---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. ELEVATION: To make the jacket higher in the back of neck when working in the round for round yoke, knit an elevation. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker in the middle of needle (= mid back). Begin from right side and work as before until 10-11-11-12-12-13-13 stitches have been worked past marker, turn - read KNITTING TIP-1 and purl 20-22-22-24-24-26-26 stitches. Turn and knit 30-33-33-36-36-39-39, turn and purl 40-44-44-48-48-52-52. Turn and knit 50-55-55-60-60-65-65, turn and purl 60-66-66-72-72-78-78. Turn and knit the entire row (work edge stitch as before), turn and purl 1 row (work edge stitches as before). Then work yoke as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP-1: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. KNITTING TIP-2: To avoid the knitting tension to tighten when working pattern, it is important not to tighten the strands on back side of piece. Use a larger needle size when working pattern if needed. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Work the entire pattern in stocking stitch. Choose diagram for desired size (applies to A.3). Read the diagrams from right to left when working from right side and from left to right when working from wrong side. INCREASE TIP: To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 109 stitches), minus 11 stitches in each side there are no increases over (= 22 stitches) and divide the remaining 87 stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 14) = 6.2. In this example increase in approx. every 6th stitch (do not increase over the 11 outermost stitches in each side) - increase as follows: This symmetrical increase gives 1 new stitch. Follow point 1 - 4 below: 1. Hold the yarn behind the piece. Pass the first stitch on left needle loosely on to right needle purlwise. 2. Insert left needle behind the slipped stitch and in between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on right needle. 3. Make a yarn over with yarn around right needle and pull yarn over through stitch to get 1 new stitch on right needle. 4. Drop front loop of stitch off left needle and then knit 1 in front part of the other loop of stitch. 1 stitch has been increased. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 4 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker thread is in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band from right side- decrease for 1 buttonhole as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over after 1 knit stitch, knit 2 together (make sure that these 2 stitches are 1 purl stitch and 1 knit stitch in this order when they are knitted together). ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work rib as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for 8-8-8-8-9-9-9 buttonholes evenly when band measures approx. 1½ cm. Place top buttonhole 2 cm from cast-on edge on neck edge, place bottom buttonhole approx. 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm from bottom edge. Place the remaining 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 buttonholes evenly approx. 7½-8-8-8½-7½-7½-8 cm apart. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down with increases for round yoke. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches along the front pieces and work bands back and forth. NECK EDGE: Cast on 109-113-117-121-127-131-135 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm with colour Light Beige in DROPS Merino Extra Fine or colour Light Oak in DROPS Karisma, you can use Italian cast-on. Work next row as follows from right side: 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1), until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue rib until piece measures 3-3-3½-3½-4-4-4½ cm and next row is worked from right side. Insert 1 marker on the inside of 1 stitch in garter stitch in one side of piece (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm and work first row from mid front as follows: Work 1 stitch in garter stitch, 10 stitches in stocking stitch, work 87-91-95-99-105-109-113 stitches in stocking stitch while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 14-18-20-22-24-28-32 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work 10 stitches in stocking stitch and 1 stitch in garter stitch = 123-131-137-143-151-159-167 stitches on needle. Now work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above. When elevation has been worked, continue the yoke as explained below. If you do not want an elevation, continue as explained below. Then work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. Remember to follow the knitting tension! When yoke measures 2½-2½-2½-3-3-4-4 cm from marker, increase 32-36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase over the outermost 11 stitches in each side and always increase from the right side) = 155-167-175-183-193-203-213 stitches. When yoke measures 5-5-5-6-6-7-7 cm from marker, increase 34-34-38-38-40-42-44 stitches evenly = 189-201-213-221-233-245-257 stitches. Continue with in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side until piece measures 6-6-6-7-7-8-8 cm from marker. On next row from the right side work PATTERN – read explanation above, read KNITTING TIP-2 and work as follows: 1 stitch in garter stitch, work A.1 until until 4 stitches