Measurement tip: Place piece flat for all measurements.

Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows.

Shortened rows: To make the cap wider at the bottom work shortened rows as follows: * work 40-43-46-49 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and work return row, K 60-63-66-69 sts, turn piece and work return row, work 75-78-81-84 sts, turn piece, tighten thread and work return row, K 2 rows on all *, repeat from *-*. (1 repeat = 8 rows at the bottom and 2 rows at the top.)

Worked in garter st from mid front to mid front, and to fit in all sts worked back and forth on circular needle
Loosely cast on 85-88-91-94 sts on circular needle size 7 mm [US10½] with 1 thread of each quality. Work 10 rows garter st on all sts = front band. Remember the knitting gauge!
Continue in garter st with shortened rows – see above. When piece measures 30-35-40-45 cm [11¾”-13¾”-15¾”-17¾”] along bottom edge - see Measurement tip - bind off for armhole on next row worked from bottom edge towards the top as follows: Work 15-17-19-21 sts, bind off the next 20 sts, work remaining sts on row. On return row cast on 20 new sts over the 20 bind off sts.
Continue in garter st with shortened rows until piece measures 100-115-130-145 cm [39 3/8”-45¼”-51”-57”] along bottom edge (= approx 25-29-33-36 cm [9 ¾”-11 3/8”-13”-14 ¼”] at the top). Insert a Marking Thread (MT) in piece = mid back, and now measure piece from here!
Continue as before. When piece measures 70-80-90-100 cm [27½”-31½”-35½”-39 3/8”] along bottom edge from MT mid back bind off for armhole as described for the other side. When piece measures 96-111-126-141 cm [37¾”-43¾”-49½”-55 3/8”] from MT mid back, discontinue the shortened rows and work front band on all sts as follows: 2 rows garter st on all sts, on next row bind off for 5 buttonholes: work 24-27-30-33 sts, bind off 2 sts, * work 12 sts, bind off 2 sts *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times, work remaining 3 sts. On return row cast on 2 new sts over bind off sts. Now work 6 rows garter st on all sts and bind off loosely.

Armhole border: Work a border along both armholes. Pick up sts in the cast on row of the first armhole, and pick up sts in the bind off row on the other armhole.
Pick up 28 sts along armhole on needle size 4 mm [US 6] with 2 threads Fabel. K 1 row from WS, at the same time inc evenly to 36 sts. Continue in rib, K2/P2 with 1 garter st each side until border measures 4 cm [1½”] and bind off in rib. Sew border to the sides. Repeat along the other opening.

Neckline: Pick up 1 st in approx every other row on needle size 4 mm [US 6] with 2 threads Fabel at the top of cape. K 1 row, at the same time inc evenly to 92-100-108-116 sts. Continue in rib, K2/P2, with 5 garter sts each side towards mid front. At the same time after 4 cm [1½’’] bind off for 1 buttonhole in line with the others on front band – bind off 3rd and 4th st from mid front and cast on 2 new sts on return row. When neckline measures 7 cm [2 3/4’’] inc all P2 to P3. When rib measures 15 cm [6’’], K 2 rows on all sts and bind off. Fold neckline towards RS when wearing cape.

Assembly: Sew on buttons.
