------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A4. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side: ROW 1 (right side): Knit together 4th and 5th stitch from the edge, make 1 yarn over, work the rest of the front piece as before. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked when the piece measures 4 cm. Work the other buttonholes when the piece measures: XS: 12-20-28-36 and 45 cm. S: 12-20-29-38 and 47 cm. M: 13-22-31-40 and 49 cm. L: 11-19-27-35-43 and 51 cm. XL: 12-20-28-36-44 and 52 cm. XXL: 12-20-28-36-45 and 56 cm. XXXL: 13-22-31-40-49 and 58 cm. (the last buttonhole is worked on the neck). BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (7 stitches): Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked back and forth bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes and neckline and the sleeve-edges and neck are worked to finish BODY: Cast on 199-211-229-241-263-285-307 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Alaska or DROPS Big Merino. Work the first row as follows from the right side: BAND WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left on the row, knit 1 and work BAND WITH I-CORD. Continue this rib back and forth for 3 to 3 ½ cm finishing after a row from the wrong side. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. The stitch count is now adjusted and pattern is worked as follows: Work the band as before, work A.1, increasing 1 stitch so you now have 8 stitches for the cable (and there is 1 knitted stitch continued from the rib on each side of A.1), work A.2, then A.1 increasing 1 stitch so you have 8 stitches for the cable, work A.2, then A.3 across the next 121-133-151-163-185-207-229 stitches decreasing 12-12-14-14-16-18-20 stitches evenly spaced (you now have 109-121-137-149-169-189-209 stitches in A.3), work A.2, then A.4 increasing 1 stitch so you have 8 stitches for the cable, work A.2, then A.4 increasing 1 stitch so you have 8 stitches for the cable, work the band as before = 191-203-219-231-251-271-291 stitches. Continue this pattern. Remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read explanation above! Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 30-31-32-33-34-35-36 cm divide for the armholes as follows. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: Work 53-56-60-63-68-73-78 stitches (= band + front piece), cast off the next 6 stitches for the armhole, work 73-79-87-93-103-113-123 stitches (= back piece), cast off the next 6 stitches for the armhole, work the last 53-56-60-63-68-73-78 stitches (= front piece + band). The front and back pieces are finished separately. BACK PIECE: = 73-79-87-95-103-115-123 stitches. Continue the pattern back and forth. Cast off for the armholes every 2nd row as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-5-6 times on each side, then 1 stitch 0-1-2-3-4-6-7 times on each side = 65-69-71-75-79-81-85 stitches. When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm, cast off middle 23-23-25-25-27-27-29 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDERS: Continue the pattern. Cast off 1 stitch for the neckline on the 2nd row = 20-22-22-24-25-26-27 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. LEFT FRONT PIECE: = 53-56-60-63-68-73-78 stitches. Continue the band and pattern back and forth. Cast off for the armhole every 2nd row as follows: 2 stitches 2-2-3-3-4-5-6 times and 1 stitch 0-1-2-3-4-6-7 times = 49-51-52-54-56-57-59 shoulder-stitches. SHOULDER: When the piece measures 43-45-47-49-50-52-54 cm, cast off for the neckline every 2nd row as follows: 22-22-23-23-24-24-25 stitches 1 time (including the band-stitches), 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 3 times = 20-22-22-24-25-26-27 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work in the same way as the left front piece. Remember to work the buttonholes. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams. SLEEVE-EDGES: Start from the right side at the bottom of the armhole. Knit up 84-88-92-96-100-104-108 stitches around the armhole with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Alaska. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 to 3 ½ cm. Cast off with rib. NECK: Start from the right side mid-front, with circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each I-cord-stitch (important so the I-cord is continued), then 1 stitch in each of the garter stitches on the band, knit up approx. 77 to 87 stitches along the neckline to the second band (including the stitches on the stitch holder/thread and the stitch count should be divisible by 2 + 1), knit up 1 stitch in each of the 5 garter stitches on the band and 1 stitch in each of the I-cord stitches = approx. 91 to 101 stitches. Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: The band as before, rib (purl 1, knit 1) until there are 8 stitches left, purl 1 and the band as before. Continue this rib for 3 to 3½ cm (remember the last buttonhole). Cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
