Sand Notes cardigan increase tip reads: “Do not increase over the outermost 12 st on each side.”To work out how to increase evenly… count total # st, minus the 12 st each side, divide remaining by # increases to make. So I should have ignored this? And just worked A1 from 8 band st even if increase row? Thank you
05.07.2024 - 19:27DROPS Design answered:
Dear Chirstina, the increase rows are rows that are knitted withouth patterning (only knits from the right side) except for the stitches for the button band. These 8 stitches that are left out from the calculations for the increases done evenly. In other words, you increase in rows that have no patterns, then the next time you knit patterned rows, you knit those patterns between the stitches for the two buttionbands. Happy Knitting!

Pattern 248-32 has an 8-stitch band. But as we knit yoke, we’re instructed not to increase for 12 stitches from each end (8 band +4). When we get to chart A1, do we only follow chart after the 12 st? Just do stockinette st on those 4 st and follow band pattern for the 8?
03.07.2024 - 22:50DROPS Design answered:
Dear Christina, work diagram A.1 over all stitches between both front band stitches, ie work A.1 with 8 sts front band sts as before. Happy knitting!

Thank you for your response but I have started 'cable princess' bonnet and the stitches do not inc that much. Do you have patterns with mistakes?
07.04.2024 - 21:04DROPS Design answered:
Dear Elizabeth, the cable princess bonnet is a different pattern; M.1 means something different there. In that case M.1 is the cable chart, which you can find at the end of the written instructions. So, when it says M.1 it means 1 repeat of the chart. You can see how to read our knitting charts here: https://www.garnstudio.com/lesson.php?id=68&cid=19. If you are making a questions regarding a different pattern from the one you are making the comment on, please indicate the pattern name or number beforehand to avoid confusion. Happy knitting!

Dear Elizabeth, if you are referring M.1 as make one (increase), then please read the INCREASE TIP (for the yoke) at the beginning of the pattern. According to the pattern, increases are done by making a yarnover that is knitted (or purled) twisted in the next row (round). Happy Knitting!

Knitted jacket in DROPS Muskat. The piece is worked top down with double neck, round yoke, lace pattern and I-cord. Sizes S - XXXL.
DROPS 248-32 |
|||||||||||||||||||
------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: START OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise, with yarn in front, knit 1, work 6 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows: Work until there are 8 stitches left on the row, work 6 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to round yoke): Do not increase over the outermost 12 stitches on each side. To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 125 stitches), minus the 12 stitches on each side, then divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 30) = 3.3. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 3rd stitch. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn). Work from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. On the next row (wrong side), knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck. The other 5-5-6-6-6-6 buttonholes are then worked with approx. 8-8-8½-9-8-8 cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between stocking stitch and rib. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both short and long circular needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. After the yoke is finished, divide stitches into body and sleeves. Finish the body top down back and forth with circular needle, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are then worked in the round on needle, top down. The neck is folded double and sewn down. NECK: Cast on 111-115-119-123-127-135 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Muskat. Change to circular needle size 3 mm (casting on with a larger needle makes the cast-on edge elastic). Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Work as follows from the right side: 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1, 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib back and forth for 4 cm. Now cast on 7 stitches at the end of the next 2 rows = 125-129-133-137-141-149 stitches. Continue the rib but with the outermost 8 stitches on each side worked according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read description above. Work until the neck measures 9 cm – finishing after a row from the wrong side The neck is later folded double to approx. 4 cm. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Insert 1 marker inside the band; the yoke is measured from here. Knit 1 row from the right side (bands worked as before) and increase 30-32-36-40-42-44 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP. Remember the BUTTONHOLES on the right band – read description above = 155-161-169-177-183-193 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 8 band stitches on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the yoke measures 3-3-4-4-5-6 cm from the marker, increase 33-36-40-44-47-52 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP = 188-197-209-221-230-245 stitches. Continue working stocking stitch and 8 band stitches on each side until the yoke measures 4-4-5-5-6-7 cm from the marker. Now work PATTERN – read description above, i.e., work the first row from the right side as follows: 8 band stitches as before, work A.1 until there are 9 stitches left, work the first stitch in A.1 so the pattern is symmetrical, then 8 band stitches as before. Continue this pattern. AT THE SAME TIME on each row marked with an arrow in A.1, increase as follows: Arrow-1: Increase 39-40-48-56-57-62 stitches evenly spaced = 227-237-257-277-287-307 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 42-47-51-55-66-70 stitches evenly spaced = 269-284-308-332-353-377 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 44-53-53-61-64-72 stitches evenly spaced = 313-337-361-393-417-449 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 3-7-7-11-11-15 stitches evenly spaced = 316-344-368-404-428-464 stitches. When A.1 is finished, the yoke measures approx. 18-18-19-19-22-23 cm from the marker. Continue with stocking stitch and 8 band stitches on each side until the yoke measures 19-20-22-23-25-27 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves: Work the first 54-59-62-67-72-79 stitches (front piece), place the next 58-62-68-76-78-82 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 (in side under sleeve), work 92-102-108-118-128-142 stocking stitches (back piece), place the next 58-62-68-76-78-82 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-12 (in side under sleeve), work the last 54-59-62-67-72-79 stitches as before (front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here! BODY: = 216-236-252-272-296-324 stitches. Continue back and forth, with stocking stitch and 8 band stitches on each side, for a further 26-27-27-28-28-28 cm. Work 1 row from the right side and increase 43-43-47-53-59-61 stitches evenly spaced (do not increase over the bands) = 259-279-299-325-355-385 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib as follows from the wrong side: 8 band stitches, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 9 stitches left, purl 1 and 8 band stitches. Continue this rib for 4 cm. Cast off. The jacket measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 58-62-68-76-78-82 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 66-70-78-86-90-94 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 3-3-2-2-2-2 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3-3-2-1½-1½-1½ cm a total of 5-6-9-12-13-13 times = 56-58-60-62-64-68 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-42-41-40-39-37 cm from the division (or to desired length. There is 4 cm left). Knit 1 round and increase 12-12-12-14-14-14 stitches evenly spaced = 68-70-72-76-78-82 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm. Cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 47-46-45-44-43-41 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight, and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. Sew together the openings mid-front of neck with small stitches. Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
