------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can be left with a small hole in the transition between the stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 3 (marker-thread sits in the middle stitch), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, top down, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch-count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working top down, increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder. Stitches are cast on for the front neckline, the 2 sections are joined and the front piece is continued back and forth to the correct length. 3. YOKE: Place all the stitches on the same circular needle, work first the front piece, knit up stitches for one sleeve along the side of one front piece, work the back piece, knit up stitches for the second sleeve along the other side of the front piece. The yoke is continued in the round. 4. INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While continuing the yoke, stitches are increased, first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When the increases and the yoke are finished, the yoke is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is finished in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 33-33-35-35-37-37-37 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Lima or DROPS Saga. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 2 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 2, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 2 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 2. Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 12-13-14-15-16-17-18 times (24-26-28-30-32-34-36 rows worked) = 81-85-91-95-101-105-109 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole 24-26-28-30-32-34-36 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Work stocking stitch (first row from the wrong side). When the piece measures 6-7-8-8-8-9-9 cm, increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl without increasing. AFTER ROW 2: Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 times (12-12-12-12-14-14-14 rows worked) = 30-32-34-36-39-41-43 stitches. The increases for the neckline are finished. The piece measures approx. 10-11-12-12-13-14-14 cm from the marker. 2 cm of the neckline-depth will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the right front shoulder along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neck 24-26-28-30-32-34-36 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker measured in the knitting direction. Work stocking stitch (first row from the wrong side). When the piece measures 6-7-8-8-8-9-9 cm, increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 2 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2 - remember INCREASE TIP-1, ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl without increasing. AFTER ROW 2: Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 times (12-12-12-12-14-14-14 rows worked) = 30-32-34-36-39-41-43 stitches. FRONT PIECE: On the next row (right side) join the 2 front shoulders together as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit the first 30-32-34-36-39-41-43 stitches on the right front shoulder, cast on 21-21-23-23-23-23-23 stitches, knit the 30-32-34-36-39-41-43 stitches on the left shoulder = 81-85-91-95-101-105-109 stitches. Continue stocking stitch back and forth until the piece measures 13-13-14-15-15-16-17 cm from the marker, with the last row from the wrong side. Now the front and back pieces are joined and stitches are knitted up for the sleeves. ROW 1 (right side): Knit the first stitch on the front piece (this stitch belongs to the sleeve), insert 1 marker, knit until there is 1 stitch left on the front piece, insert 1 marker, knit the last stitch on the front piece, knit up 27-27-29-31-31-33-35 stitches along the left-hand side of the front piece, knitting up inside the outermost stitch, knit the first stitch on the back piece (belongs to the sleeve), insert 1 marker, knit until there is 1 stitch left on the back piece, insert 1 marker, knit the last stitch on the back piece, knit up 27-27-29-31-31-33-35 stitches along the right-hand side of the front piece, knitting up inside the outermost stitch (= sleeve) = 216-224-240-252-264-276-288 stitches. Knit 1 stitch. The round now begins here in the transition between the right sleeve and the front piece. YOKE: Continue in the round, working pattern and increasing stitches for the sleeves, then subsequently for both the body and sleeves. Read the next 2 sections before continuing. INCREASE FOR SLEEVES: ROUND 1: Knit and increase on each side of each sleeve – remember INCREASE TIP-1, increasing towards the left at the beginning of the sleeve and towards the right at the end of the sleeve; the stitch count on the sleeves increases but remains the same on the front and back pieces. ROUND 2: Knit without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 8-9-10-9-10-8-5 times (16-18-20-18-20-16-10 rounds worked; 45-47-51-51-53-51-47 stitches on each sleeve and 79-83-89-93-99-103-107 stitches on the front and back pieces) = 248-260-280-288-304-308-308 stitches. PATTERN: AT THE SAME TIME, when the yoke measures 5-5-5-5½-5½-6-6 cm from the neckline mid-front, work PATTERN as follows – read explanation above: Work A.1 in the round, continuing to increase as described above. The increased stitches are worked into the pattern. When the sleeve-increases are finished, continue to increase but now on both the body and sleeves (A.1 is continued as before), increasing inside 1 stitch on the front and back pieces so there is 1 stitch between the increases on the body and sleeves (this stitch is knitted). Work as follows: ROUND 1: Knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the front piece, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue A.1 to the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue A.1 until there is 1 stitch left on the back piece before the marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue A.1 to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle (8 increased stitches; 1 increased stitch on each side of 1 knitted stitch in each transition between the body and sleeves). ROUND 2: Continue A.1 without increasing (remember to knit 1 stitch in each transition between the body and sleeves). AFTER ROUND 2: Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 9-10-10-12-13-15-18 times (18-20-20-24-26-30-36 rounds worked: A total of 17-19-20-21-23-23-23 increases in height on the sleeves and 9-10-10-12-13-15-18 increases in height on the front and back pieces. 63-67-71-75-79-81-83 stitches on each sleeve and 97-103-109-117-125-133-143 stitches on the front and back pieces = 320-340-360-384-408-428-452 stitches. The sleeves measure approx. 12-14-14-15-16-16-16 cm. If the piece is folded double at the shoulder, it should measure approx. 19-20-21-23-24-24-25 cm from outermost on the shoulder and down the armhole. If the piece is shorter than this, continue working without further increases to the correct length. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Continue A.1 across the first 97-103-109-117-125-133-143 (= front piece), place the next 63-67-71-75-79-81-83 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 5-7-9-11-13-15-17 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), continue A.1 across the next 97-103-109-117-125-133-143 stitches (= back piece), place the next 63-67-71-75-79-81-83 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 5-7-9-11-13-15-17 stitches (mid-under the sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 204-220-236-256-276-296-320 stitches. Continue A.1 in the round until the piece measures 49-51-53-55-56-58-60 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back, adjusting so you have worked at least 5 cm of stocking stitch after the last stripe of relief-pattern. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1). AT THE SAME TIME increase 44-44-48-52-58-58-64 stitches evenly on the first round = 248-264-284-308-334-354-384 stitches. When the rib measures 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off with rib, or work Italian cast-off. The jumper measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back and 56-58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 63-67-71-75-79-81-83 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 5-7-9-11-13-15-17 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 68-74-80-86-92-96-100 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 5-7-9-11-13-15-17 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Continue A.1 in the round, making sure the pattern continues from the yoke. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 2-2-2-3-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 2-2-2-2-1½-1½-1½ cm, 3-5-7-8-9-10-11 times = 58-60-62-64-68-70-72 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 39-37-37-36-33-33-33 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 14-12-14-16-12-14-16 stitches evenly on the first round = 72-72-76-80-80-84-88 stitches. When the rib measures 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. The sleeve measures approx. 44-42-42-41-39-39-39 cm from the division and 56-56-56-56-55-55-55 cm from the picked-up row on the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3 mm. Start from the right side on one shoulder-line and knit up 92-94-102-102-108-110-110 stitches inside 1 stitch around the neckline. The stitch count should be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (knit 1 and purl 1) for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, making sure you have 1 knitted stitch above the knitted stitch on each shoulder-line. Cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. |
