My question. I'm almost finished with 231-13. I bought 250 grams of Muscat for a size large, but it doesn't look like I'm going to have enough yarn for the two sleeves. I can't figure out how much more yarn I will need and I didn't see that you have a chart for that. Would you have a rough idea? Do you think one 50g ball for each sleeve would be enough?
18.10.2024 - 21:56DROPS Design answered:
Dear Judy, the original piece was designed to be knitted with DROPS Air which is a much lighter yarn than Muskat, it is not a surprise you need more (we do have a yarn concerter for the next time you substitute). The exact amount you need for each sleeve also depends largely on your own kitting gauge, so we cannot tell you just how much yarn will you need for the sleeves, though I suppose one skein for each sleeve should be enough. Happy Knitting!

Don’t understand this : To bind off the sleeve: “all stitches together 2 and 2. Work 3 ridges over all stitches”
12.05.2023 - 11:53DROPS Design answered:
Dear Chandy, on next row from right side, knit 2 together accros the row (you will divide the number of stitches by 2); and now work 3 ridges over remaining stitches, this means knit the next 6 rows. Happy knitting!

Why do we cast off the middle for neck for the BACK pc but for FRONT pc we place middle stitches on a thread. Why the difference?
05.02.2023 - 08:12DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Pang, that way we keep elasticty on neckline on front piece where we need more than on back piece where edge can be somewhat firmer (by casting off stitches). Happy knitting!

I am not able to understand your instruction for making the armhole. It says 4 stitches 0-0-0-1-1-1 time on each side and so on. I am using circular needles . I am unable to go further and am stuck on this step. Please help, thanks Tina
12.11.2022 - 17:45DROPS Design answered:
Dear Tina, if you are working back and forth (even with circular needles), you cast off at the beginning of each row (from the right side and from the wrong side) as many times as explained (1 time is casting-off once on the right side AND the wrong side). If you are working in the round, you need to separate stitches for the back and front and then work back and forth. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern from the right side. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in sections, bottom up, then sewn together. Sleeves are worked back and forth on needle. A double neck is worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: Cast on 102-114-120-132-144-159 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Sky. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – see description above, * knit 1 twisted, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1 twisted and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 4 cm. Knit 1 row from the right side where you decrease 10-10-10-10-10-13 stitches evenly spaced = 92-104-110-122-134-146 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and purl 1 row from the wrong side. Work A.1, with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 30-31-32-33-34-35 cm, cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: 4 stitches 0-0-0-1-1-1 time on each side, 3 stitches 1-1-1-1-2-2 times, 2 stitches 1-3-4-4-5-7 times and 1 stitch 3-4-4-5-5-6 times on each side = 76-78-80-82-84-86 stitches. Continue A.1 – the stitches on each side which do not fit into the pattern are worked in stocking stitch. When the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm, cast off the middle 32-34-36-38-40-42 stitches for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 21-21-21-21-21-21 stitches on the shoulder. Continue A.1 until the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm, cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work in the same way as the back piece until the front measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm. There are 76-78-80-82-84-86 stitches. Place the middle 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches on a thread for the neck and finish each shoulder separately. Then cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 2 times = 21-21-21-21-21-21 stitches on the shoulder. Continue A.1 until the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm, cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVES: Loosely cast on 62-65-68-71-74-77 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Sky. Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then work as follows from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, * knit 1 twisted, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 4 cm. On the next row from the right side, increase by making 1 yarn over after each purled section. On the next row (wrong side), purl all stitches; the yarn overs are purled twisted = 82-86-90-94-98-102 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and continue with stocking stitch. When the sleeve measures 11 cm, cast off for the sleeve cap at the beginning of each row: 3 stitches 1 time on each side, 2 stitches 3 times, then 1 stitch on each side until the sleeve measures 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm. On the next row from the right side knit all stitches together 2 and 2. Work 3 ridges over all stitches, cast off. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the sleeve cap to the body, inside the 3 ridges; these are folded to the inside to support the puff at the top of the sleeve. Sew the sleeve and side seams in one go, inside the 1 edge stitch. NECK: Start from the right side at one shoulder seam. Use short circular needle size 3 mm and knit up 87 to 111 stitches around the neck, including the stitches from the thread (the number of stitches should be divisible by 3). Work rib (= knit 1 twisted, purl 2) for 6 cm. Cast off loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
