How to work knit 2, purl 2 (in the round) – Continental knitting style

In this DROPS video we show you how to work knit 2, purl 2, in the round using the Continental knitting style. This textured pattern is called rib/ribbing and is one of many varieties.


BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
The stitch count needs to be divisible by 4 so that all knitted stitches are above each other and all purled stitches are above each other. We have already worked a few centimeters of the ribbed pattern.

THE VIDEO SHOWS:
ROUND 1: Knit 2, purl 2, to end of round.
ROUND 2: The stitches are worked in the same way as the stitches below = knit above knit and purl above purl.

Repeat ROUND 2 onward.

There are different methods to cast on. In this DROPS video we show one of the most common methods that gives a firm but still elastic edge. It’s called the continental method. The cast on should be firm but not too hard. If you feel it becomes too tight you can use larger needles or cast on around two needles and then pull one needle out afterwards. Remember to use the correct needles when starting your knitting. You must read the pattern to be able to follow.
