---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. ELEVATION: To make the jacket higher in the back of neck when working round yoke, you can work an elevation with colour Light Grey as explained below. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. You can also use German Short Rows to turn - read KNITTING TIP-1. Insert 1 marker in the middle stitch on needle (= mid back). Begin from right side and knit 11-12-12-13-14-15-16 stitches past marker, turn, tighten yarn and purl 23-25-25-27-29-31-33 stitches. Turn, tighten yarn and knit 34-37-37-40-43-46-49, turn, tighten yarn and purl 45-49-49-53-57-61-65. Turn, tighten yarn and knit 56-61-61-66-71-76-81, turn, tighten yarn and purl 67-73-73-79-85-91-97. Turn, tighten yarn and knit the rest of row, turn and purl 1 row. Then work yoke as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP-1: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. KNITTING TIP-2: To avoid the knitting tension to tighten when working pattern, it is important not to tighten the strands on back side of piece. Use a larger needle size when working pattern try needed. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. Work the entire pattern in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 117 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 22) = 5.3. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 5th stitch. On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band from right side- decrease for 1 buttonhole as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit/purl 2 together, make 1 yarn over. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work rib as before and knit/purl yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for 8-9-9-9-9-9-9 buttonholes when bands measures 1½ cm, place buttonholes by measuring from the bottom edge of jacket in the different sizes as follows: XS: 5-11-17-23-29-35-41 and 46 cm. S: 5-10-16-21-27-32-38-43 and 48 cm. M: 5-11-16-22-28-33-39-45 and 50 cm. L: 6-11-17-22-28-33-39-45 and 50 cm. XL: 6-12-18-24-30-35-41-46 and 52 cm. XXL: 6-12-18-24-30-36-42-48 and 54 cm. XXXL: 6-13-19-25-31-38-44-50 and 56 cm. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Pick up stitches along front pieces for bands that are worked back and forth. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and work a neck edge back and forth. YOKE: Cast on 117-123-129-135-141-147-153 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with DROPS Flora in colour Light Grey. Purl 1 row from wrong side with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH in each side - read explanation above. Insert a marker at the beginning of row in one side of piece (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. Now work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above. If you do not want an elevation, continue as explained below. Then work PATTERN back and forth: see KNITTING TIP-2 and work as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work A.1 19-20-21-22-23-24-25 times in total along yoke, finish pattern by working first stitch in A.1 so that the pattern is symmetrical (NOTE: Work this stitch without increasing as the diagram starts with 1 yarn over) and work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. When A.1 has been worked there are 269-283-297-311-325-339-353 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Then work pattern with increase rows as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work A.2 until 2 stitches remain on row, finish pattern by working first stitch in A.2 so that the pattern is symmetrical and work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch - AT THE SAME TIME on every row marked with arrow in A.2 increase stitches evenly as explained below - read INCREASE TIP. Arrow-1: Increase 22-24-26-28-30-24-26 stitches evenly = 291-307-323-339-355-363-379 stitches. Continue A.2 and finish with the first stitch in A.2 before edge stitch. Arrow-2: Increase 24-24-32-32-32-32-40 stitches evenly = 315-331-355-371-387-395-419 stitches. Continue A.2 and finish with the first stitch in A.2 before edge stitch. Arrow-3: Increase 24-24-32-32-32-40-40 stitches evenly = 339-355-387-403-419-435-459 stitches. Continue A.2 and finish with the first stitch in A.2 before edge stitch. Then work A.3 as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work A.3 until 2 stitches remain on row, finish pattern by working first stitch in A.3 so that the pattern begins and ends the same way and work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch - AT THE SAME TIME on every row marked with arrow in A.3 increase stitches evenly as explained below - remember INCREASE TIP. Arrow-1: Increase 24-28-36-40-34-48-44 stitches evenly = 363-383-423-443-453-483-503 stitches. Continue A.3 and finish with the first stitch in A.3 before edge stitch. Note: When piece measures 21-22-23-24-28-29-30 cm from the marker mid front, piece should be divided as explained below even if A.3 is not finished. Arrow-2 (only applies to XL, XXL and XXXL): Increase 0-0-0-0-30-30-40 stitches evenly = 363-383-423-443-483-513-543 stitches. Continue A.3 and finish with the first stitch in A.3 before edge stitch. