------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: The bands are always worked with colour Off White (i.e., 1 strand DROPS Fiesta and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk = 2 strands Off White). When colour Off White is not worked, twist strands between bands and stitches of the stripe. To avoid the strand pulling all the stitches, a separate small ball of yarn can be used for the bands on each side. BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (6 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 4 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (6 stitches): Work until there are 6 stitches left on the row, work 4 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. STRIPES: The stripes are worked for 8 rows/rounds as follows: ROWS/ROUNDS 1–6: Work stocking stitch with 1 strand colour Off White DROPS Fiesta and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (2 strands colour Off White). ROW/ROUND 7: Knit with 2 strands colour Rainbow Sprinkles DROPS Fiesta. ROW/ROUND 8: Knit from wrong side (purl when working in the round on the sleeves) with 2 strands colour Rainbow Sprinkles DROPS Fiesta. Repeat ROWS/ROUNDS 1-8 until you reach the the ribbing on both the body and the sleeves. Remember, the bands are always worked with colour Off White. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over from the right side. The yarn overs are worked as follows on the next row: If working a row with colour Rainbow Sprinkles, knit all the yarn overs twisted. If working a row with colour Off White, work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH: Purl through the stitch-loop which lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Purl through the stitch-loop which lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 buttonholes with 7½-8-8-7-7-7½-8 cm between each one. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Always decrease in a stocking stitch section when working stripes. Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down, increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 86-86-86-94-94-106-106 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm, 1 strand colour Off White DROPS Fiesta and 1 strand DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (2 strands). Work as follows from the right side: 6 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 2 and work 6 stitches according to Bands with I-cord. Work this rib back and forth for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Insert 1 marker inside 1 band (= mid-front). The piece is measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 6 mm. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and each marker inserted between 2 knitted stitches (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of these raglan-stitches. Count 19-19-19-19-19-23-23 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 before the next stitch, count 12-12-12-16-16-16-16 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 24-24-24-24-24-28-28 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 12-12-12-16-16-16-16 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 before the next stitch. There are 19-19-19-19-19-23-23 stitches left (= right front piece). Working the bands as before, now increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above, and work STRIPES - read explanations above. Remember the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. Increase for raglan every row from the right side, on each side of the raglan-stitches a total of 17-19-21-22-24-25-27 times = 222-238-254-270-286-306-322 stitches (8 increased stitches on each increase-row). Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Continue working without further increases until the yoke measures 20-22-25-26-28-29-32 cm from the marker mid-front, finishing after a row from the wrong side and with the next row in colour Off White. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When dividing, the raglan-stitches will end up on the front and back pieces. Using colour Off White work 39-41-43-46-48-54-58 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 40-44-48-50-54-54-54 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-10-12-14-14 stitches (= mid-under the sleeve), work 64-68-72-78-82-90-98 stitches (= back piece), place the next 40-44-48-50-54-54-54 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-10-12-14-14 stitches (= mid-under the sleeve), work the last 39-41-43-46-48-54-58 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 154-166-178-190-202-226-242 stitches. Continue the stripes and bands until the piece measures 45-48-50-51-52-54-56 cm from the marker mid-front and with at least 2 rows of colour Off White at the end. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib AT THE SAME TIME increase 32-36-40-40-44-48-52 stitches evenly on the first row (do not increase across the bands) = 186-202-218-230-246-274-294 stitches. Work as follows: Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Continue with colour Off White. Work the band as before, then rib (knit 2, purl 2 – remember to increase) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 2 and work 6 band-stitches as before. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 49-52-54-55-57-59-61 cm from the marker mid-front and 53-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 40-44-48-50-54-54-54 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 6 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-10-10-12-14-14 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 46-52-58-60-66-68-68 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-10-10-12-14-14 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Continue the stripes in the round. AT THE SAME TIME after the first round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 1-2-4-3-5-4-3 times every 0-12-6-9-4-8-8 cm (only 1 decrease in size XS) = 44-48-50-54-56-60-62 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 39-39-37-37-35-34-32 cm from the division, with at least 2 rounds of colour Off White at the end. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Work rib with colour Off White (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 12-12-10-10-12-12-14 stitches evenly on the first round = 56-60-60-64-68-72-76 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 43-43-41-41-40-39-37 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
