------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, work 5 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work until there are 7 stitches left on the row, work 5 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 7 buttonholes with 6-6½-6½-7-7-7-7½ cm between each one. Adjust so the bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stocking stitch and rib. RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row: BEFORE MARKER: Purl through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. AFTER MARKER: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it the other way round (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Purl through the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread. Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 8 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 8 stitches), make 1 yarn over (2 increased stitches). On the next row purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 109-115-117-121-121-125-133 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Purl 1 row from the wrong side, then knit 1 row from the right side and purl 1 row from the wrong side (= rolled edge). Work the next row as follows from the right side: 7 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 8 stitches left on the row, knit 1 and 7 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib back and forth for 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 cm. Insert 1 marker inside one band; the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches, inserting the markers into a stitch (raglan-stitch). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 19-21-21-21-21-21-23 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 in the next stitch, count 21-21-21-23-23-25-25 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 25-27-29-29-29-29-33 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 21-21-21-23-23-25-25 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There are 19-21-21-21-21-21-23 stitches left for the right front piece. Now increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above, as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit and work the bands as before, Increasing for raglan on each side of all the raglan-stitches (= 8 stitches increased). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl and work the bands as before (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 5-8-5-15-20-18-13 times (10-16-10-30-40-36-26 rows worked) = 149-179-157-241-281-269-237 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Now increase as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit and work the bands as before, Increasing for raglan on each side of all the raglan-stitches (= 8 stitches increased). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl and work the bands as before (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). ROW 3 (right side): Knit and work the bands as before, Increasing for raglan on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4 – do not increase on the sleeves (= 4 stitches increased). ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl and work the bands as before. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 11-10-13-8-7-10-14 times (44-40-52-32-28-40-56 rows worked = 11-10-13-8-7-10-14 increases in height on the sleeves and 22-20-26-16-14-20-28 increases in height on the front and back pieces) = 281-299-313-337-365-389-405 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished. A total of 16-18-18-23-27-28-27 increases in height on the sleeves and 27-28-31-31-34-38-41 increases in height on the front and back pieces. Continue with stocking stitch and the bands as before, without further increases and until the yoke measures 20-21-23-23-25-28-30 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When dividing, the raglan-stitches will be positioned slightly inside the front and back pieces in sizes S, L, XL, XXL and XXXL (in sizes XS and M the yoke is divided at the raglan-stitches). Work 47-51-53-56-60-65-69 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 53-55-57-63-69-71-71 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 81-87-93-99-107-117-125 stocking stitches (= back piece), place the next 53-55-57-63-69-71-71 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 47-51-53-56-60-65-69 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 195-213-227-243-263-287-311 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches cast on under each sleeve; allow these marker-threads to follow your work onwards, they are used when increasing stitches each side. Work back and forth with stocking stitch and the bands as before. When the body measures 4 cm from the division, increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read INCREASE TIP (= 4 increased stitches). Increase like this every 6 cm a total of 3 times = 207-225-239-255-275-299-323 stitches. Work until the piece measures 44-46-48-48-50-51-53 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 18-22-22-24-26-28-30 stitches evenly on the first row = 225-247-261-279-301-327-353 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work the band as before, rib (knit 1, purl 1 – remember the increases) until there are 8 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 cm, cast off with Italian cast off or slightly loosely with rib. The jacket measures approx. 47-49-51-52-54-56-58 cm from the marker mid-front and 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 53-55-57-63-69-71-71 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 3.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 63-67-71-79-87-91-95 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches under the sleeve- the round starts by the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 2-2-2-1-1-1-1 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1-1 cm a total of 5-6-7-10-13-14-15 times = 53-55-57-59-61-63-65 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 45-44-43-43-42-39-37 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 5-5-5-5-5-5-5 stitches evenly on the first round = 58-60-62-64-66-68-70 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-5-5 cm, cast off with Italian cast-off or slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 48-47-46-47-46-44-42 cm from the division. POCKETS: Cast on 33-35-37-39-41-43-45 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work stocking stitch back and forth for 14-15-16-17-18-19-20 cm – with the next row from the right side. Work 3 rows of rib (knit 1, purl 1) with 1 garter stitch on each side. Then work 3 rows of stocking stitch (purl from wrong side, knit from right side = rolled edge). Cast off a little loosely with knit from the right side. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. Place 1 pocket on each front piece, in the transition between the stocking stitch and rib at the bottom and approx. 5-5-6-6-7-8-9 cm from each band. Sew the pockets on with grafting stitch. |
