from marker, divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Slip the first 50-54-58-64-66-66 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 76-82-88-96-104-112 stitches in stockinette stitch (= front piece), slip the next 50-54-58-64-66-66 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), and work in stockinette stitch over the last 76-82-88-96-104-112 stitches (= back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 164-176-192-208-228-248 stitches. Insert 1 marker in one side of piece (= in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches that were cast on under sleeve). Work until marker, round begins here and work in the round. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 47-49-51-53-54-56 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21¼"-22" from marker mid front. Switch to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and work 2 rounds rib (= knit 1/purl 1). Work 3 rounds in stockinette stitch (= rolling edge). Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and loosely bind off. Sweater measures 49-51-53-55-56-58 cm = 19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22"-22¾" from marker mid front and approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 50-54-58-64-66-66 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches cast under sleeve = 56-60-66-72-76-78 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Read SLEEVE TIP and work in stockinette stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2-2-1½-1½-1½-1½ cm =¾"-¾"-½"-½"-½"-½" 5-6-8-10-11-11 times in total = 46-48-50-52-54-56 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 46-44-44-43-44-42 cm = 18"-17¼"-17¼"-17"-17¼"-16½" from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 4 MM = US 6 and work 2 rounds rib (= knit 1/purl 1). Work 3 rounds in stockinette stitch (= rolling edge). Switch to double pointed needles size 5 MM = US 8 and loosely bind off. Sleeve measures approx. 48-46-46-45-46-44 cm = 19"-18"-18"-17¾"-18"-17¼" from division. |
