Hello, Doing the XXXL size and the numbers do not match up. I have 103 cast on stitches but when dividing for the the raglan the stitch count is 99 . Thank you

Dear Maggie, remember to include the stitches with the markers (= the raglan stitches) inside the stitch count; these are not included when counting for each section, since they divide 2 sections. You have 15 sts for the left front piece and 1 raglan stitch, 21 sts for the sleeve and 1 raglan stitch, 27 back piece sts + 1 raglan stitch, 21 sleeve stitches + 1 raglan stitch and 15 right front piece sts. That is: 16+22+28+22+15 = 103 sts. Happy knitting!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. RAGLAN: All increases are done from right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next row from wrong side work yarn overs as explained below: BEFORE RAGLAN STITCH (= twist yarn over towards the left): Purl yarn over in stitch loop behind the needle - to avoid holes. Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN STITCH (= twist yarn over towards the right): Move yarn over from left needle to right needle purlwise, slip yarn over back on left needle by inserting left needle from behind in yarn over (yarn over is now twisted). Purl yarn over in stitch loop that is in front the needle - to avoid holes. Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP: When increasing stitches evenly in transition for rib, there will be an even increase if you increase where stitches are going to be purled, the stitches in stocking stitch will then continue nicely over into rib. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 4 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker thread is in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band from right side- decrease for 1 buttonhole as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over after 1 knitted stitch, knit 2 stitches together (these 2 stitches are 1 purl and 1 knit in this order on the left needle when worked together). ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work rib as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for 7-7-7-7-8-8-8 buttonholes evenly when band measures approx. 1½ cm. Place top buttonhole approx. 2 to 3 cm from cast-on edge on neck edge, place bottom buttonhole approx. 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm from bottom edge. Place the remaining 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 buttonholes evenly approx. 7½-7½-8-8½-7½-7½-8 cm apart. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front and work top down with increases for raglan. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches along the front pieces and work bands back and forth. NECK EDGE: Cast on 81-81-87-89-93-99-103 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with DROPS Air or DROPS Nepal. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work next row as follows from right side: 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1), until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue rib until piece measures 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm and next row is worked from right side. Insert 1 marker on the inside of 1 stitch in garter stitch in one side of piece (= mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Continue with circular needle size 5 mm. Insert 4 markers in piece without working the stitches, insert markers in a stitch, these stitches are called raglan stitches and increase is done for raglan on each side of raglan stitches. Count 11-11-13-13-13-15-15 stitches (= front piece), insert 1st marker in next stitch, count 17-17-17-17-19-19-21 stitches (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker in next stitch, count 21-21-23-25-25-27-27 stitches (= back piece), insert 3rd marker in next stitch, count 17-17-17-17-19-19-21 stitches (= sleeve), insert 4th marker in next stitch. 11-11-13-13-13-15-15 stitches remain on row for right front piece. Work in stocking stitch back and forth with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side and increase for RAGLAN on each side of raglan stitches - read explanation above for increase method and work as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side and increase for raglan on each side of raglan stitches (= 8 stitches increased). ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side (remember to work yarn overs twisted to separate sides as explained in RAGLAN). Work 1st and 2nd ROW 7-7-8-12-17-17-13 times in total (= 14-14-16-24-34-34-26 rows worked) = 137-137-151-185-229-235-207 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Then work and increase for raglan as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side as before and increase for raglan on each side of raglan stitches (= 8 stitches increased). ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side (work yarn overs as before). ROW 3 (= right side): Work stocking with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side and increase for raglan on front pieces and back piece, i.e. increase BEFORE 1st and 3rd marker and AFTER 2nd and 4th marker - do not increase stitches on sleeves (= 4 stitches increased). ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side (work yarn overs as before). Work 1st to 4th ROW 8-9-9-8-6-7-11 times (= 32-36-36-32-24-28-44 rows worked = 8-9-9-8-6-7-11 increases on sleeves and 16-18-18-16-12-14-22 increases on front pieces/back piece) = 233-245-259-281-301-319-339 stitches on needle. All increases for raglan are now done; there are 15-16-17-20-23-24-24 increases on sleeves and 23-25-26-28-29-31-35 increases on front pieces/back piece in total. Piece measures approx. 21-23-24-25-26-28-32 cm from marker mid front. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When dividing the piece for body and sleeves the raglan stitches will be placed somewhat in on front pieces/back piece, i.e. AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work the first 36-39-42-44-47-51-55 stitches in garter stitch and stocking stitch as before (= front piece), slip the next 45-45-47-53-57-59-61 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-22 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 71-77-81-87-93-99-107 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 45-45-47-53-57-59-61 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-22 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), and work the last 36-39-42-44-47-51-55 stitches in stocking stitch and garter stitch as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 163-179-193-207-223-241-261 stitches. Work in stocking stitch back and forth with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side as before until piece measures 43-45-47-49-49-51-53 cm from marker mid front. On next row from right side begin rib while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 28-32-34-36-40-42-46 stitches evenly on 1st row - read INCREASE TIP (do not increase over edge stitches) = 191-211-227-243-263-283-307 stitches, work as follows: Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm, work 1 stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1 - remember increase) until 2 stitches remain, knit 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. When rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – or cast off with Italian cast-off. Jacket measures 47-49-51-53-54-56-58 cm from marker mid front and approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 45-45-47-53-57-59-61 sleeve stitches from one thread on to needle size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-22 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 55-57-61-69-75-79-83 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-22 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every other round 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-3-2½-2½-2-2 cm 2-2-3-6-7-8-9 times = 47-49-51-53-55-57-59 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 41-40-39-39-38-36-33 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 9-9-9-9-9-11-11 stitches evenly on 1st round - remember INCREASE TIP = 56-58-60-62-64-68-70 stitches. When rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – or cast off with Italian cast-off. Sleeve measures approx. 45-44-43-43-43-41-38 cm from division. LEFT BAND: Pick up stitches along entire left front piece on circular needle size 3.5 mm, pick up stitches inside 1 stitch in garter stitch from right side as follows: Pick up approx. 109-113-119-125-127-131-135 stitches (this equals approx. 21 stitches per 10 cm along the edge – number of stitch must be divisible by 2 + 1. Work first row as follows from wrong side: 1 stitch in garter stitch, work rib (= purl 1 and knit 1) until 2 stitches remain on row, purl 1 and 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue rib like this until band measures 3 to 3½ cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – or cast off with Italian cast-off. RIGHT BAND: Pick up stitches the same way along right front piece and work as left band but when band measures approx. 1 to 1½ cm, decrease for 7-7-7-7-8-8-8 BUTTONHOLES evenly – read explanation on BUTTONHOLES above. After buttonholes continue band until same measurements as left band. Cast off the same way as left band. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
