------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern, seen from the right side. Choose diagram for your size. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 125 stitches) minus bands (e.g., 16 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 17) = 6.4. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 6th and 7th stitch. Do not increase on bands. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right front band (when garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row. ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to make a buttonhole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 5-5-5-6-6-6 buttonholes with 8½-9 9-8-8-8½ cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stocking stitch and rib. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth with circular needle, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. The neck is folded to the inside and sewn down. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 111-115-121-125-131-137 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Daisy. Change to circular needle size 3 mm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work next row as follows from the right side: Work 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 and 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib for 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm (= approx. the height of the neck when folded double). At the end of the next 2 rows cast on 7 band-stitches = 125-129-135-139-145-151 stitches. Continue the rib, with 8 stitches worked according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read description above, on each side until the neck measures 11-11-11-13-13-13 cm – finishing after a row from the wrong side. Insert 1 marker inside one band; the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm and work the first row from the right side as follows: Work the band as before, work 109-113-119-123-129-135 stocking stitches AT THE SAME TIME increase 17-25-27-23-25-31 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work the band as before (remember the BUTTONHOLES – read description above) = 142-154-162-162-170-182 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and the bands. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 2-3-3-3½-3½-3½ cm from the marker, increase by working PATTERN – read description above, as follows: A.1: Work the band as before, 3 stocking stitches, work the first row in A.1 30-33-35-35-37-40 times along the yoke, work 3 stocking stitches and band as before = 172-187-197-232-244-262 stitches. Work stocking stitch and the bands for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work the next row from the right side as follows: A.2: Work the band as before, 3 stocking stitches, work the first row in A.2 30-33-35-35-37-40 times along the yoke, work 3 stocking stitches and band as before = 202-220-232-267-281-302 stitches. Work stocking stitch and the bands for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work the next row from the right side as follows: A.3: Work the band as before, 3 stocking stitches, work the first row in A.3 30-33-35-35-37-40 times along the yoke, work 3 stocking stitches and band as before = 232-253-267-302-318-342 stitches. Work stocking stitch and the bands for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work the next row from the right side as follows: A.4: Work the band as before, 3 stocking stitches, work the first row in A.4 30-33-35-35-37-40 times along the yoke, work 3 stocking stitches and band as before = 262-286-302-337-355-382 stitches. Work stocking stitch and the bands for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work the next row from the right side as follows: A.5: Work the band as before, 3 stocking stitches, work the first row in A.5 30-33-35-35-37-40 times along the yoke, work 3 stocking stitches and band as before = 292-319-337-372-392-422 stitches. Work stocking stitch and the bands for 3-3-3-3-3½-3½ cm. Work the next row from the right side as follows: A.6: Work the band as before, 3 stocking stitches, work the first row in A.6 30-33-35-35-37-40 times along the yoke, work 3 stocking stitches and band as before = 322-352-372-407-429-462 stitches. The yoke measures approx. 19-20-20-20-23-23 cm from the marker mid-front. Continue with stocking stitch and the bands until the yoke measures 21-23-23-24-26-28 cm from the marker – AT THE SAME TIME on the first row increase 6-4-8-9-11-14 stitches evenly spaced (do not increase across the bands) = 328-356-380-416-440-476 stitches. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Work 56-61-64-69-74-81 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 60-64-70-78-80-84 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work 96-106-112-122-132-146 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), place the next 60-64-70-78-80-84 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work the last 56-61-64-69-74-81 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 224-244-260-280-304-332 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and the bands as before until the piece measures 45-47-48-49-51-53 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side, start the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 45-45-49-55-61-63 stitches evenly on the row as follows (do not increase across the bands) = 269-289-309-335-365-395 stitches: Change to circular needle size 3 mm, work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 1 and band as before. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off with Italian cast-off or slightly loosely with rib. The jacket measures approx. 51-53-54-56-58-60 cm from the marker mid-front and 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 60-64-70-78-80-84 sleeve-stitches from the thread on one side of the piece on circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 68-72-80-88-92-96 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 3-3-3-3-2-2 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6-5-3½-2½-2½-2 cm a total of 6-7-10-12-13-14 times = 56-58-60-64-66-68 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 39-37-39-37-35-34 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 12 stitches evenly on the first round = 68-70-72-76-78-80 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm, cast off with Italian cast-off or with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 45-43-45-44-42-41 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. Sew together the openings on the neck with small stitches. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