remain, work A.2 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue pattern A.1 and A.2 like this and increase as shown in A.1 - increase in addition stitches evenly on every row marked with arrow in A.1 - remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase over the outermost 11 stitches in each side): Arrow-1: Increase 31-33-35-41-43-45-47 stitches evenly = 220-234-248-262-276-290-304 stitches. Then work the pattern as follows (work 1st row from the wrong side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, work A.2 work A.1 31-33-35-37-39-41-43 times in total, work 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue pattern and increase as shown in A.1. After last increase (before arrow-2) there are 282-300-318-336-354-372-390 stitches on needle. Arrow-2: Increase 19-21-23-25-27-29-31 stitches evenly = 301-321-341-361-381-401-421 stitches. Then work pattern as follows: 1 stitch in garter stitch, work A.3 until until 4 stitches remain, work A.4 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue pattern A.3 and A.4 like this and increase stitches evenly on every row marked with arrow in A.3: Arrow-3: Increase 12-20-20-20-24-24-24 stitches evenly = 313-341-361-381-405-425-445 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 12-12-8-8-12-12-8 stitches evenly = 325-353-369-389-417-437-453 stitches. Continue with A.3 and A.4 - repeat the diagrams vertically without increases. When yoke measures 21-22-24-25-25-27-29 cm from marker mid front, divide piece for body and sleeves. Continue A.3 and A.4 on body and sleeves, make sure that the increase in A.3 is done before dividing the piece. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 50-55-57-60-65-70-74 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 97-107-111-117-127-137-145 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), and work the last 50-55-57-60-65-70-74 stitches as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 213-233-249-269-289-317-341 stitches. Continue the pattern from yoke, i.e. work A.3 and A.4 back and forth as before with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. Work until piece measures approx. 50-52-54-56-56-58-60 cm from marker mid front - adjust to finish after 3rd, 13th or 23rd row in A.3/A.4. Work in stocking stitch with colour Light Beige/Light Oak and 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. Work until piece measures 53-55-57-59-59-61-63 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side begin rib while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 26-32-32-38-40-48-50 stitches evenly on row - remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase over edge stitches) = 239-265-281-307-329-365-391 stitches, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 2.5 mm, work 1 stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1 - remember increase) until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. When rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl or use Italian cast-off. Jacket measures 57-59-61-63-64-66-68 cm from marker mid front and approx. 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 72-76-84-92-96-100-104 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 new stitches under sleeve - the round begins at the marker thread and is worked in the round. Continue pattern from yoke over stitches on sleeve. AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every other round 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-7-4½-4½-3½-3½ cm 2-4-6-10-9-11-11 times = 64-64-68-68-72-72-76 stitches on needle. Work pattern until sleeve measures approx. 44-43-42-41-42-40-39 cm from division, adjust to finish after 3rd, 13th or 23rd round in A.2. Then work in stocking stitch with colour Light Beige/Light Oak until sleeve measures 47-46-45-44-45-43-42 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 8-8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches evenly on 1st round = 72-72-76-76-82-82-86 stitches. When rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl or use Italian cast-off. Sleeve measures approx. 51-50-49-48-50-48-47 cm from division. LEFT BAND: Begin from the right side and pick up stitches along the entire left front piece inside 1 stitch in garter stitch on circular needle size 2.5 mm with colour Light Beige/Light Oak, as follows. Pick up approx. 156-160-168-172-176-182-188 stitches (this equals approx. 26 stitches per 10 cm along the edge – number of stitches must be divisible by 2). Work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= purl 1 and knit 1) until 3 stitches remain, purl 1 and 2 stitches in garter stitch. ROW 2 (= right side): 2 stitches in garter stitch, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1), until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Work 1st and 2nd ROW until band measures 3-3-3-3-3½-3½-3½ cm. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. RIGHT BAND: Pick up stitch the same way along right front piece and work as left band but with 2 stitches in garter stitch up towards the neck and 1 stitch in garter stitch toward the bottom edge. When band measures approx. 1½ cm, decrease for 8-8-8-8-9-9-9 BUTTONHOLES evenly – read explanation on BUTTONHOLES above. After buttonholes continue band until same measurements as left band. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