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 21-22-23-23-27-28-29 cm from marker mid front, , divide piece for body and sleeves. If A.3 is not finished vertically before piece measures 21-22-23-23-27-28-29 cm, divide the piece in pattern and continue pattern on body and sleeves after division. If A.3 is finished vertically, continue piece in colour Medium Grey. All increases must be done before piece is divided into body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch as before, work 55-59-64-68-72-79-85 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 70-72-82-84-96-98-100 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 111-119-129-137-145-157-171 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 70-72-82-84-96-98-100 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work the next 55-59-64-68-72-79-85 stitches as before, finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 243-263-283-303-323-353-383 stitches. If the piece was divided in A.3 continue pattern on body as before until it is finished vertically. The pattern fits in the side under sleeve. When the pattern is finished, work in stocking stitch and edge stitches as before with colour Medium Grey until piece measures 41-43-45-45-47-49-51 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side work A.4 while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 0-0-0-0-0-2-0 stitches evenly on 1st row = 243-263-283-303-323-355-383 stitches, work as follows: Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch as before, work A.4 until 2 stitches remain on row, finish with the first stitch in A.4 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch as before. Work back and forth in pattern like this until A.4 has been worked vertically - last row was worked from wrong side and piece measures 46-48-50-50-52-54-56 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side begin rib while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 79-85-95-101-109-113-125 stitches evenly on 1st row = 324-348-380-404-432-468-508 stitches, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 2.5 mm, use colour Medium Grey and work edge stitch as before, work rib (= knit 2 and purl 2 - remember increase) until 3 stitches remain, knit 2 and work edge stitch as before. When rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6-6 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jacket measures 51-53-55-56-58-60-62 cm from marker mid front and approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66-68 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 70-72-82-84-96-98-100 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-12-14-16-18-20 stitches cast on under sleeve with colour Medium Grey - read SLEEVE TIP = 80-84-94-98-112-116-120 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 10-12-12-14-16-18-20 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. If the piece was divided in A.3 continue pattern on sleeve as before – The pattern will not fit in the middle under the sleeve but work pattern so that it continues over pattern from yoke and as far in as possible until mid under sleeve. Once A.3 is finished, continue with colour Medium Grey. AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every other round 2-2-3-4-6-6-6 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 4-4-3-3-2-2-2 cm 6-6-8-9-12-12-12 times = 64-68-72-72-76-80-84 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 34-33-33-33-30-29-28 cm from division. Work A.4 in the round. When A.4 has been worked sleeve measures approx. 39-38-38-38-35-34-33 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm, use colour Light Grey and work rib (= knit 2 and purl 2) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 20-20-24-24-24-24-28 stitches evenly on 1st round = 84-88-96-96-100-104-112 stitches. When rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6-6 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 44-43-43-44-41-40-39 cm from division. LEFT BAND: Use circular needle size 2.5 mm and colour Medium Grey. Begin by picking up 164-168-176-180-184-192-200 stitches from right side along left front piece inside 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Then work back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= purl 2 and knit 2) until 3 stitches remain, purl 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (= right side): Work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= knit 2 and purl 2), until 3 stitches remain, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. When rib measures 3 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. RIGHT BAND: Work as left front piece but when rib measures 1½ cm decrease for 8-9-9-9-9-9-9 BUTTONHOLES evenly - read explanation above. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 2.5 mm and colour Medium Grey. Beginning from right side mid front and work inside 1 stitch follows: Pick up 8 stitches along the band, then pick up 116-122-128-134-140-146-152 stitches along yoke around the neck (i.e. approx. 1 stitch in every stitch from cast-on edge), then pick up 8 stitches along the band = 132-138-144-150-156-162-168 stitches. Work first row from wrong side while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 20-22-20-22-24-26-24 stitches evenly - remember INCREASE TIP = 152-160-164-172-180-188-192 stitches - number of stitches must be divisible by 4, work as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= purl 2 and knit 2) until 3 stitches remain – remember to increase, purl 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue rib (= knit 2 and purl 2) with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side until neck edge measures 4-4-4-4½-4½-5-5 cm. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
