------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. Choose diagram for your size. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 105 stitches), minus the bands (e.g., 16 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 23) = 3.9. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BANDS WITH I-CORD BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band from the right side. ROW 1 (right side): Work until there are 5 stitches left on the row, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before. Knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the-neck is finished. Then work the other 5-5-6-6-6-6 buttonholes with 9-9-8-8-8½-8½ cm between each one. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 104-108-112-116-120-124 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and colour anthracite DROPS Air. ROW 1 (= wrong side): 8 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read description above, purl until there are 8 stitches left, work 8 stitches according to bands with I-cord. ROW 2 (= right side): 8 band-stitches with I-cord, knit until there are 8 stitches left, 8 band-stitches with I-cord. ROW 3 (= wrong side): 8 band-stitches with I-cord, purl until there are 8 stitches left, 8 band-stitches with I-cord. ROW 4 (= right side): Now work a rolled edge as follows: Work the band-stitches as before, knit 4, * twist the stitches on the right needle 360 degrees as follows: lay the strand in front, take the right needle to the back, going under the piece, then up in front so the piece is twisted, knit 4 *, work from *-* until there are 8 stitches left on the row, 8 band-stitches as before. ROW 5 (= wrong side): 8 band-stitches as before, work rib (purl 1, knit 1), until there are 8 stitches left, increase 1 stitch, 8 band-stitches as before = 105-109-113-117-121-125 stitches. ROW 6 (= right side): 8 band-stitches as before, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 1 and 8 band-stitches as before. ROW 7 (= wrong side): 8 band-stitches as before, work rib (purl 1, knit 1) until there are 9 stitches left, purl 1 and 8 band-stitches as before. Repeat ROWS 6 and 7 until the rib measures 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm from the rolled edge – finish after a row from the wrong side. Insert 1 marker inside one band (= mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 mm and work the first row from the right side, starting mid-front, as follows: Work the band as before, work 89-93-97-101-105-109 stocking stitches and increase 23-25-27-29-31-33 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work the band as before (remember the BUTTONHOLES – read description above) = 128-134-140-146-152-158 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and the bands. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 3-4-3-3-5-5 cm from the marker, increase 32-34-38-42-46-48 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP (do not increase across the bands) = 160-168-178-188-198-206 stitches. When the yoke measures 6-8-6½-6½-8½-8½ cm from the marker, increase 33-37-43-49-51-55 stitches evenly spaced = 193-205-221-237-249-261 stitches. On the next row from the right side, work PATTERN as follows – read description above, however working the bands in colour light beige on every row onwards (if the colour light beige is not used in the pattern, twist the strand between the band-stitches and the pattern-stitches to avoid holes – and to avoid carrying the strand across the row, you can use a small ball on each side for the bands): Work the band as before using colour light beige, work A.1, 44-47-51-55-58-61 times on the row, work A.2 and the band as before in colour light beige. Continue this pattern – AT THE SAME TIME on each row with an arrow in A.1 increase stitches as described below (do not increase across the bands): Arrow-1: Increase 36-40-44-48-52-60 stitches evenly spaced = 229-245-265-285-301-321 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 22-24-28-32-34-38 stitches evenly spaced = 251-269-293-317-335-359 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 12-12-12-18-18-24 stitches evenly spaced = 263-281-305-335-353-383 stitches. When A.1 and A.2 are finished in height, the yoke measures approx. 20-22-23-23-25-27 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves. NOTE: If you have not reached the correct length, work A.3 and A.4 on the row to correct length before dividing; however, you should divide before the last pattern-border in A.3 and A.4. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: From the right side, work either the first or next row (if you have worked the pattern on the yoke) in A.3 and A.4, at the same time as dividing as follows: Work 47-51-54-58-61-67 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 45-46-52-59-62-65 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-10-12-12-14-14 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work 79-87-93-101-107-119 stocking stitches (= back piece), place the next 45-46-52-59-62-65 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-10-12-12-14-14 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work the last 47-51-54-58-61-67 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 193-209-225-241-257-281 stitches. Work as follows from the wrong side (the diagrams are read from left to right when working back from the wrong side): Work the band as before, A.4, then A.3, 22-24-26-28-30-33 times and the band as before. Continue this pattern. When A.3 and A.4 are finished in height continue with colour light beige, stocking stitch and the bands as before until the piece measures 46-48-50-50-52-54 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib AT THE SAME TIME as increasing 30-34-34-38-42-46 stitches evenly on the row = 223-243-259-279-299-327 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm, work the band as before, work rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 9 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off. The jacket measures approx. 51-53-55-56-58-60 cm from the marker mid-front and 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 45-46-52-59-62-65 sleeve-stitches from the thread on one side of the piece on short circular needle size 5 mm. Work the first/next round in A.3 (if you have already started A.3 on the yoke), adjusting the stitch number to 45-47-53-59-61-65 stitches at the end of the round and knitting up 1 stitch in each of the 10-10-12-12-14-14 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 55-57-65-71-75-79 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-10-12-12-14-14 new stitches under the sleeve. In addition, insert 1 marker in the middle stitch on the round (mid-top of sleeve). The marker-thread under the sleeve is used when decreasing, the marker on top of the sleeve is used when determining where to start the pattern under the sleeve. You now work pattern AT THE SAME TIME as decreasing under the sleeve. Read the next 2 sections before continuing. PATTERN: Starting at the marker-thread under the sleeve, work A.3 round the sleeve - A.3 will not fit under the sleeve; count out from the middle of the sleeve to determine where to start the pattern. The marker on top of the sleeve should match the arrow in A.3. Work the pattern as far as it will go under the sleeve. When A.3 is finished in height, continue with stocking stitch and colour light beige. DECREASING: When the sleeve measures 2 cm from the division, decrease under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP, decreasing 2 stitches every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1 cm a total of 4-4-7-9-10-11 times = 47-49-51-53-55-57 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 42-40-39-40-38-37 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1), increasing 9-9-9-9-9-9 stitches evenly on the first round = 56-58-60-62-64-66 stitches. When the rib measures 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 47-45-44-46-44-43 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
