------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.9. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1 (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 92 stitches), minus bands (e.g. 10 stitches) , and divide the remaining 82 stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 5) = 16.4. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately approx. every 16th and 17th stitch, do not increase over bands. On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 3 stitches remain on row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit the next 2 stitches together, knit last stitch. On next row knit yarn over to make holes. Decrease first buttonhole when piece measures approx. 1½-2 cm. Then decrease the next 5-5-5-6-6-6 approx. 9½-9½-10-9-9-9 cm apart. INCREASE TIP-2 (applies to sides of body): All increases are done from the right side. Work until 2 stitches remain before marker thread, 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker thread is in the middle of these stitches), 1 yarn over. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, top down. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. Work body back and forth on circular needle, top down. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/short circular needle, top down. NECK EDGE: Cast on 92-92-92-98-98-98 stitches (including 5 band stitches in each side towards mid front) on circular needle size 4.5 mm with Paris. Work 1 ridge in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. Knit 1 row from right side and increase 5-5-5-18-18-18 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP-1 = 97-97-97-117-117-117 stitches. Knit 1 row from wrong side (knit yarn overs twisted). Then work yoke as explained below. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 mm. Begin from right side and work according to diagram in the different sizes as follows: SIZE S-M-L: Work 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.1 over the next 10 stitches, A.2 over the next 6 stitches (= front piece), 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), make 1 yarn over, 8 stitches in stocking stitch (= sleeve), make 1 yarn over, 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), A.3 over the next 5 stitches, A.4 over the next 20 stitches, A.2 over the next 6 stitches (= back piece), 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), make 1 yarn over, 8 stitches in stocking stitch (= sleeve), make 1 yarn over, 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), A.3 over the next 5 stitches, A.5 over the next 11 stitches, and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. 8 stitches have been increased on row = 105-105-105 stitches on needle. SIZE XL-XXL-XXXL: Work 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.6 over the next 5 stitches, A.4 over the next 10 stitches, A.2 over the next 6 stitches (= front piece), 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), make 1 yarn over, 8 stitches in stocking stitch (= sleeve), make 1 yarn over, 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), A.3 over the next 5 stitches, A.4 over the next 30 stitches, A.2 over the next 6 stitches (= back piece), 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), make 1 yarn over, 8 stitches in stocking stitch (= sleeve), make 1 yarn over, 2 stitches in stocking stitch (= raglan line), A.3 over the next 5 stitches, A.4 over the next 10 stitches, A.7 over the next 6 stitches, and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. 8 stitches have been increased on row = 125-125-125 stitches on needle. ALL SIZES: Continue this pattern upwards, and decrease for BUTTONHOLES on right band - read explanation above. On front and back piece increase in each side as shown in diagrams, increase on sleeves with 1 yarn over on each side of stitches on sleeve (raglan line always has 2 stitches in stocking stitch). Increase like this on every other row (i.e. every row from right side). NOTE! On rows from wrong side purl the yarn overs to make holes. Work the increased stitches in stocking stitch on the sleeves. On front and back piece work the increased stitches in pattern as shown in diagrams. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When diagrams have been worked 1 time vertically, there are 177-177-177-197-197-197 stitches on needle. Continue pattern the same way upwards, i.e. pattern is repeated as shown in diagrams. Every time 20 rows have been vertically, there is room for 1 repetition more of A.4 on left front piece, 2 repetitions more of A.4 in width on back piece and 1 repetition more of A.4 on right front piece. When increase has been done 22-22-27-27-27-32 times in total, there are 273-273-313-333-333-373 stitches on row, and piece measures approx. 21-21-26-26-26-30 cm from cast-on edge. Work next row as follows from right side: Work 43-43-48-53-53-58 stitches as before (= left front piece), slip the next 56-56-66-66-66-76 stitches on 1 stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-8-12-14 new stitches on needle (= in the side under sleeve), work the next 75-75-85-95-95-105 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 56-56-66-66-66-76 stitches on 1 stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-8-12-14 new stitches on needle (in the side under sleeve), work 43-43-48-53-53-58 stitches as before (= right front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. NOW MEASURE THE PIECE FROM HERE! BODY: = 173-187-197-217-225-249 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in each side, in the middle of the 6-8-8-8-12-14 stitches that were cast on under each sleeve. Move the marker threads upwards when working; they should be used for increase later. Work on row from wrong side as before but work the new stitches in each side in stocking stitch (i.e. purled on this row). Work next row as follows from right side: Work 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work pattern as before until 8 stitches before the stitches in stocking stitch under sleeve, work pattern A.8 over 8 stitches (first row should be row marked with arrow in diagram A.8/A.9), work 6-8-8-8-12-14 stitches in stocking stitch, work pattern A.9 over 7 stitches, continue pattern as before until 8 stitches remain before the stitches in stocking stitch in the side, work A.8 over 8 stitches, work 6-8-8-8-12-14 stitches in stocking stitch, work A.9 over 7 stitches, work pattern as before until 5 stitches remain and work 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue pattern like this vertically. When piece measures 5 cm from division, increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads - read INCREASE TIP-2 = 4 stitches increased. Increase like every 7 cm 4 times in total = 189-193-213-233-241-265 stitches on needle. Work until piece measures approx. 32-34-31-33-35-33 cm from division. Switch to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Work 2 ridges. Switch back to circular needle size 5 mm and cast off by knitting. Jacket measures approx. 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from shoulder and down. SLEEVE: Slip the 56-56-66-66-66-76 stitches from stitch holder in one side of piece on a short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-8-12-14 stitches cast on under sleeve = 62-64-74-74-78-90 stitches. Work 2-2-3-3-4-4 rounds in stocking stitch. Switch to short circular needle or double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Work 2 ridges in the round. Switch back to short circular needle size or double pointed needles size 5 mm, and cast off by knitting. |
