Is it possible to knit this just in stockinette? Would it effect the sizing at all? Thank you!

Dear Emma, it would be easier to choose a design worked in stocking stitch - browse all jumpers worked with Eskimo here. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

Can this be knitted on straight needles???
19.06.2015 - 06:23DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Kershaw, we are working here back and forth on circular needle to get enough room for all sts, you can use straight needles, remember to check and keep your tension (your sts will be more tight on needle), sew only 1 shoulder first to work neck edge, then sew 2nd shoulder and neck. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. 1 ridge = K2 rows. GARTER ST (in the round on circular needle): * K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*. 1 ridge = 2 rounds. MEASURING TIP: Because of the weight of the yarn all measurements must be done by holding the piece up otherwise the garment will be too long when worn. INCREASE TIP: Inc 1 st in the side by working 2 sts in the first and last st on needle. ---------------------------------------------------------- BACK PIECE: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Loosely cast on 48-54-58-64-68-74 sts on circular needle size 8 mm / US 11 with Snow. Work in GARTER ST - see explanation above. When piece measures 10 cm / 4", insert 1 marker in each side (marks height of vent). REMEMBER THE GAUGE! When piece 12 cm / 4¾" - READ MEASURING TIP, work stripes in garter st and in stockinette st (with 1 edge st in garter st in each side) as follows: Work 5 cm / 2" in stockinette st, 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm / 2½"-2½"-2½"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾" in garter st, 3 cm / 1" in stockinette st, 3 cm / 1" in garter st, 5 cm / 2" in stockinette st. Continue in garter st. When piece measures 43-44-45-46-47-48 cm / 17"-17¼"-17¾"-18"-18½"-19", bind off 2-3-3-4-5-5 sts at beg of the next two rows for armholes = 44-48-52-56-58-64 sts. Continue in garter st. When piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm / 22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾", bind off the middle 16-16-18-18-18-18 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue to bind off 1 st on next row from neck = 13-15-16-18-19-22 sts remain on the shoulder. Bind off when piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm / 23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½". FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work as back piece. Bind off for armhole as on back piece and continue until piece measures 55-57-58-60-61-63 cm / 21½"-22½"-22¾"-23½"-24"-24¾". Slip the middle 10-10-12-12-12-12 sts on a stitch holder for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then bind off on every row from neck as follows: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times = 13-15-16-18-19-22 sts remain on shoulder. Bind off when piece measures 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm / 23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾"-27½". SLEEVE: Worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 25-26-28-28-29-30 sts on circular needle size 7 mm / US 10.75 with Snow. Work 3 cm / 1" in garter st - see explanation above. Switch to circular needle size 8 mm / US 11 and work in stockinette st. When piece measures 8 cm / 3", inc 1 st in each side - READ INCREASE TIP! Repeat inc every 8-6½-6½-5-4-4 cm / 3⅛"-2½"-2½"-2"-1½"-1½" 5-6-6-7-8-8 more times (= 6-7-7-8-9-9 inc in total) = 37-40-42-44-47-48 sts. When piece measures 52-51-50-48-47-46 cm / 20½"-20"-19¾"-19"-18½"-18", insert 1 marker in each side (marks where to sew in sleeve in body). Continue to work until piece measures 54-53-53-51-51-50 cm / 21¼"-21"-21"-20"-20"-19¾" and loosely bind off. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in body. Marks on sleeve should fit towards the side of body. Sew underarm seams and sides in one. Sew seams in front loop of outermost st but leave approx. 10 cm / 4" for vent in each side at the bottom. COLLAR: Beg mid back and pick up approx. 70 to 80 sts around the neck (includes sts on stitch holder at the front) on circular needle size 7 mm / US 10.75 with Snow. Work in garter st in the round - see explanation above - until collar measures approx. 16-16-17-17-18-18 cm / 6¼"-6¼"-6¾"-6¾"-7"-7". LOOSELY bind off. |
